Wales ace Louis Rees-Zammit has revealed that NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were quick to welcome him to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 23-year-old announced in January that he would be leaving rugby to try his hand at American football and joined the NFL’s international pathway program.
Rees-Zammit spent 10 weeks in an intensive training camp before trying out at a pro day. He then met with a number of franchises, including the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos, but he settled on the Chiefs.
After agreeing a three-year contract, joining the likes of Mahomes and Kelce at the defending Super Bowl champions, the speedster disclosed to The Rugby Pod the messages he received.
“Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce messaged me, just saying ‘welcome to KC’, and that if I ever needed anything let them know,” he said.
Mahomes is arguably the best player in the sport while Kelce has been one of the leading tight ends over the past few years.
However, the latter’s fame has been elevated following the news that he was dating world famous popstar Taylor Swift.
The revelation that Kelce had already contacted Rees-Zammit prompted Rees-Zammit’s ex-Wales team-mate Dan Biggar, who was also on the podcast, to ask for a favour.
“Zam, my Mrs wants a couple of tickets to Taylor Swift in the summer,” Biggar joked, to which Rees-Zammit replied: “I will try and make that work for you!”
Rees-Zammit described the last few months as a “whirlwind” and how the news that he is now a Chief has not yet “sunk in.”
“It’s mad. When I left the facility and was coming home on the plane, I was in the airport in Kansas. I was in security and some guy was looking at me weird,” he said.
“He just went, ‘are you a sportsperson?’ I was like, ‘yeah’, and he went, ‘who do you play for?’ Honestly, when I said it, I felt so weird saying it!
“It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I think it’s going to sink in when I meet all the boys and I get to training on the first day. It’s been an absolute whirlwind for three months.”
Rees-Zammit starts pre-season training soon as he looks to do enough to get himself on the 53-man roster for the start of the 2024/25 NFL campaign.
It will be a mightily tough ask, particularly in terms of adapting to the amount of information he has to take in, but the Welshman is excited about his new journey.
“I’ve met a couple of players, I haven’t met everyone but even just the staff around the building, you just know they have belief in everything they do,” he added.
“They’re such a professional organisation. That was the kind of feeling I went in there with and they just blew me away.
“You’ve got to learn, over a season, probably 1,000 plays. You’re going into a game with 80 plays. I mean in rugby we’ve got, what, five scrum attacks, five lineout attacks, so it’s a lot of revision time.
“I’m going to go train with Pat and the receivers, and it’s going to be an amazing experience. There’s no one better to learn from than the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and (head coach) Andy Reid.”

It sure looks like Dre Greenlaw tore his achilles while running onto the field during Super Bowl LVIII.
The injury occurred after the 49ers punted back to the Chiefs and the Niners defense was jogging back onto the field. Greenlaw took a step and fell to the ground.
Greenlaw was carted to the locker room.

For the second straight year, the Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions, defeating the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, in overtime.
With this year’s Super Bowl being played in Las Vegas, the afterparty celebrating for Kansas City was top notch. The Chiefs left Allegiant Stadium and arrived at the Strip at XS Nightclub for the celebration that included performances from The Chainsmokers, Marshmallow and Post Malone.
During Post Malone’s performance, he was wearing a Cowboys jacket and Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Patrick Mahomes, didn’t like that. She somehow convinced him to ditch the Dallas gear and wear a Chiefs jacket.
Post Malone had no choice but to agree.
Here’s the video:

Jason Kelce was living his best life, celebrating is brother, Travis, Super Bowl win.
Following the Kansas City Chiefs 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, Jason was spotted partying with a Luchador mask while in Marshmello’s D.J. Booth.
Jason Kelce has yet to announce his retirement from the NFL but all indications are he might be ready to hang up his cleats. Earlier this week, it was reported that the legendary Eagles center met with multiple TV networks about a potential broadcasting career.

Footage of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes watching Monday’s solar eclipse with his family has gone viral on social media.
Millions gathered across the U.S. to watch the spectacle, flooding the 13 states in the eclipse’s path of totality—where the moon completely blocked out the sun. With the route beginning in Mexico and ending in Texas, some areas were blacked out for up to four minutes.
Emergency warnings were broadcast in some locations due to the expected influx of visitors, along with messages on how to safely view the eclipse.
Safety was of concern for NFL star Mahomes, when he watched the phenomenon with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, and their two children, daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and son Patrick, nicknamed “Bronze,” born in November 2022.

Brittany Mahomes shared Instagram Story posts of the experience, showing the family gathered outside. One video clip showed Patrick Mahomes holding his daughter as his wife asked: “Sterling, what do you see?”

