Donna Kelce still feels regret over her answer when asked about her son Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift during an interview last month.

The Kelce matriarch — who is also the mother of Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce — opened up to WSJ. Magazine about her son’s budding romance with the 12-time Grammy winner.

During her sit-down interview on the “Today” show in October, Donna seemingly came off unenthusiastic about Swift, when in reality, she simply didn’t want to overstep in oversharing.

Once the interview had aired, Travis immediately called his mom to assure her that she did a good job after she said spending time with Swift was “okay.”

While she still looks back in regret over her underwhelming answer, Donna didn’t hold back gushing over her son’s romance with the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker.

“I can tell you this,” she told the magazine. “He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time …. God bless him. He shot for the stars!”

During her interview with co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb last month, the famed football mom said she could not “tell” if the pair were a “budding romance” because it is “just too new.”

She also tried to remain mum when asked about what it was like cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end with the “Anti-Hero” singer.

“I don’t like to talk about it. It’s just one of those things where everyone saw me,” Donna, 70, said. “I was in the boxes with her. It’s another thing that’s amped up my life.”

Even though the Kansas City Chiefs player acknowledged Swift would “hate [him] for saying this,” he described having “somebody playing Cupid” and convincing the pop star to reach out to him.

“There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner,” the “Catching Kelce” alum said. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out.”

“Everybody knows I’m a family guy,” he later added. “Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”

Travis Kelce is ensuring he has no bad blood with Taylor Swift’s father, days after meeting him for the first time.

The Kansas City Chief’s tight end spoke at length about his trip to Argentina to visit Swift this past weekend on his podcast “New Heights” with brother and fellow NFL player Jason Kelce.

“How does it feel to officially be the guy on the Chiefs?” Jason inquired. During her Saturday night performance, Swift sweetly changed the lyrics to her song “Karma” to reference her new beau. “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” she sang.

“You mean ‘Karma’?” Travis replied. “Yeah no, I had no clue that — well, I might have had a little bit of a clue, but definitely when I heard it come out of her mouth, still shocked me… I was like oh… she really just said that?”

“You were so shocked you left Scott [Swift] hanging. Scott’s over here looking for a high-five,” Jason joked, referencing a video that went viral of the two men reacting to the lyric change. In the video, Scott can be seen trying to give Travis a celebratory high-five.

“Yeah, Mr. Swift, I apologize, big guy. Aw man, I missed that. I never miss a high-five, too. Big high-five guy! It’s the most electric thing you can do at an event… So sorry,” he reiterated.

Jason noted that Scott, historically a Philadelphia Eagles fan, was wearing a Kansas City Chiefs lanyard at Swift’s Saturday concert. Jason is currently a center for the Eagles. “You’re gonna let this man’s devilishly good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott?” Jason teased.

“I might have persuaded him at dinner the night before when I met him,” Travis clarified.

“Yeah, Mr. Swift, I apologize, big guy. Aw man, I missed that. I never miss a high-five, too. Big high-five guy. It’s the most electric thing you can do at an event… So sorry.”

Travis shared that he arrived in Argentina on Friday, with hopes to watch Swift perform her second of three shows in the capital city. Swift is currently on the international leg of her Eras Tour. The Friday show was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

“She wasn’t too happy about it,” Travis revealed. “She kind of prides herself on performing through like weather or rain and things like that, but when it’s unsafe to her and her crew and everybody in the stadium, you got to do what you got to do. But it wasn’t canceled — it was postponed, as she noted.”

The couple was spotted out to dinner after Swift shared with her followers the news about her concert.

“Really the only night we had a chance to go to dinner was the night the show got postponed, so we didn’t wanna just go and have a blast throughout the city like we didn’t care about the show. So, we made sure we stayed in the hotel and kind of kept to ourselves,” Travis said of his downtime with Swift after they grabbed dinner.

“It’s crazy how many sold-out shows she has,” Travis gushed. “And these venues that she keeps going to… I was blown away… It was an electric crowd, too. And for everybody who went to the shows, Taylor was on record saying it was one of her favorite places to play. So hats off to you guys for showing the love.”

“For those of you who haven’t seen all the videos of me on your TikTok and your Instagram feed, I was enjoying myself down there in Buenos Aires. The show was even more electric, knowing I had a little bit more to enjoy for… Taylor absolutely ripped it. She killed it. And it looked like she was having some fun up there,” he continued.

