Rihanna Pokes the Beyhive, Gets Stung After Implying She Felt Snubbed By the Grammys

The announcement of the 2017 Grammy nominations on Tuesday set the music world—and perhaps most notably, Rihanna’s and Beyoncé’s cult followings, known as the Navy and the Beyhive, respectively—abuzz.

While Beyoncé led the nominations with nine nods for her groundbreaking visual album Lemonade, Rihanna’s fans were disappointed that the “Work” singer had been shut out of the Song of the Year and Album of the Year categories. And for a moment there, according to a few social-media screen grabs, it seemed the artist herself was disappointed, too.

Instagram account the Shade Room noted yesterday that Rihanna had “liked” a post by a fan account that posits the Grammys snubbed her in order to ensure a Beyoncé win in those major categories.

“I think they didn’t want her tied or passing someone else *cough cough* 🍋,” the poster wrote.

The Beyhive sprung into action, literally swarming the comments section of Rihanna’s own recent Instagram posts with the bee and lemon emojis that have come to represent Beyoncé’s following. Then, members of Rihanna’s Navy fired back, similarly flooding Beyoncé’s Instagram account with their signature balloon emoji.

As things began to spiral out of control (and perhaps in an effort to curb an all out war), Rihanna took to the original post she liked to clear things up, according to The Shade Room.

“I never actually read your caption, thought the pic was funny and moved right along!” she wrote in a comment, according to a screen grab. ”Till I seen it pop up over and over! I’m petty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary. I wish y’all would drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture! We don’t need to be putting black women against each other! We deserved to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!”
