Kansas City Chiefs fans don’t have to worry about the future of head coach Andy Reid for the time being.

Reid and the team have agreed to an extension, the Chiefs announced Monday.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network provided details of the contract, noting Reid will be the league’s highest-paid coach:

 

The Chiefs also announced contract extensions for president Mark Donovan and general manager Brett Veach.

The team did not specify the length of the extensions, but Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said the new contracts would allow Reid, Donovan and Veach to stay with Kansas City “for many years to come.”

Some wondered whether 65-year-old Reid might ride off into the sunset in the event Kansas City won Super Bowl LVIII. His 258 regular-season wins are fourth-most all time, and claiming a third title put him in rarefied air. In short, his legacy as a coaching legend is firmly cemented.

But Reid didn’t sound like a coach who was close to retirement in the immediate aftermath of the Chiefs’ triumph.

 

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones also reported before the Super Bowl that Reid “is in line to get a raise almost no matter the outcome of Sunday night’s game,” assuming he returned to the sideline.

Sportico reported in November that Reid was earning $11.5 million annually, making him the eighth-highest-paid coach in the NFL. The highest-paid coach (Bill Belichick, $25 million) is no longer in the league, but Reid certainly had a case to paid as much if not more than the $18 million salary Sean Payton is collecting.

An even more lucrative contract obviously provided Reid with plenty of reasons to stay on the Kansas City sideline. The opportunity to pull off something never once achieved was undoubtedly enticing as well.

No team has ever won three straight Super Bowls, and the Chiefs have made it clear that’s the target for 2024.

However it’s not just Travis feeling the Swift effect, it’s taking mom Donna along for the ride too, and the 71-year-old can expect to be busy in the coming months.

A source close to the Kelce family has informed The U.S. Sun that several sponsors are queuing up to collaborate with Mama Kelce.

Donna, a former banking executive, has already been working with the likes of Pillsbury, KIND snacks, and Barefoot wine.

Insiders claim that Donna has been approached by investors to launch her nationwide Mama Kelce cookie brand, with a substantial $5 million budget in the offing.

A tearful Jason Kelce thanked his wife Kylie Kelce for her support on Monday during an emotional speech announcing his retirement from the NFL.

Kelce, 36, announced his plans to retire during a press conference in Philadelphia attended by Kylie, 31, his brother Travis Kelce, and his parents Donna and Ed Kelce.

Throughout the 40-minute speech, Jason recalled a number of pivotal moments from throughout his 13-year professional football career. One of the most important, he said, was meeting Kylie at a 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Christmas Party.

“I won’t forget the Eagles Christmas party in 2014 and heading out afterwards with a bunch of my teammates to Buffalo Billiards where my life would change forever,” Jason said. “That night, I’d meet my future wife.”

Jason broke down into tears as he recalled laying eyes on Kylie for the very first time.

“I still remember the moment she walked through the door,” Jason said, choking up as he continued to speak. “The first instance is burned in my retina. It was like she glided through the opening, an aura around her.”

The seven-time NFL Pro Bowler went on to remember his first conversation with his future wife that night. “Then she started talking and I thought, man, is this what love feels like?” Jason recalled.

“She was beautiful, smart, serious, yet playful. I knew it right away,” he said.

“I think it’s no coincidence I enjoyed the best year of my career with Kylie by my side,” Jason said.

The couple got married in April 2018.

From then onward, Jason’s career appeared revitalized as he made the NFL Pro Bowl each of his final five seasons. Jason and the Eagles won their only Super Bowl in 2018 and made the championship again in 2022, when the team fell short to his brother Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs.

During those years, Kylie and Jason welcomed three daughters together: Bennett, 11 months, Elliotte, 2½, and Wyatt, 4.

Jason’s retirement comes less than a month after he and his family flew to Orlando, Fla., where he was honored at the NFL Pro Bowl for a final time.
