The Philadelphia Eagles could be an ideal landing spot for a well-known coach.

As head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman scour the market for coordinator candidates, one name that could be appealing is former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, as Eagles Wire’s Glenn Erby writes. While McDaniels most recently served as the Raiders’ head coach, he’s best known for his long tenure as the New England Patriots‘ offensive coordinator.

Erby points to McDAniels’ recent success with Mac Jones as the quarterback of the Patriots. Jones led New England to a playoff berth and secured a Pro Bowl selection during his rookie season in 2021. Since McDaniels’ departure, Jones holds an 8-17 record and lost his starting job to Bailey Zappe this season.

“McDaniel’s should never be an NFL head coach again, but you can’t deny his offensive accumen, or results as a coordinator,” writes Erby. “McDaniels got Jones to play the best football of his three-year career as a rookie in 2021. Jones threw 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions with a 92.5 passer rating that season, leading the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth.”

It’s no secret that McDaniels has failed as a head coach in the NFL. After a disastrous two-year stint with the Denver Broncos during the 2009 and 2010 seasons — he was the youngest head coach and led Denver to an 11-17 record before his firing before the end of 2010 — McDaniels was fired as the Raiders’ head coach during the 2023 season. He had signed a six-year contract worth $10 million annually with Las Vegas.

McDaniels led the Raiders to a 9-16 record with a 3-5 record this season prior to his firing. Once Antonio Pierce was promoted as the interim head coach, Las Vegas went 5-4 to close out the season.

However, for all of his shortcomings as a head coach, McDaniels is an offensive mastermind. McDaniels presided as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the Patriots’ 16-0 2007 regular season. That was the same season that Tom Brady broke the single-season record for touchdown passes (50) while also breaking the single-season record for points (589).

After leaving the Patriots for the Broncos’ head coaching job and a short stint with the St. Louis Rams, he returned to the Patriots in 2012 as the offensive coordinator. The Patriots immediately led the NFL in points in his first season back and ranked in the top four in McDaniels’ first seven seasons back in New England.

Why Eagles Could Soon Find New Offensive Coordinator

While the Eagles technically have Brian Johnson employed as their offensive coordinator, he has gone through several interviews for open head coaching vacancies — Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons — and Philadelphia could seek a change after struggling on offense towards the end of the season.

The Eagles scored nine points in their playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and averaged 16.7 points per game in their last three games, ranking 26th in the NFL.

If the Eagles are serious about pivoting away from their current coordinators, it’s hard to find a better name than McDaniels to lead your offense. Considering his prior history with Brady and Jones as his quarterbacks, the Eagles could rejuvenate their offense by hiring the former longtime Patriots head coach.

Meanwhile, Le Batard’s co-host commented that it is surely a distressing experience having an attractive parent as a high schooler. “That and them telling me my dad paid off the refs-one of the two insults where they made their name,” Curry added with a chuckle.

It’s quite natural that Steph had to endure accusations of nepotism because of his father’s involvement with the NBA, especially considering the fact that the sharp shooter never really looked like a traditional NBA prospect. Jokes and taunts about his mother only added to the woes of the undersized guard.

Basketball player Klay Thompson has a new fan in Stephen Curry’s son Canon.

In an adorable video shared by the NBA account on Instagram, the 4-year-old can be seen expressing his admiration for his dad’s fellow Golden State Warriors teammate after the team defeated the Boston Celtics on Saturday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

While holding Curry’s hand as the group appeared to head into the locker room following the game, Canon turned around and said to the L.A. native, “Hello, Klay Thompson.”

In addition to Canon, Curry shares daughters Riley, 10, and Ryan, 7, with his wife Ayesha Curry.

Speaking to E! News at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards earlier this month, the 4-time NBA champion shared his children’s opinion of him.

Asked if his children are as “impressed” with him “as other people are,” Curry, the honoree for the evening, said, “I would hope to say yes but probably for different reasons. I don’t think they care too much about how many times the ball goes in the basket.”

The father of three added, “They’ve been to a couple parades and all that, so they enjoy the festivities of celebrating a championship. But when you’re at home you’re just Dad and that’s the best part about it.”

“You get to watch them grow and blossom and find their personality and support them and have fun with them. They like my goofiness and the way you just show up at home more than anything,” he explained.

As for whether his children are budding athletes themselves, he said Riley is currently “interested in volleyball” while Ryan “is still figuring out if sports is her thing or not. Obviously, there’s no right or wrong answer there.”

He also said Canon is “pretty athletic from what I can see,” before adding, “There’s no pressure either way. We just want them to find what they love and support them.”

Curry also credited his family for their support over his career, calling them “the gas in the engine” for giving him “the space to invest in my craft, and the amount of sacrifice it takes to work at that level, but also the unconditional support of wins, losses, great games, bad games, they’re there and I hope to be there for them in all that life throws at us.”

He conceded that basketball “is gonna end at some point,” but he’s looking forward to sharing his experiences with his children.

The Golden State Warriors’ point guard Stephen “Steph” Curry is partnering with a Kentucky distillery on a new bourbon, according to Louisville Business First.

Curry’s SC30 Inc., alongside California winery owner John Schwartz, has formed a joint venture with Boone County Distilling to create Gentleman’s Cut, a 90-proof bourbon that is aged between five and seven years in new charred white oak barrels. The bourbon will be released worldwide in May, though an exact date was not disclosed.

Gentleman’s Cut is distilled, aged and bottled by Game Changer Distillery in Boone County, the joint venture between Curry, Schwartz and Boone County Distilling.

The bourbon will sell for a suggested retail price of $80 for a 750-mililiter bottle. Game Changer Distillery describes the whiskey as having notes of cinnamon, seared caramel and sweet toasted chestnut.

“This rich, complex and bold bourbon is the perfect offering to commemorate life’s great occasions, and will be part of a raised-glass toasting moment in the lives of my fans, friends and family,” Curry said in a news release.
