Editions: US, Global and Asia

Three planned reading lenses on the same news, and what the launch edition does today.

ABC 24 Times is planned to offer three editions: US, Global and Asia. They are meant as reading lenses, not separate newsrooms. The idea is that the same world looks different depending on where you stand, and a reader should be able to choose the emphasis that suits their day.

What each edition will emphasize

  • US. A focus on developments that shape American readers' lives and work, including policy, technology, markets and local-to-national stories, with plain explanations of how world events connect back home.
  • Global. A broad, internationally balanced mix with no single home market at the center. It gives roughly equal attention to regions and aims to be the default for readers who want the widest view.
  • Asia. An emphasis on stories from and about the region, including trade, technology, climate, culture and the connections between its economies, along with how the rest of the world's news lands there.

In every edition, the standards are the same. Our Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy apply no matter which lens you choose.

What the launch edition does today

To be clear about the present: the launch edition shows the same stories in all three editions. We have not yet built separate front pages, and the editions do not currently change what you see beyond the label. The distinctions above describe where we intend to go once the newsroom is further along.

Setting your preference

This page includes edition buttons added by the site. If you choose one, that preference is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. It is not sent to us, it is not tied to an account, and it will not follow you to another device. You can clear it at any time from the Cookie Preferences page or through your browser settings.

Datelines and newsroom time

You may notice a clock in the site header set to New York time. It is only a clock, a fixed reference for the newsroom's working day. It does not mean every story is reported from New York, and it does not change with your edition. A story's dateline tells you where the reporting is set, and our update stamps tell you when a page was last changed.

Why we are building it this way

News does not arrive evenly. A decision in one capital can matter very differently to a factory manager, a student and a software team on three continents. Editions are our way of acknowledging that, while keeping a shared set of facts underneath. We would rather build the foundation carefully than promise regional depth we cannot yet deliver.

Tell us what you want

If there is an edition you would like to see, or an emphasis we have missed, write to [email protected].

US edition

A lens on North American policy, markets and cities.

Global edition

The default view: every desk, newest first.

Asia edition

A lens on Asian technology, trade and urban life.

Your choice is saved on this device only. In the launch edition all three editions show the same stories.
