As the story goes, Travis Kelce was driving around Los Angeles with his business managers, the Eanes brothers. They came across a billboard featuring “The Brahma Bull” that made Kelce think out loud. He said, “Man, I don’t think I’ll ever be as famous as the Rock.” While talking to The New York Times, his managers recalled responding to him, saying, “We’re like, Yes, you can.”

Eventually, his 2023 grew to be bigger than expected. In February, the tight end and his team the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl. In March, Kelce hosted SNL and starred in seven national TV commercials. Not only was his co-hosted podcast among the most popular on Spotify, but he also launched a clothing line with his team. To put the cherry on top, he also found himself dating Taylor Swift, which also helped expand his fanbase to an audience that didn’t know much about the NFL.

His managers deserve their due credit, as they are the ones who oversee a lot of what is on Kelce’s plate.

Though Travis and Jason Kelce play for different teams, they were born teammates for life.

When speaking about her latest partnership with Heluva Good!, Donna Kelce tells PEOPLE exclusively about what’s kept her family so close over the years amid her sons’ respectively busy schedules as professional NFL athletes.

“We’re very, very small. We’re tight-knit,” Donna tells PEOPLE exclusively of her brood. “We stay together and try to help each other as much as we can.”

The mother of two broke down her family tree, explaining that her brother and her husband’s sister didn’t have any children. Therefore, Donna says, it was “just the two boys” — to which she admits, “growing up they used to yell at me because they didn’t have any cousins to play with on Christmas.”

Therefore, Donna and her boys always had each other’s backs. “We stay together and try to help each other as much as we can,” she says.

However, she concedes that the extend of how much family time they get to enjoy together isn’t what it used to be due to Travis’ schedule as tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and Jason’s busy life as center for the Philadelphia Eagles with three kids.

“Obviously, football has gotten in the way and they both have their own very, very full lives,” says Donna, who’s sure to note that she’s “very, very happy that they get to enjoy the fruits of their labor.” The proud mom adds, “It’s a tough ride to get to where they are right now.”

There’s no denying that football bonds the family, despite the Kelce brothers playing for different teams. Donna’s schedule is also jam-packed, as she makes a point to travel to as many games as she can to support her sons — even if that means traveling almost 1,300 miles in less than 24 hours!

During the 2022 playoffs in January, Donna kicked off her Sunday at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium watching Jason face off against the Buccaneers — followed by a flight bound for Kansas City, where Travis played the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Football aside, Donna says “food” and “friends” are what bonds the Kelce family, since that’s what they “all have in common.” She’s sure to mention “grandchildren” as another bonding point, referencing Jason and his wife Kylie’s three daughters: Wyatt, Elliotte and Bennett.

Of course, competition also bonds the boys — in activities that span beyond the gridiron, too! “Dodgeball and golf” are some of the sports Donna lists, while recalling a few competitions that got heated during their childhood.

Among them included “who could get to the table first” and “who can sit in front of the car,” says Donna with a laugh, noting that the list “just went on and on and on.”

And while Donna says the competition “never ended” for Travis and Jason as kids, she says they’re “still just as competitive as adults today.” She explains, “I know they’re always jabbing at each other to mention who’s the best. It doesn’t stop!”

Another insider backed this, stating that Travis Kelce “truly fell in love with [Taylor].”

“He’s not using her for fame,” the insider recently stated, adding, “But there’s no denying the timing was perfect. Their relationship pushed his plan into overdrive.”

The source went on to explain that “they’re so good for each other” because “they’re both super competitive and ambitious.”

Swift and Travis reportedly had their first argument over the festive period, with the football star left upset over Kansas City’s defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day. Travis reportedly snapped at Swift but later apologised.

The Kelce brothers don’t seem phased by the alleged division, and have continued to pump out episodes of their podcast, ‘New Heights’, despite the “awkward” vibes.

Travis and the Chiefs faced the Miami Dolphins on Saturday Night Football and ran out blowout winners, while Jason with the Eagles face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.

Travis Kelce isn’t fussed about the cold, saying: “I don’t think anybody is really weighing in on weather, at least I’m not. I don’t give a rats a**.

“You just gotta stay warm on the sidelines, get a few claps in, get the hand stinging, get the blood-flow going in the hands and then just go out there and headbutt somebody man, cos that gets the blood-flow going a little bit more than usual.”

He added, “It’ll be a cold one and you know what, hopefully that slows down the speed on the Miami offense. That’s world class speed right there.”

The Philadelphia Eagles believe their star center Jason Kelce should make the Hall of Fame so much that in November, they posted a 27-minute video on the topic, which broke down in extreme detail why the 36-year-old belongs in Canton.

Watching that video, Kelce’s younger brother Travis got emotional.

