Lakers coach Darvin Ham denies LeBron James the game ball despite 39,000-point feat for hilarious reason

On Tuesday night, while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James scored 39,000 points, making him the first player in NBA history to do so.That, plus the fact that the Lakers played like the ‘Showtime’ squad in the lopsided victory, should make James happy. However, James has no plans to display the game ball as a memento of the achievement. Lakers Nation reports that Darvin Ham, the team’s coach, denied Lakers Nation that he had given James the game ball:

What we’re seeing deserves our gratitude. He was not awarded the game ball for tonight’s match because the score is 39,000 and not 40.

Fortunately for James, he is still on pace to reach 40,000 points by the end of the season, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Future Hall of Famers surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Tuesday, and the Lakers legend wasn’t the only one. After scoring in the first quarter against the Blazers, Suns player Kevin Durant moved up to eleventh all-time in NBA scoring, passing Elvin Hayes. Moses Malone, who passed away at the conclusion of his career with 27,409 points, is the guy whose career scoring total is higher than Durant’s. Within the next month or two, Durant will most certainly overtake Malone in the season standings. In the 131-99 thrashing of the Jazz by the Lakers, James finished with 17 points, seven boards, and nine assists in only 24 minutes of play.

Obviously, we still don’t know who Darvin Ham passed the ball to if it wasn’t LeBron James.

Tomorrow night, the Lakers will travel to face the Dallas Mavericks.

  • LAKER NEWS: 5 Lakers Playing Their Final Postseason in Los Angeles

LAKER NEWS: 5 Lakers Playing Their Final Postseason in Los Angeles

The 2023-24 NBA playoffs are here but it won’t be much longer until the offseason is upon us. With that in mind, these five Lakers are probably playing their final postseason in Los Angeles.

PG D'Angelo Russell is likely playing his final postseason in Los Angeles.

After eight grueling months, the Los Angeles Lakers are ready to chase an NBA Championship this postseason. Even though the regular season was far from perfect, that’s okay because the playoffs offer a clean slate for everyone. Besides, everyone should know by now not to doubt LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the postseason.

While it’s fun to look forward to playoff basketball, let’s not forget that the NBA offseason is on the horizon. Regardless of how the Lakers’ postseason run goes, there’s a good chance that a handful of players are experiencing the playoffs in Los Angeles for the last time.

Here are five Lakers who are likely playing their final postseason with the franchise.

    1. D’Angelo Russell, PG/SG

After a putrid 2022-23 playoff run, Lakers fans were ready to be done with D’Angelo Russell. Fortunately, the veteran point guard managed to turn things around this year and was a big factor in Los Angeles extending its campaign.

Russell proved that he’s still capable of being a starting PG this season, averaging about 18.0 points, 6.4 assists, and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 45.5% from the floor and a career-best 41.3% from deep. If he can keep performing at that level during the playoffs, it’ll certainly make up for his previous postseason run.

But even though Russell has exceeded expectations, his future in Los Angeles isn’t guaranteed. After all, the former Ohio State Buckeye heads into the offseason with an $18.6 million player option. If this was last year, I would say that his accepting it would be a no-brainer, but there’s a good chance that he can make even more money in free agency after balling out this season.

Maybe there’s still a world where Russell opts to re-sign with the Lakers, but I won’t hold my breath. Players dream of cashing in on big paydays and this could be the 28-year-old’s last chance at a big-money, long-term deal.

    2. Taurean Prince, SF/SG

In a season where the Lakers’ lineup has been riddled by injuries, Taurean Prince has been a consistent presence. You only need one hand to count the number of games that the veteran wing has missed this season and, fortunately, he’s made the most of his opportunities.

Prince does a little bit of everything, averaging around nine points, three rebounds, and nearly two assists per game. He’s made a career of being a deep threat, which is a trend that has continued into his eighth NBA campaign as he averages 1.8 threes made with a 39.4% success rate.

