Travis Kelce is dabbling in more than football this offseason. The Chiefs’ tight end’s film hit the screens recently and garnered positive reviews from critics and fans alike.
This is Kelce’s first venture as an executive producer in the media industry. ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ is a dark comedy made in Oregon and recently premiered at the SXSW festival. The film was already highly anticipated, considering the connection with Kelce, but now it’s being appreciated for its storyline and performances. Such a positive reception of his first film makes way for the NFL star’s next venture as a game show host.
‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ is enjoying an overwhelmingly positive response and secured an IMDB rating of 9.8/10 and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, the film is described as a war comedy and talks about the mental health of veterans. The protagonist, a US war veteran, is being contacted by the spirit of her dead comrade, Zoe.
The film goes deeper than a simple ghost story, though, and attempts to narrate a lighthearted take on the life of a soldier post-duty. Kelce’s producer debut is made using Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, becoming the first film to implement the act. This greatly reduced the budget of production, ultimately costing less than 10 million.
With the initial success of Kelce’s film, the tight end has dipped his toes into Hollywood. Next up, fans await the official announcement of the tight end’s debut as a game show host.
