With the Kansas City Chiefs about to play in the Super Bowl this month for the fourth time in five years, it is clear that quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going to be the starting quarterback for the rest of his career. However, while Mahomes’ job is safe, there has not been a lot of talk about addressing the backup quarterback position, which could be very important if the star quarterback suffered a long-term injury. According to a trade proposal, here is who could be the backup to Mahomes as soon as next season.
Zach Wilson Trade Rumors
According to former Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, and Seattle Seahawks GM Randy Mueller, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson could be a move that the Chiefs could make that would make sense. Here is what Mueller said in the exclusive interview:
I think, ideally, if [Wilson] could go somewhere with a veteran, established guy, and sit and learn- and it’s a legitimate offense that he can learn and a legitimate offensive coach and scheme- I think there will be a few landing spots, I really do.
There [are] enough veteran quarterbacks in backup positions that are up in the air going forward that [Wilson] might make some sense [to replace]. I think the Chiefs might make some sense.

#Chiefs this off-season, former MVP Boomer Esiason believes.“He’s gonna end up in Kansas City with Andy Reid. Andy Reid is gonna pick him up, take him off the scrap heap, and turn him into a QB.”

Could The Kansas City Chiefs Get Wilson?

While there have been no signs of the Jets moving on from Wilson, there have been several rumors that the quarterback could be on the move this offseason, since veteran Aaron Rodgers will take back the starting quarterback responsibilities in New York. While Wilson may not have what it takes to be a solid starter in the NFL at this moment in time, putting him behind a guy like Mahomes could take Wilson’s career to the next level in the future.
Wilson is still only 24 years old, which means he still has a lot of years in him to develop and become one of the better quarterbacks in the league. The current backup in Kansas City is 34-year-old Blaine Gabbert, who will likely be calling it a career soon, especially if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl this season. Do you think Wilson will go to the Chiefs in 2024, or will he remain the backup to Rodgers in New York?
