The Lakers have endured a topsy-turvy season. Expectations were higher than ever following their capture of the NBA’s maiden In-Season Tournament back in December, yet Los Angeles fell out of the playoff spots thanks to a woeful couple of months in December and January. They have since steadied the ship, with a record of 18-8 since February.

Now 9th in the Western Conference with a record of 42-33, LA will be hoping to achieve an unlikely climb out of the play-in with only seven games to go in the regular season.

The last playoff spot is currently occupied by the sixth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans. New Orleans has a three-game lead over the Lakers. LA does however hold a 2-1 season series lead over New Orleans.

The two teams will meet at the Smoothie King Center on the last day of the regular season in what could be a pivotal finale for both teams.

The Los Angeles Lakers had a big task in front of them on Saturday night as they hosted Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and the defending champion Denver Nuggets. Aside from the Lakers attempting to end their losing streak to Denver, the other big story coming into the contest was LeBron James being set to become the first player to reach 40,000 career points.

Early in the second quarter he would do just that, attacking the basket and finishing a layup to reach a milestone that seemed impossible. Just surpassing Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the top spot was something that many thought would never be done, but now LeBron is continuing to stretch that record out even further and opening up a club where only he resides.

What LeBron has done is truly something special and even the opposition recognizes it. After the game, Jokic praised James for reaching that milestone.

“It’s a great, great [accomplishment],” Jokic said. “It’s just amazing how many years he’s playing at an extremely high level. When you see now who can reach him, it’s really hard to see. Murray scored 17 of his 24 points after halftime as the Nuggets pulled away down the stretch despite the best efforts of the Lakers. What LeBron accomplished on this night may not be seen again for decades, but it was Jokic, Murray and the Nuggets that walked off the court with a smile on their faces.

During his night off, LeBron decided to take a seat next to Buss and Rambis at courtside.

LeBron James took to Instagram Wednesday to show his agreement with ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, who had a few scathing remarks for college football coaches complaining that it’s difficult to retain talent because players keep transferring this day and age.

 

“I have zero interest from hearing from them,” Greenberg said on a recent Get Up.

He went on to cite a statistic that in 2018 there were 21 college football coaches that joined new programs. As of today, only one remained in that position. Not because they had all been fired, but because the bulk of them took better opportunities—something Greenberg said that athletes have every right to do. James couldn’t have agreed more.
