The errors included misspelled names of former NBA players Jose Calderon and Von Wafer in a depiction of the box score from Bryant’s historic 81-point game in January 2006, as well as a misspelling of the phrase “Coach’s Decision.” Additionally, minor formatting mistakes were found in another section of the statue’s base, which showcases many of Bryant’s accomplishments.
Furthermore, the replica of Bryant’s signature on the statue now reads “Kobe” instead of “Kobe 24.” The bronze figure of Bryant is depicted wearing the No. 8 jersey he wore during the first half of his career. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, has stated that this statue is the first of three planned to honor both Kobe and their daughter, Gianna, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