As solid as Prince has been, there’s also a chance that he will depart the City of Angels this offseason. The 30-year-old is slated to hit free agency this summer and will likely weigh his options. Considering how the Lakers were only willing to re-sign him to a one-year deal last offseason, it’s safe to say that the team might not be too keen to keep him around for the long term.

I think Prince is serviceable and I wouldn’t mind him returning on another one-year contract, but if he wants to test his worth in free agency, you can’t blame him for trying.

    3. Spencer Dinwiddie, PG/SG

Spencer Dinwiddie was a late addition to the 2023-24 Lakers roster. After being traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors at the trade deadline, the veteran point guard was waived by the Raptors, allowing him to sign with Los Angeles for the remainder of the year.

It’s safe to say that Dinwiddie has not lived up to expectations since joining the Lakers. The ex-Colorado product is averaging about 6.8 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 rebounds while playing nearly 25 minutes per outing. While his 38.6% shooting on 3.3 three-point attempts per game is solid, he’s only tallying an uninspiring 39.4% success rate from the field.

What’s disappointing is how much worse Dinwiddie’s play has gotten since leaving Brooklyn. He went from an average of 20.3 points and 9.7 assists per 100 possessions with the Nets to 13.2 and 4.8, respectively during his time with the Lakers. It’s clear that he just isn’t a good fit for Darvin Ham’s lineup.

Like Prince, Dinwiddie is also an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Given how he’s played since the trade deadline, I don’t see the Lakers being on board to re-sign him. Maybe he has something left in the tank, but he likely needs a fresh start to figure that out.

    4. Harry Giles, PF/C

Harry Giles is another veteran who didn’t join the Lakers until the latter half of the 2023-24 campaign. Like Dinwiddie, Giles was waived by the Nets at the trade deadline only to sign with the Lakers on a two-way deal nearly one month later.

In the past, Giles — a former 2017 first-round selection — was a decent backup big-man option. It’d be great if he could fill that role on Los Angeles’ roster, but that hasn’t been the case. The former Duke Blue Devil is only averaging 0.3 points and 0.3 rebounds with a 16.7 FG% while playing nearly three minutes per night across six games and hasn’t even suited up since March 27.

I just don’t see a world where the Lakers re-sign Giles after his abysmal performance. Even though he’s only 25, it looks like his best years are behind him and he no longer looks like an everyday NBAer. Forget about Los Angeles: it’s going to take a lot for him to convince any team to sign him.

Hopefully, Giles figures out how to get his game back on track because he was solid earlier in his career. A fresh start is what’s clearly needed, so look for him to attempt a comeback with another team (or an entirely different league).

    5. LeBron James, PF/C

Lakers fans don’t want to imagine a world without LeBron James, but it’s something that must be considered in the coming months.

James has been nothing but terrific since joining the Lakers back in 2018. The four-time NBA MVP has remained one of the league’s best players even at this stage of his career and nobody will forget his delivering a championship to Los Angeles in 2020 (even if it took place in the infamous Bubble).

As great as this run has been, all good things come to an end and that could be the case for the 39-year-old’s time in Los Angeles. After all, James heads into the 2024 NBA offseason with a $51.4 million player option. Considering how he’s been open to wanting to play at least one season with his son, Bronny, it’s entirely possible that “The King” opts out and signs with whichever team drafts his heir.

Additionally, opting out of his player option is the only pathway to James getting another no-trade clause on his contract. That’s not to say that he won’t re-sign with the Lakers if he chooses that direction, but it does open the door to other teams offering him a deal.

Hopefully, James realizes that sticking with the Lakers is the best way to win one more championship — potentially even with his son. Otherwise, this could be the greatest NBA player’s last postseason in Tinseltown.

The Los Angeles Lakers needed to win one game to advance to the NBA playoffs, and they took care of business on Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans. In a 110-106 win, the Lakers officially locked up the 7th seed and secured a rematch with the defending champs in round one.

