NFL Sets Record $255.4 Million Salary Cap for 2024, Fans Speculate Taylor Swift’s Influence

In a stunning announcement, the NFL has revealed a salary cap for the 2024 season of $255.4million – an increase of $30.6million from the limit from a year prior.

The league cited two reasons for such a large increase. First, the teams have fully repaid loans they took out in order to guarantee players were paid their full salaries during the pandemic affected 2020 season.

Second, the NFL pointed to ‘an extraordinary increase in media revenue for the 2024 season’ as another reason for the jump.

Since the start of the decade, the NFL’s salary cap has increased $57.2m in spite of a global pandemic resulting in a decrease of roughly $16m in 2021.

Compared to 2014, the 2024 budget is $122.4m bigger and 2004’s cap was about $174.8m less than this coming season’s.

Fans all over Twitter celebrated the jump and appeared to give Swift most of the credit for that

While the league didn’t cite a specific reason for the increased media revenue, many fans jumped to the conclusion that the incessant coverage of Taylor Swift and her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was to thank for that.

Many fans posted thanks to Swift or decided to pin the salary increase almost solely on her.

One excited Houston fan wrote, ‘TAYLOR SWIFT JUST MADE THE TEXANS SUPERBOWL CONTENDERS’.

NFL free agency begins on March 13 at 4:00pm Eastern Time. Teams are allowed to start negotiating with free agents beginning March 11 at noon.

Among the notable free agents in this years class are Chiefs pass rusher Chris Jones, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, and Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.