Taylor Swift has a “blank space” — and she’s writing Travis Kelce’s name.

The “Shake It Off” singer and Kansas City Chiefs football player first sparked dating rumors in September after Swift attended a handful of Kelce’s games.

Kelce previously revealed that he invited Swift to attend one of his games while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show podcast, teasing that he “threw the ball in her court” after seeing her perform at Arrowhead Stadium during her Eras Tour in July.

The two confirmed their romance in October as they stepped out holding hands at a Saturday Night Live afterparty. A source told PEOPLE the pair are still in the “super, super early days” of getting to know one another but are “having fun.” “They’re just hanging out, and there’s no pressure,” the source added.

Though the two have kept the details of their romance pretty private, Kelce has talked about Swift in various interviews.

A few weeks after attending Swift’s Eras Tour concert, Kelce revealed that he actually tried — and failed — to meet Swift after the show.

“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Kelce said on his podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, co-hosted by his brother Jason. He added that he wasn’t able to execute his plan to deliver a personalized bracelet to Swift.

“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”

As dating rumors between Kelce and Swift picked up in September, his brother Jason pleaded the fifth while speaking with Prime’s Thursday Night Football panel.

“I’ve seen these rumors. I cannot comment,” Jason told panelist and retired NFL star Tony Gonzalez, who asked Kelce to address on the issue on behalf of his 15-year-old daughter.

“Ever since Catching Kelce everybody’s been infatuated with Travis’ love life,” Jason said, referring to his brother’s short-lived reality dating show. “I don’t really know what’s going on there, but I know Travis is having fun and we’ll see what happens with whoever he ends up with.”

During ESPN’s SportsCenter, reporter Adam Schefter alluded to Kelce and Swift dating rumors as he discussed the player with anchor Kevin Negandhi by playfully using Swift’s song titles.

“Clearly, Travis Kelce, at this point in time, is trying to Shake It Off and get back out there. He knows how much he’s needed and that he’s The Man.”

“It was a little bit of a Cruel Summer for Travis Kelce with that knee injury but he can see the Daylight, Kevin,” he continued. “He looks like he’s Ready For It. And Travis [Kelce] is now tracking to play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, despite the fact that he was just limited today.”

The jokes kept coming as NFL Network’s Rich Eisen dropped in plenty of Swift references while discussing the tight end ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars game.

A clip of the show was later shared in a joint Instagram post with Eisen and the NFL Network. Naturally, Eisen kept the Swift puns coming as he captioned the upload, “Look what you made me do, @killatrav.”

The Chiefs star was a good sport about the running joke as he playfully commented, “Well played Rich…. Well played 👏🏻😂.”

September 19, 2023: Travis Kelce talks about his dating dealbreakers

During an episode of the Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast, Kelce briefly opened up about his love life. Though he didn’t address Swift during the interview, he did mention some of his dating dealbreakers.

“High maintenance, I’m out the door,” the NFL star shared, and added that the person he dates has “to be humble, grounded.” It also helps if the prospective paramour is kind like his mom, Donna Kelce, he said.

“My mother is an absolute angel so I kind of base who I look at based off of how kind-hearted and sweet my mother is,” he said. “You gotta have some sort of sweetness to you.”

September 20, 2023: Jason Kelce jokes Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift dating rumors are ‘100 percent true’

During an appearance on DeCamara & Ritchie on Audacy’s SportsRadio 94 WIP, Kelce’s brother Jason was once again asked about Swift dating rumors. After previously being coy about the dating rumors, Jason said that the report was “100% true,” which led to the internet — and the hosts themselves — thinking it was fully confirmed.

However, the audio from Jason’s interview shows he immediately says he’s “joking” about having the insider information on his brother’s rumored romance. “It’s hard to answer because I don’t really know a lot about Travis’ love life,” Jason told the radio hosts. “I try to keep his business kind of his business, stay out of that world.”

But, he continued, “having said that, man, I think they’re doing great and I think it’s all 100% true, and I hope this thing goes a mile — no, I’m joking, I don’t know what’s happening.”

September 21, 2023: Travis Kelce sets the record straight on asking Taylor Swift out

Shortly after, Kelce said the record straight during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, noting how he “threw the ball in [Swift’s] court” by inviting her to see him play at Arrowhead Stadium, where she previously performed at during her Eras Tour.