The Lakers controlled the game for most of the night but the Pelicans made a late push in the fourth quarter that eventually tied the game. Zion Williamson was leading the charge for NOLA, but not even 40 points and 11 rebounds were enough to keep his team going when he went down with an injury in the closing minutes.

The good news for the Pelicans is that they have another chance to save their season on Friday, in the final play-game game against Golden State. Only time will tell how they are fair in that matchup.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Lakers fans are feeling a sense of relief right now, knowing that they guaranteed a playoff spot and are starting a similar path as last season. LeBron James continues to defy time and tonight was another breakout performance, leading the team in scoring with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists in 40 minutes of action.

Of course, the good vibes didn’t last long with the Denver Nuggets looming. These are the guys who swept the Lakers last season and now they are facing them again in the very first round.

Funnily enough, the Lakers were the 7th seed last season before their legendary run to the Conference Finals on the backs of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and young guard D’Angelo Russell. A lot has changed since then but the Lakers have no choice but to give the series everything they have and hope for the best.

Can The Lakers Beat The Denver Nuggets?

While a matchup against Denver is far from ideal for LeBron and the crew, there may be no team in the West better equipped to handle them in a 7-game series. Since it’s still early in the playoffs, the Lakers don’t have to hold back and can use their full power to take down the champs.

This year, unlike last time; they have a team that’s built up their chemistry together and they’re playing like a team with full confidence in their chances against anyone. Most important of all is that the roster is fully healthy and in eaning meaning that we’ll get the best version of LeBron and Davis in the playoffs.

Even so, the Denver Nuggets are the title favorites for a reason. Nikola Jokic is likely to win his third MVP and he’s the NBA’s best player right now with averages of 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game on 58% shooting.

Between Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon, the Nuggets have a well-balanced, star-studded roster that can compete with the likes of any team in the League. The Lakers may have more than a puncher’s chance to win the series thanks to their size, star power, and experience, but it will take a lot of things to go their way — and it will require near perfection from everyone in the rotation.

Taylor Swift apologized to Travis Kelce for being drunk at Coachella: lip reader

Taylor Swift apologized to Travis Kelce for drinking too much at Coachella 2024, according to an expert lip reader.

“Squid Game” alum Jackie Gonzalez, who is deaf, shared a series of clips via her TikTok and Instagram of the couple hanging out together at the music festival in Indio, Calif., over the weekend.

In one part, she interprets Swift, 34, happily saying hi to a fan as the pop superstar walked with Kelce, also 34, to their places in the crowd.

Swift then purportedly says to the pro athlete, “Oh, my God! We’re in the front? Wow.”

In another clip, Gonzalez claims Swift introduced Kelce to a pal, saying, “This is Travis,” before he chimes in, “I’ma go ahead and ignore that time, but nice to meet you,” implying he had met the person before.

Gonzalez then cuts to the “Shake It Off” singer dancing with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end behind her.

The former Netflix personality included a clip Swift introducing Kelce to a friend he seemingly had already met.

Per the former Netflix personality, Swift was singing along to her own song “Karma” as her collaborator Ice Spice performed it onstage: “Stretching like a goddamn acrobat / Me and karma vibe like that. … Yeah!”

The real lyrics say “flexing” instead of “stretching,” so this may have been a misinterpretation on Gonzalez’s part. She cautioned in her caption that her interpretations may not be 100 percent accurate.

“Disclaimer: Lip reading is not a reliable form of communication, all statements are alleged,” she wrote on both her TikTok and Instagram.

In another clip, Swift is seen facing the stage with Kelce behind her, and the “Cruel Summer” songstress allegedly tells her beau, “That was the best thing that’s happened tonight. Sorry, I’m drunk,” and giggles.

Kelce’s response is not seen, as his head was down by his girlfriend’s shoulder at that point. However, he likely didn’t mind, as he recently chugged a beer at his honorary college graduation.