On the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, the brothers discussed a since-deleted post on X, formerly Twitter, by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Reuben Frank in which he noted that Kelce is the 23rd offensive lineman in NFL history to make 1st Team All-Pro at least five times and the Pro Bowl at least 7 times.

The reason the tweet was deleted? Frank pointed out that every other offensive lineman on the list was in the Hall of Fame except for Jim Tyrer, who murdered his wife in 1980. Many users found the tweet to be in bad taste.

Jason didn’t mind the tweet, since everything in it was factual, although Travis called it “the darkest LeBron stat of all time,” referencing the “New Heights” nickname for obscure statistics.

Getting back to Frank’s larger point, however, Jason said the writer has been backing his Hall of Fame candidacy for a few years by citing a variety of statistics.

For his part, Travis prefers the Eagles’ official version.

“There’s nothing better than what the Eagles posted about you,” he said. “The 30-minute highlight video of why Jason Kelce transcended the game of football and why you should undoubtedly be in the Hall of Fame? Dude, it was f****** unbelievable. I cried. And there isn’t even a moment when you should be crying. It was great, man.”

In the video, Eagles analyst Fran Duffy breaks down what makes Jason so special. He analyzed a number of specific plays Kelce brings to the table, but the biggest one was the run-pass option (RPO), which Kelce’s unique set makes possible for the Eagles.

“When people talk about hall of fame credentials, the question is asked: ‘Can you tell the story of this era of the NFL without talking about this player?’” Duffy narrates. “Well you can’t tell the story of modern football without talking about RPOs, and you can’t tell the story of RPOs without talking about the Eagles both introducing them to the league and riding them to a Super Bowl. And you can’t tell the story about all that Eagles success without talking about Jason Kelce and the impact he’s had on those schemes.”

Duffy broke down how Kelce’s gravity affects the Eagles’ offense, as well as his unique size (Kelce is the second-lightest offensive lineman since 2001 to take part in the NFL combine), which benefits his footwork and balance.

Additionally, Kelce is one of the most key components to the Eagles’ quarterback sneak—a play so effective, the NFL might have to ban it.

Kelce also impresses during screen plays, where he had been called for just two holds in 920 plays prior to this season.

“Watching Kelce work in the screen game is like watching Michael Jordan with the ball in crunch time,” Duffy narrates in the video. “He is Chris Rock with a mic. He is Picasso with a brush. There is nobody better than him at this.”

Jason asked Travis on “New Heights” whether it was the screen part of the video that made him weep.

“It was. It was the screens,” Travis said. “You literally, the RPOs man. They wouldn’t be the same without Jason Kelce.”

Jason and the Eagles open their postseason on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round on Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

Owning a piece of Dream Team history doesn’t come cheap.

Michael Jordan’s jersey from Team U.S.A.’s historic 1992 Olympics run hammered down for more than $3 million on Thursday morning, NBC Sports reported. The signed and photo-matched top was worn by MJ during the semifinal round against Lithuania on August 6 of that year, during which His Airness scored 21 points with four assists and three rebounds.

 

The jersey was brought to auction by Goldin in collaboration with Jordan’s former teammate Karl Malone, who had amassed a collection of signed Dream Team jerseys and shoes from every player. But the MJ version smoked all the others, with the next most expensive being Larry Bird’s jersey, which received a final bid of $360,000. Jordan’s shoes were also the most coveted of that bunch, selling for $420,000.

“Working with Karl Malone and bringing this extraordinary Dream Team Collection to auction has been a major highlight of my career in collectibles,” Ken Goldin, the company’s founder and executive chairman, said in a statement.

The 1992 Olympics were the first time professional athletes were allowed to participate in the competition, leading to the building of Team USA’s basketball Dream Team, which alongside Jordan included players like Bird, Scottie Pippen, Magic Johnson, and Charles Barkley. The iconic lineup is largely considered to be the greatest team in any sport ever, making mementos from their Summer Games especially coveted.

Prior to this most recent Goldin auction, a Jordan Dream Team jersey had never been photo-matched. Yet this time around, the jersey was able to be matched by three different companies, making it the most valuable MJ jersey, according to Goldin. It’s also now the most expensive piece of Olympics clothing ever sold, NBC Sports noted, beating out Mike Eruzione’s jersey from the 1980 Olympics hockey finals (sold for a mere $657,250 in 2013).

The Dream Team jersey is in some good company, in terms of Jordan basketball paraphernalia sold at auction. Earlier this year, his 1998 NBA Finals sneakers broke a record when they hammered down for $2.2 million, and last year one of his Last Dance jerseys sold for a record $10.1 million. While this jersey didn’t reach that same threshold, one collector must feel pretty great about adding it to their stash.
