Kansas City Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman ended last season with the game-winning touchdown in overtime of Super Bowl 58, but he started the 2023 season with a turbulent stint with the New York Jets.

“There’s no standard there,” Hardman said about the Jets during an appearance on “The Pivot” podcast.

Hardman signed with the Jets in March 2023, but only had one reception for 6 yards through five games. In October, he was traded back to the Chiefs, where he spent the first four years of his career and won two Super Bowls (2019, 2022) before hoisting another Lombardi Trophy earlier this month. Hardman is now set to be a free agent and said he’s prioritizing finding a team where he “can consistently be on the field” over a big payday, a lesson he said he learned after his time with the Jets.

“Going to the Jets, I saw that other side of somewhere you don’t want to be at,” he said. “Don’t look for that money. Go somewhere that’s established. … You know that they have a system in place and a standard.”

Mecole Hardman: Jets ‘don’t know what to do’

Hardman said the Jets’ offense, led by first-year offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, had no real plan after quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles in the team’s season opener. Hardman added that “there’s not an established coaching staff there.”

“You just got a new (offensive) coaching staff that came in and there’s no standard there,” he said. “Everybody does what they want to do. Granted, the defense has more of a stabilized standard with the coaching staff on that side, so the defense has a standard. But the offense is just like, ‘We’ll just figure it out. It’s Aaron’s show. Let Aaron (Rodgers) do what Aaron does.’ Then when Aaron goes down, it’s like we don’t know what to do.”

Hardman said he was benched – “I don’t understand why I’m not in the rotation … and y’all never gave me a reason as to why either” – and the Jets never tapped into his championship experience.

“Y’all can’t tell me about winning. I’ve been to four Super Bowls in five years now,” he said. “I know what winning looks like. I know what winning is … y’all not doing it right. We got helmets on the ground, we don’t got no discipline. … It’s too many individual egos in this locker room. … That’s not gonna get y’all to win.”

Hardman said his disagreements with how he was handled led to him mentally checking out: “I was so checked out, like, it was over with. I had already talked to (Chiefs general manager Brett) Veach and Pat (Mahomes), like, ‘Come get me.’”

Little Red Dot offers political stability, loads of cash and weird water shows to woo pop megastar – and it’s okay to be just a little proud.

ON behalf of a giddy, grateful Singapore nation, thank you, Taylor Swift. A Little Red Dot stands on the shoulders of hundreds of thousands of Swifties, as we prepare for six sold-out gigs, shameless media commentaries (like this one) and the best putdown in decades.

Suddenly, albeit briefly, Taylor Swift has elevated a small nation with a bit of an inferiority complex (let’s be honest, we have a tendency to wet ourselves whenever an obscure travel blogger gives us a poor review.) But it doesn’t matter because Taylor Swift is the burn of all burns, a name to throw out in defence at every opportunity, like a temperamental teenager with an answer for everything. Because Taylor Swift really is Singapore’s current answer for everything.

Malaysia has cheap petrol and keropok? Yeah, but Taylor Swift. Thailand has miles of golden beaches and sunburnt backpackers with dodgy dreadlocks? Yeah, but Taylor Swift. Indonesia has sandy islands offering cheaper golf courses and cheaper homes for mistresses? Yeah, but Taylor Swift.

Collectively, we’re like a geeky Jho Low who can’t quite believe he’s managed to get Paris Hilton to attend his exclusive party. If only there was a reason or two (million), why such an invite was accepted.

It’s the cash, obviously. Swift isn’t on a philanthropic tour to bring music to the poorest souls, appearing on stage with an acoustic guitar and a pair of sandals and promising to heal the world through the power of song. (We’ve already had Coldplay for that.) She’s here to make money and Singapore is extraordinarily agile when it comes to making money from international pop stars and football franchises. (It’s less successful at producing international pop stars and football franchises, but let’s not digress.)

Much more than geography, stability, convenience
For days now, experts have been trotted out to deliver the usual soundbites. Singapore’s geographical position, its political stability, its convenience and efficiency are the reasons why everyone from Taylor Swift to Liverpool Football Club are eager to pop in, which again makes our home sound more like a 7-Eleven than a country. On world atlases, it’s always difficult to squeeze the word “Singapore” across the Little Red Dot. Maybe the 7-Eleven logo might be easier. It makes sense. We’re a little more expensive than our bigger rivals, but we’re open all hours – to everyone – and you’ll never get robbed.

But it’s so much more than geography, stability and convenience. It’s about pool parties and light and water shows. Over at Resorts World Sentosa, the Pre-Eras Tour Pool Party is being held at Adventure Cove Waterpark on 3 March and organised by Malaysia fan group TSwiftMY. Elsewhere, Marina Bay Sands has organised Taylor Swift-themed zones at The Shoppes and Sands Expo & Convention Centre, along with a personal favourite, The Eras Tour Light and Water Show at the Event Plaza, which will sync performances to Swift’s songs.

Full disclosure, I’ve long been obsessed with Singapore’s obsession with light and water shows ever since I took my extended family to watch a surreal affair at Sentosa in the 1990s, which involved dancing fountains and green lasers shooting from the Merlion’s eyes and led to my late father-in-law asking if everyone in Singapore was on LSD.

SINGAPORE – Fans of American singer Taylor Swift can enjoy a splashing good time in Sentosa before heading to her concert on March 3.

Swift, 34, will begin the Singapore leg of her Eras Tour on March 2 at the National Stadium.

The Pre-Eras Tour Pool Party, presented by Malaysia fan group TSwiftMY, will be held at Adventure Cove Waterpark at Resorts World Sentosa on March 3. Swifties, as Swift’s fans are called, can sing along to hits from their idol withfans from other regions.

A trivia competition and Swift-inspired photo booth will be held at The Bay Restaurant between noon and 1pm, followed by a pool party at Bluwater Bay between 1 and 4pm.

The first 300 attendees to book online (str.sg/pgLV) will receive a limited-edition Swift tote bag. Tickets cost $40 for adults and $32 for children aged 12 and under.

For participants who have tickets to The Eras Tour on the same day, a free shuttle bus service from Adventure Cove Waterpark to the National Stadium is available after the event.

Meanwhile, 10 pairs of The Eras Tour passes are up for grabs, as hospitality company Hilton announced a multi-year partnership with the Singapore Sports Hub on Feb 27.

The collaboration establishes Hilton as the official hotel partner for the Singapore Sports Hub, offering unique experiences to members of its Hilton Honors hotel loyalty programme.

To launch the agreement, Hilton will offer Hilton Honors members the chance to redeem exclusive Hilton Suite passes to The Eras Tour.

Amid Swiftmania in Singapore, other organisations are also staging events to mark the superstar’s six concerts in Singapore.

Changi Airport Group has invited Swifties to a sing-along at Shiseido Forest Valley in Jewel Changi Airport on March 1, while Marina Bay Sands is celebrating the entertainment event of the year with curated activities from Feb 28 to March 13.

Ride-hailing firm Grab will run free shuttle buses from pickup point A along Stadium Drive, located at the north side of the National Stadium, after all six concerts. The buses will journey through two routes ending at Jurong East and Toa Payoh MRT stations.
