After a weeks-long cat-and-mouse chase for their new HC, the Lakers made a decision over it. With the confirmation of the JJ Redick era’s start next season, all that is left is one thing; the unveiling of the HC.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers will announce JJ Redick as the new HC on Monday afternoon at 1:30 pm PT. The unveiling will happen at the Lakers practice facility in El Segundo, California.

Despite some doubts from experts surrounding the appointment, JJ Redick has always been a frontrunner to land the job. The former Magic guard’s appointment will be backed by an aggressive trade strategy by the Lakers that could potentially bring a superstar to LA, ideally someone like Trae Young or his Hawks teammate Dejounte Murray.

But for now, the next point of concern is gathering a formidable coaching crew around Redick and for that, some interesting names are floating around.

Surprising Names Involved as JJ Redick’s Assistant Choice

According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Lakers could look to add Scott Brooks and former head coaching candidate James Borrego to Redick’s coaching staff.

Scott Brooks has over two decades of coaching experience under his belt. Among his head coaching jobs were stints with the OKC from 2008-2015 and the Wizards from 2016-21. He was most recently seen on the bench for the Blazers under Chauncey Billups.

On the other hand, Borrego also boasts a similar track record. The Pelicans assistant coach has a record of 148-183 as head coach. His two NBA championship wins came as an assistant coach, working under Greg Popovich at the Spurs.

Rajon Rondo and Jared Dudley are also candidates the Lakers are monitoring. Given the names involved in the search, it’s quite easy to presume that JJ Redick will have a competent crew behind him next season.
