A report for Jason Kelce’s lost Super Bowl ring was filed to University of Cincinnati police.
The report, obtained by The Enquirer, details the misplacement of Kelce’s ring, which was lost during last week’s live “New Heights” podcast event at UC’s Fifth Third Arena that Jason Kelce hosted alongside his brother, Travis Kelce.
Kayla Follmuth − a brand director for the media company Wave Sports + Entertainment, which “New Heights” is a part of − made the report April 12, the day after the event.
On Wednesday’s episode of his podcast, Kelce revealed he lost his ring in a pool of Skyline Chili, which was part of the event’s Lombaby Games, a competition between student-athletes and academics.
Mixed into the chili were two socks, each containing a replica of Kelce’s Super Bowl ring, and an additional sock with the actual 2018 Super Bowl prize. To win the event, the Team Jocks and Team Academics competitors had to find one of the replicas or the real Super Bowl ring.
“Once the event was concluded Mr. Kelce’s ring was unable to be located. Several event staff members spent hours sifting through the food in the inflatable pool with no success,” the police report reads.
The ring, which is listed as “lost property” rather than stolen on the report, was estimated to be worth $100,000 at the time the report was filed, it reads.
The seven-time Pro Bowler said during his podcast that he thinks the sock containing his ring was kicked out of the Skyline Chili pool and thrown away at some point.
“We can safely assume my Super Bowl ring is now in a landfill some place in the Cincinnati tri-state area,” Kelce said.
Mount Rumpke landfill not currently looking for the ring
Molly Yeager, corporate communications manager at Rumpke Waste & Recycling, told The Enquirer neither Kelce nor anyone from his team has inquired about the missing item.
Yeager said the Rumpke sales team reached out to UC and confirmed dumpster items from the live show were collected and disposed of at the landfill in Colerain Township, often referred to as Mount Rumpke.
The landfill expands across 554 acres on Rumpke’s 1,000-acre Struble Road property. Up to 12,500 tons of waste is dumped at the site daily, according to Yeager, so the the possibility of locating such a small object is “very unlikely.”
She did, however, suggest that the ring could become part of the lore of Mount Rumpke, where “Touchdown Jesus,” a large chocolate bar and a circus elephant are also supposedly buried.
“We can share that with future tour groups about interesting things buried at the landfill. … It’s going to be in good company there,” Yeager said.
