LeBron James’ desire to play with his son in the league came to fruition a couple of days ago when the Lakers drafted Bronny as their 55th pick. The move received numerous criticisms as well as support, but the James family preferred to remain mum on the matter. Finally, the Lakers star broke his silence with his recent social media post.
Taking pride in his son’s achievement, the 39- year-old posted several pictures on Instagram but didn’t say exactly about the draft. However, this time after soaking it all in, LeBron shared his thoughts on X (FKA Twitter). Along with a string of crying emojis, the 20-time All-Star wrote, “With the 55th in the 2024 NBA draft. The Los Angeles Lakers select……. Bronny James. (emojis). Just had a moment!”

The day LeBron and Bronny step on the hardwood together in the Purple and Gold, might be an emotional moment for the family but a historic one for the league. As the fans will witness for the very first time, a father-son duo playing together in the NBA.
Yes, LeBron has made up his mind about staying with the Lakers, which will give him the opportunity to play with his eldest son, Bronny. However, that comes with financial loss, but that is nothing for King James as he has the franchise’s best interest in mind.
LeBron James Willing to Take Pay Cut
There was a big question mark about LeBron James’ future with the Lakers after they got eliminated from the playoffs. Well, it has been answered recently. The 4-time champion decided to opt out of his 51.4 million contract and reportedly will be signing a 3-year $162 million deal. However, LeBron is ready to even take a pay cut if that helps the franchise to acquire pivotal pieces in the offseason.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, LeBron is willing to take a $20 million paycut. The Lakers are targeting Jonas Valanciunas and Klay Thompson in free agency and LeBron’s pay cut would give the franchise the financial flexibility to get those moves done.
LeBron James is willing to take a $20 million pay cut in order for the Lakers to secure the full mid-level exception, per @wojespn:
– There’s a sense LeBron will take it year-to-year now on new contracts instead of a multi-year deal.

Valanciunas’ addition will give the Lakers the much-needed rim protection and front court presence alongside Anthony Davis. Klay Thompson is also potentially interested in joining the Lakers after receiving an unsatisfactory offer from the Warriors. With the whole of the summer ahead us, it will be interesting to see how the franchise approach their team building.