The NFL star Kelce didn’t clarify if he and Swift had met in person, but he said he told her, “I’ve seen you rock the stage at Arrowhead [Stadium]. You might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.”

September 24, 2023: Taylor Swift attends Travis Kelce’s game

Swift threw Swifties and football fans for a loop as she made a surprise appearance at Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24. The singer was spotted watching the game from Kelce’s suite alongside his mother Donna, where she was later captured cheering as Kelce scored a touchdown.

Following the game, the two were seen walking out together as Swift donned Kansas City Chiefs gear and Kelce rocked a blue and white denim outfit reminiscent of her 1989 album.

A source told PEOPLE that once Swift heard about the invite to attend the football game, she didn’t let a busy schedule stop her from accepting. “Taylor is very focused on work right now and hanging out with her girlfriends,” the source said. “Travis invited her to the game, and of course she said ‘yes.’”

September 25, 2023: A source tells PEOPLE that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are ‘hanging out’

A day after making headlines with their rumored romance, a source gave PEOPLE more insight into their relationship, noting that they are still in the “super, super early days” of getting to know one another.

“They’re having fun,” added the insider, noting that Swift and Kelce had met prior to her attendance at the game. “This was Taylor’s first time meeting his mom and dad, and everyone was enjoying themselves. She was super chill and low-key hanging out with his friends and family.”

The source added that after the game, Kelce “rented out a restaurant” for an intimate gathering with his friends and family, which Swift attended. “They were cute and normal, just hanging out and chatting,” added the source. “They’re just hanging out, and there’s no pressure,” said the source.

On an episode of his weekly podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, Kelce said, “I’m enjoying life and I sure as hell enjoyed this weekend,” as he reflected on his night with Swift.

“Shout out to Taylor for pulling up. That was pretty ballsy,” Kelce said as he talked to his brother Jason about how he felt having the singer in his suite during the “exciting game.”

She looked amazing and everybody was talking about her in great light,” he said, adding that the cherry on top was that “the day went perfect for Chiefs fans of course,” noting their 41-10 win over the Chicago Bears.

Elsewhere in the episode, Kelce opened up about whether Swifties can expect to hear more from him about the singer and the NFL player’s rumored romance in the future. He shared that “it is my personal life and I wanna respect both of our lives,” adding that he’ll be returning his focus to purely NFL-related content on future podcast episodes.

October 1, 2023: Taylor Swift attends Travis Kelce’s game with her friends

On Oct. 1, Swift was spotted at MetLife Stadium as Kelce’s team faced off against the New York Jets in New Jersey. The singer brought along a handful of her celebrity friends for the game, including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carptenter, Sophie Turner and Antoni Porowski.

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, TODAY debuted a Swift-themed ad between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets, using the singer’s hit song, “Welcome to New York.”

October 4, 2023: Travis Kelce discusses the NFL’s media coverage of his relationship with Taylor Swift

During an episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Kelce opened up about his thoughts on the extensive coverage the NFL broadcast has been putting on celebrities amid his rumored romance with Swift.

“Let’s get to it, is the NFL overdoing it?,” his brother asked about the celebrity coverage. “What’s your honest opinion? Take away your feelings for Taylor…” which prompted a laugh from Travis.

Kelce admitted, “I think it’s fun when they show who was at the game. I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time I think-”

“They’re overdoing it,” Jason finished, to which Kelce agreed: “They’re overdoing it a little bit for sure, especially my situation. [But] I think they’re just trying to have fun with it.”

Shortly after Kelce’s comments, the NFL released a statement to PEOPLE, defending their recent social media posts about Swift.

“We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,” the NFL said. “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”

“The vast majority of our content has remained focused on the game, our players and variety of other initiatives, including our Toy Story Funday Football alt-cast, the international games and more,” the statement concluded.

October 6, 2023: Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna, talks about hanging out with Taylor Swift

When speaking with PEOPLE in October, Donna Kelce admitted she wasn’t a Swiftie before meeting the pop singer, saying, “My era was Earth, Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan, things like that. That’s more my music.” However, she went on to add: “But obviously, talent is talent.”

During an appearance on the Got It From My Momma podcast, the NFL mom further detailed the journey her life has taken since her son was linked to Swift.

