Missouri’s Kansas City — On Monday, the Chiefs extended a new two-year contract to tight end Travis Kelce, which resulted in a considerable increase in his salary.
According to a source who spoke with Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $34.25 million, with $17 million of that amount being fully guaranteed for this season and the majority of the remaining compensation being guaranteed on the third day of the 2025 league year.
“It is difficult to put into words what Travis represents to this company and this city. He was clearly a priority to change his contract for us, and it was something that Clark [Hunt] considered to be significant. “It is absolutely fitting that Travis is now the tight end with the highest salary over the course of these two years,” general manager Brett Veach said on Monday.
Kelce expressed his gratitude to the Chiefs by saying in a video that was uploaded to X that it was “an honor and a pleasure and I can’t wait to get after it these next two years… Chiefs forever.”
As a way to commemorate the renewal of his favorite target’s contract, quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted on X, “I told yall I’ll never let him leave!! Congratulations, my good friend! I am @tkelce.
When asked how much longer Kelce, who is 34 years old, can continue to play, Veach responded by saying, “Every once in a while, you come across one of these players who stands out from the rest, and Travis is definitely one of those players.” Travis was the first guy in line, and I mean, he looked like he was 28 years old. Today, we had the opportunity to come out there in Phase 2 of the offseason program, and guys were running around. Travis was the first guy in line.
We will surely celebrate this with Travis, and we hope that we will be able to ride this thing for even longer. “The odds of someone playing this far into their thirties are really rare, but it does happen, and it happens with just unicorns in the profession. Travis is one of those unicorns. Thus, all we can do is wait and watch what happens. He just found that extra gear, and these exceptional athletes, these special players are always able to find that extra gear. However, I have not seen any signs that [Kelce] is slowing down, and everyone is aware of the sort of postseason he had.
According to Travis, “If anyone could do it, he can.”
Kelce did not achieve his eighth consecutive season of 1,000 yards in 2023, falling short by 16 yards. Due to a knee injury, he was unable to participate in the opening game of the season. He also did not play in the final game in order to rest for the playoffs. Seven consecutive seasons in which he accumulated 1,000 yards is a record for his position.
During the previous season, Kelce had 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl nine times in a row and has been named to the first team of All-Pro Football four times.
In addition, he had 32 receptions for 355 yards and four touchdowns during the postseason, which contributed to the Chiefs’ victory in the Super Bowl for the second year in a row and for the third time in the past five seasons.
Throughout his 11 seasons in the NFL, Kelce has racked up 907 receptions, 11,328 yards, and 74 touchdowns. His 165 receptions for 1,903 yards and 19 touchdowns in 22 postseason games set a new record for the National Football League.
Kelce has also established himself as a crossover celebrity, in part because of his association with the pop diva Taylor Swift and his appearances on shows such as “Saturday Night Live.” In addition to the fact that the podcast that he and his brother, Jason Kelce, who was a center for the Philadelphia Eagles in the past, have been hosting has become one of the most popular in a variety of categories, he will soon be hosting a quiz show on Amazon Prime.
