Insider is the name we are using for a planned paid membership. To be direct: it is not open for purchase yet. No payment is taken on this site, no card details are requested, and nothing you do here creates a billing relationship. What follows is a description of intent, not a product you can buy today.

What is planned

The design for the membership points to an introductory price of $1 per week. That figure is a plan, not an offer, and it may change before launch. Features described below are likewise planned, and we may adjust, delay or drop any of them.

• Ad-light reading. A calmer page with fewer promotional elements.
• Member roundtables. Moderated conversations with our writers and invited guests on the issues behind the headlines.
• Data repositories. Downloadable tables and notes behind selected stories, so you can check our work or build on it.
• Morning Dispatch Plus. An extended version of our planned morning newsletter with extra context and reading picks.

Join the waiting list

This page includes a waiting-list form added by the site. At launch, an address you enter is saved on your own device only, because no live list is connected yet. That means we cannot contact you from it, and clearing your browser data removes it. When a real list is in place, we will update this page and explain how addresses are handled before collecting any for real.

How we will keep news free to read

We believe good information should not sit behind a wall for the people who need it most. Our intention is that core reporting stays free to read, with membership paying for extras and for the work of keeping the lights on. Money from readers is meant to reduce our dependence on advertising, not to buy influence. Members will not get a say in what we cover or how, and we will not tailor stories to please those who pay. • Bookmark stories to your saved shelf.
• Follow the site by RSS if your reader supports it.
• Sign up for the planned Morning Dispatch using the form on that page.
• Write to [email protected] with ideas for what a membership should include.

A note on honesty

We will not announce dates until we are sure of them, and we will not claim readership figures to make the offer sound bigger than it is. When Insider opens, this page will say so clearly, with terms, cancellation steps and refund information stated up front.