“I see a moon,” the toddler responded as she held in place her protective eyewear—a vital accessory for looking directly at the eclipse.
Also protecting his eyes, Patrick Mahomes looked up at the sky as he exclaimed: “Dang!”
However, a later video showed the athlete averting potential disaster when Sterling was seen wandering around on the porch before attempting to look up at the sky without her protective eyewear.
The doting dad ran with his arms up to block his daughter’s view, as Brittany Mahomes said with a laugh: “Don’t look, Sterling!”
Heeding her mother’s advice, the youngster quickly turned her head as the brief clip came to an end.
A snippet of the moment was copied and shared on X, formerly Twitter, where, as of press time, it has garnered more than 180,000 views.
“[I don’t know] why, but is so funny to me,” the uploader captioned the clip. “Pat running to block Sterling from looking at the sun without her glasses[…] his hands.”
Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi Martin, responded to the post, writing of her son: “He really is the best daddy!!”
Ahead of the eclipse, officials advised that looking directly at the sun during the event risked causing severe and permanent damage to the eyes.
Ultraviolet radiation can cause sunburn of the cornea, known as solar keratitis, possibly leading to solar retinopathy when a hole is burned into the retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye).
It is crucial to use proper eye protection such as solar viewing glasses or indirect viewing methods like pinhole projectors. These methods allow you to safely observe the eclipse without risking eye damage.
These glasses have special filters that block out harmful ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation.
“Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and ought to comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard,” NASA advised in a post about eclipse safety ahead of Monday’s event.
The next eclipse visible from the U.S. will be 20 years from now, in August 2044.

The exciting end to Super Bowl sent fans that were watching the big game trying to understand the NFL’s new postseason overtime rules.
As it turns out, some players on the San Francisco 49ers didn’t know the OT rules either.
Following the 49ers 25-22 overtime loss to the Chiefs, multiple 49ers players acknowledged to reporters that they hadn’t familiarized themselves with the postseason overtime rules, which were changed in 2022.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk said the 49ers had not talked about it as a team prior to Sunday night.
Another Niners player – defensive lineman Arik Armstead – said players learned about the new rules when they appeared on the Jumbotron at Allegiant Stadium, which caused some confusion not the Niners sideline.
Meanwhile the Chiefs took a different approach. Chris Jones told reporters that the Chiefs had discussed the new overtime rules for “two weeks.
” He added that the Chiefs game plan would’ve been to “give the ball to the opponent. If we score, we go for 2.”
This is the only the second time in NFL history that the Super Bowl went to overtime.
The first time was in 2017, when the New England Patriots overcame a 28-3 deficit to comeback and beat the Atlanta Falcons, 34-28, in overtime. During that time, the NFL was operating under it’s old overtime rules, which stated that the game would end if the first team that posses the ball in overtime scored a touchdown.
It’s going to be a long offseason for the 49ers.

Roger Goodell and the NFL will never admit this, nor can they, but surely the powers in charge wanted a Taylor Swift Super Bowl, and this is exactly why.
In what couldn’t have been scripted better, Chiefs star TE Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift formed a relationship halfway through the season, causing opposite worlds to collide every Sunday with the pop superstar making appearances at games regularly, in turn converting millions of “Swifties” to NFL fans meaning massive upticks for apparel and viewership.
With the Chiefs making it to Super Bowl 58 in a miraculous run to face off against a storied franchise like the 49ers, everything was lined up to make it the highest viewed program in television history, and boy did it deliver.

Athletic greatness runs in the Mahomes family
Patrick Mahomes‘ son Bronze Mahomes is already showing early signs that he could be a the next sports star to carry on the Mahomes family legacy.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback posted a video of his 1-year-old son lining up a “three-pointer” in their house, and his reaction said all you need to know about Bronze’s budding talent.
Posted the night of the NCAA men’s basketball championship game, the elder Mahomes screamed “Oh! Three!” to hype up his young hooper. In fact, Bronze barely seemed impressed at his own sharpshooting prowess, chasing the rebound while his dad cheered him on.

Patrick’s cheer of “three” may have been about the shot, but it also could have referred to his son’s name: Patrick Lavon Mahomes III. The 1-year-old goes by “Bronze” in reference to being the third of his name and to keep with the metallic family naming tradition.
Bronze’s two namesakes were incredible athletes themselves. Patrick Lavon Mahomes Sr (known as Pat Mahomes), who is in the midst of legal troubles, spent 11 years as an MLB pitcher featuring a 100 mph fastball.
His arm was passed down to Patrick Lavon Mahomes II (Patrick Mahomes), who has used it to guide the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowls in the past five years. The two-time MVP is still writing his NFL legacy, but it already stacks up among the best quarterbacks in history.
You can’t forget about the other side of the family, either. Bronze’s mom, Brittany Mahomes, was a soccer star who scored 34 goals in college and played professionally in Iceland. She continued her passion for sports as a certified personal fitness trainer and a co-owner of the NWSL franchise Kansas City Current.
Bronze Mahomes’ athletic pedigree gives him a head start on the competition. It’s no wonder Patrick Mahomes can’t hide his excitement about his son’s basketball skills: we could have the next great Mahomes on our hands.
