The actor had also teased the future of the beloved superhero after the release of the movie.
Dwayne Johnson’s superhero film Black Adam, which was years in the making, was panned by critics and was a box office bomb. To top it off, the post-credits scene of the film teased the appearance of Henry Cavill’s Superman into the franchise again, only for the cinematic universe to be rebooted.
However, reports indicate that a deleted post-credits scene teased the return of another beloved superhero from Black Adam. The Justice Society’s Doctor Fate, who sacrifices himself in the film, was set to return in a second post-credits scene.

The Dwayne Johnson starrer Black Adam was not just the first outing of the beloved character, but it also introduced a bunch of new characters that had never received a cinematic adaptation before. The best of them was the Justice Society, which contained heroes like Hawkman, Cyclone, Atom Smasher, and the beloved Doctor Fate.
James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan played the role of Kent Nelson a.k.a Doctor Fate in the fantasy superhero film. Fate is the wise old member of the Justice Society and has magical abilities, aided by his mystical Helmet of Fate. Doctor Fate sacrifices himself near the end of the film, in order to save Hawkman and defeat the demon Sabbac.
A still from Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam
While fans were disappointed that the beloved superhero had such a short tenure in the DCU, a report from The Direct reveals that in a second post-credits scene in the movie, which was deleted before release, it is hinted that the superhero would return in the future installments of the series. The exclusive report read,
“The brief scrapped sequence takes place during the day in a sandy location. The opening shot slowly pans up from the ground to reveal Doctor Fate’s helmet sitting atop the sand. A hand then comes into the frame to pick up The Helmet of Fate, although the scene quickly cuts to black before the identity of the mystery individual can be revealed.”
While there is no explicit mention of Brosnan making an appearance in the scene, it is still indicated that the superhero has not yet said goodbye to his mystical helmet.
Pierce Brosnan And Dwayne Johnson Were Hopeful About Doctor Fate’s Return

The DCEU as we know it has been rebooted to make way for James Gunn’s new DCU. Hence, most of the actors and their iteration of the superheroes would not return for the new shared universe. That means the tease at the end of Black Adam, where Henry Cavill’s Superman meets up with Dwayne Johnson’s Teth Adam is nothing but an unrealized dream.
While it is useless to speculate about the consequences of whatever happened in Black Adam, the makers at the time were positive that Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate would return in some form in future installments. Director Jaume Collet-Serra mentioned that the character was like ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, who despite dying appears in every Star Wars film. Brosnan too indicated that there were possibilities. In an interview with USA Today, he said,
“So I think the door is open…I honestly have no idea where this will go. I just know I’m very proud of the work playing Dr. Fate and honored being part of the DC comic book world.”
Right after the release of the film, Dwayne Johnson tweeted that he loved Doctor Fate and that fans of the superhero would see more of him in coming installments.