“I feel like I’m in an alternate universe, because it’s something I’ve never been involved with before,” Donna told host Jennifer Vickery Smith. “I thought it would be over at that point, but it seems to just continue, and every week just seems to trump the week before. So it’s really kind of wild, a wild ride.”

October 6, 2023: Travis Kelce says he’s ‘on top of the world’ amid Taylor Swift romance

During a team media availability, Kelce alluded to his romance with Swift saying, “As all the attention comes…it feels like I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now I’m even more on top of the world.”

In response to how he’s handling all of the new eyes on him amid the rumored relationship with Swift, Kelce said he’s “learning” how to navigate “paparazzi just taking photos from all over the place” after photographers have begun waiting for him at his Kansas City home.

The day after attending her Eras Tour film premiere in Los Angeles, Swift flew out to Kansas City to watch Kelce play at Arrowhead Stadium. The singer was seen mingling with Brittany Mahomes as well as both of Kelce’s parents.

October 14, 2023: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce hold hands in N.Y.C. after surprise SNL appearance

During SNL on Oct. 14, both Swift and Kelce made surprise appearances on the show. While Swift helped introduce Ice Spice as the musical guest, Kelce appeared in a hilarious skit about the NFL and their obsession with Taylor Swift coverage.

Following the show, the two were photographed holding hands in N.Y.C. as they attended the SNL afterparty at Catch Steak. “Taylor and Travis were there all night and they were so smiley, they were so happy,” a source told PEOPLE about the outing, noting that they were super affectionate the whole night, giving each other kisses.

“They were always connected throughout the night,” the source added. “They were super comfortable with each other. They were very cuddly; they weren’t awkward. She was really comfortable with him, and he was a total gentleman.”

October 15, 2023: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have another date night in N.Y.C.

The night after their big SNL appearances, the couple stepped out in the Big Apple again as they had dinner at the Waverly Inn restaurant. The two were seen holding hands as they left the restaurant together, with Swift wearing some subtle Reputation era boots.

October 18, 2023: Travis Kelce dishes on his SNL date night with Taylor Swift

During his podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Kelce talked about his “spectacular” visit to SNL. In addition to chatting about his NFL skit, he also talked about attending the afterparty with Swift and the hilarious internet discourse around him playing the role of security guard.

Travis told his brother that his behavior over the weekend — helping Swift in and out of the car at their various stops in New York City and holding on tight to her hand — was typical of how he acts on a date.

“I feel like whenever I’m on a date I’m always having the sense of like, I’m a man in the situation, I’m like protective, yeah for sure. You always kind of have that feeling — or that self-awareness, I guess.”

October 22, 2023: Taylor Swift attends Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs game

After attending a pregame party, Swift was spotted in the stands at Arrowhead Stadium as the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Los Angeles Chargers. The singer proudly dressed in Chiefs red, including a vintage sweatshirt and a friendship bracelet with Kelce’s number.

Swift was seen cheering for Kelce and having fun with Brittany Mahomes in the box. At one point, the ladies did a secret handshake following one of the plays. Following the game, Swift and Kelce were seen holding hands as they left the stadium together.

After Swift attended Kelce’s game, the pair was photographed hanging out with Kelce’s teammate Mecole Hardman Jr. and his girlfriend Chariah Gordon.

Gordon shared a series of photos with the group to Instagram on Oct. 23, seemingly taken at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, after the game — including one shot featuring Swift sweetly kissing Kelce on the cheek as they posed alongside Hardman and his girlfriend.

On Oct. 23, Swift and Kelce were also photographed having a date night at Argentine steakhouse Piropos in Missouri, according to photos obtained by The Daily Mail. Per the outlet, the couple arrived to the restaurant, which reportedly stayed open later than usual, in the NFL star’s Rolls Royce. After the dinner, they were seen walking out hand-in-hand and he opened the car door for her.

‘I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio,’ Swift said in a handwritten note on Instagram.

‘The safety and well being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.’

The cause of death for Ana Clara Benevides Machado, the young woman who sought medical attention at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium during Friday’s show, has not yet been announced.

The office of Rio’s public prosecutor opened a criminal investigation and said Benevides’ body was being examined.

Earlier on Saturday, Swift broke her silence remembering the fan as an ‘incredibly beautiful’ person.

‘I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,’ she wrote. ‘I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.

”I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends.
