ABC 24 Times is built for people who read on their phones, and native apps for iOS and Android are part of the plan. To be direct about it: the apps are in development and are not yet available. There are no store listings, no beta programs and no release dates to share, and any app you find using our name is not ours.
What we plan to build
We are designing the apps around a few ideas that suit a busy reader:
- Offline Morning Dispatch. Download the morning edition once and read it on a train, a plane or anywhere with a weak signal.
- Audio briefings. Listen to short spoken versions of the day's top stories while you commute or exercise.
- Saved stories. Keep articles for later and find them again quickly.
- Alerts. Optional notifications for developments you choose to follow, with clear controls to keep them infrequent.
These are plans, not promises of a specific feature set. What ships first may differ from this list.
What you can do today
You do not need an app to read ABC 24 Times well. The website is designed to work smoothly on a phone, and a few simple habits can make it feel like one.
- Bookmark the site. Pin it in your browser's favorites for one-tap access.
- Add it to your home screen. Most mobile browsers let you add a shortcut that opens the site like an app icon. Look for "Add to Home Screen" in your browser's share or menu options.
- Save stories. Use the save feature on articles. Saved stories are kept in your browser on your device.
- Subscribe to the newsletter. See The Morning Dispatch for what is planned.
- Use RSS. If you prefer a feed reader, you can follow our feed and read in the app you already use.
Tell us what you would want
If you have views on what a news app should do, or should never do, we would like to hear them. Write to [email protected]. We read every message, though we cannot promise to build every suggestion.
Privacy and apps
When apps arrive, we intend to explain clearly what they collect and why, and to publish those details in our Privacy Policy before launch. Until then, nothing is installed on your device by us, and nothing about how the website handles your data changes.
How we will announce it
When the apps are ready, we will say so on this page and in the newsletter. Until you see that announcement here, please treat any claim of an official ABC 24 Times app with caution.
