Joe Alwyn is hitting the red carpet for the first time since he recently discussed his 2023 breakup with Taylor Swift.
On Thursday, June 20, Alwyn, 33, joined some of his fellow Kinds of Kindness costars including Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Mamoudou Athie and filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos at the movie’s New York City premiere at the Museum of Modern Art.
The actor was dressed in a baby blue blazer on top of a light blue collared shirt, matching tie, dark dress pants and black dress shoes.
Alwyn typically keeps a low profile outside of appearances promoting his films. However, he made the rare move of addressing his six-year long relationship with Swift, 34, while speaking with The Sunday Times Style in an interview published June 15. PEOPLE confirmed the pair broke up in April 2023, around the time Swift first embarked on her Eras Tour.
“In thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize … This isn’t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about …” he told the outlet, when asked if he has listened to Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department.
“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years,” he added in that interview. “That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”
Alwyn portrays three separate characters across Kinds of Kindness, which features the same cast members in three separate storylines across its runtime. The movie marks Alwyn’s second collaboration with Stone, 35, and Lanthimos, 50, after he previously appeared in 2018’s The Favourite.
The new movie is also Alwyn’s first feature film to release since his breakup with Swift. In 2023, he appeared in a short film titled A Very Short Film about Longing; prior to that, he last appeared on the big screen in the 2022 movies Stars at Noon and Catherine Called Birdy.
Kinds of Kindness releases in theaters Friday, June 21.