Gonzalez concludes her montage with footage of Swift and Kelce walking in front of the stage, cheering, clapping and hollering.

The former reality competition contestant shared in her TikTok caption that she is a fan of the “Lover” singer, writing, “check on your swifties, were not okay.”

Page Six has reached out to Swift’s rep on the lip reader’s commentary but did not immediately hear back.

Several of Swift’s fans praised Gonzalez — who often interprets other celeb interactions such as Selena Gomez’s animated gossip session with the “Blank Space” singer at the 2024 Golden Globes — with one writing, “I love your posts!!!”

Another added, “so cool to know what she is saying. You narrated that so good especially the cheering part,” while a third joked, “You might be the most dangerous person online.”

A fourth, who could not get enough of the power couple’s content, chimed in, “More Tayvis Coachella clips pleeeeeease!!!”

Fans were happily surprised to see Swift and Kelce show up at the festival on Saturday and having a great time together.

The pair first popped up on the side of a stage to see Jack Antonoff’s band, Bleachers, perform, at which point they danced and caressed each other.

They then went to see Ice Spice hit the stage, where Swift took a photo with “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Teresa Giudice while in the audience.

The “Bad Blood” singer and Kelce were also spotted making out at the Neon Carnival afterparty while “Vanderpump Rules” star James Kennedy deejayed. It is unclear whether they will return for Weekend 2 of the festival.

“Don’t ever help nobody up. I don’t need your help.”- Shaquille O’Neal reveals the lesson Michael Jordan taught him after a hard foul!

There weren’t many teams that managed to beat Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the 90s’ during their run, but the Orlando Magic, led by a young Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway, are one of the rare ones to do it. It was an unbelievable experience for a young Shaq, as he shared what MJ taught him at that time.

    Overcoming the GOAT

When  retired for the first time in 1993, the NBA’s landscape opened completely. The Rockets would take advantage of the opportunity and win in 1994, but Michael couldn’t stay away from the game too long.

Jordan would return near the end of the 1995 regular season and instantly make the Bulls the team to beat again. But on his path back to the Finals, MJ and the Bulls would come across a heavy task. The Orlando Magic, led by a young , Penny Hardaway, and a supporting cast full of quality players like Horace Grant, Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott, etc.

The Bulls might have been the favorites, but the Magic had them on the ropes, and they could feel it. Shaq explained how he was terrified of MJ and the possibility of getting dunked on:

“Before the game, I was terrified, but to relieve pressure off that, I ain’t gotta guard him.

The second thing I said, can’t let him dunk on me. That’s not gonna happen. It was a play when he’s coming baseline. I had to touch him up. Because I’m not getting dunked on, I’ll never live that down from family members, homeboys, barbershops. That’ll be a poster forever.” Shaquille O’Neal, NBA Tonight

And Shaq would hold true to this word, fouling MJ hard at the rim at one point in order to stop him from dunking. O’Neal tried to be a good sportsman, but Michael taught him a valuable lesson at that moment:

“But Mike also taught me something very valuable. When I go to help him up, he said: ‘Don’t ever help nobody up. Great foul. I don’t do that. I don’t need your help. But I’m coming back, don’t you worry!’ Mike is the guy that taught me how to get to the next level.” Shaquille O’Neal, NBA Tonight

Sure enough, the Magic would go on to bounce out the Bulls in six games, with a 22-year-old Shaq averaging 24.3ppg and 13.2rpg for the series. The heroic effort of Michael Jordan (31.0 ppg, 6.5 RPG, 3.7 apg) wasn’t enough to get the Bulls back to the promised land that year.

But that Magic team was a bit too green for the ring, getting swept by the Rockets in the 1995 Finals, getting a bit too relaxed after bouncing MJ out. The rest is history, as Michael and the Bulls went on to achieve another three-peat while the Magic squad fell apart. At least Shaq took Jordan’s advice and went on to win his own rings in Los Angeles and Miami, becoming one of the most dominant forces the league has ever seen.
