“I don’t understand what’s going on in the replay center, to be honest,” James said. “D-Lo clearly gets hit in the face on the drive. What the f— do we have a replay center … it doesn’t make sense. It makes no sense. It bothers me.”

James left the press conference after that.

Paul Pierce wonders if Lakers’ LeBron James voted him as the GOAT

    Paul Pierce has a theory…

During a recent poll conducted by The Athletic, it turned out that former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce got a lone vote for the Greatest of All Time honor from an unnamed player.

Could that lone vote be from Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James? Pierce is not eliminating that theory.

While on Tuesday’s episode of FS1’s Undisputed, Pierce wondered about the possibility that it was the leader of the Lakers who cast that GOAT vote.

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) and Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray (27) in the first quarter during game two of the first round for the 2024 NBA playoffs at Ball Arena.

“What if LBJ voted for me?” Pierce asked Keyshawn Johnson and Skip Bayless. “I played against him, he must think something. What do you think about that? What do you think about that? We had a lot of battles. Come on now, we had some tough battles. We had some tough battles. It could have been LB.”

Was it LeBron James who voted for Paul Pierce as the GOAT?

Indeed, long before James first signed with the Lakers, he and Pierce used to have plenty of head-to-heads back in their days in the Eastern Conference when the four-time league Most Valuable Player was still suiting up for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat. James is definitely familiar with what type of a basketball player Pierce was on the court and he can’t deny that Pierce was a terrific baller and fierce competitor. After all, Pierce has an NBA ring, is a 10-time NBA All-Star, and is part of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

All that being said, it is still surprising to many to see Pierce get a vote as the greatest basketball player to ever set foot on a court. That vote must have been from someone who didn’t take the exercise too seriously. Imagine all the legends of the game that that voter had to mentally ignore in order to come down with a conclusion that Pierce is the all-time best player in basketball history. That means, that from that voter’s perspective, based on his vote, Pierce had a better career than the likes of Lakers great Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, and Tim Duncan, among others, and let alone Michael Jordan and James.

Pierce did not directly say it, but he must have been just as surprised as so many people when he learned that someone actually voted for him as the GOAT.

  • What Lakers must do to win Game 3 over Nuggets after shocking collapse

What Lakers must do to win Game 3 over Nuggets after shocking collapse

What Lakers must do to win Game 3 over Nuggets after shocking collapse

“Shocking” might be the only word in the dictionary fit to describe the Los Angeles Lakers’ 101-99 collapse against the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs. And with good reason, too.

With 7:15 left in the third quarter, LeBron James and company were given a 95.6 percent chance to send the series back to Los Angeles even.

They’d already fallen short after playing from behind for most of the second half in Game 1, but this time was different. This time, Denver was the one trailing.

After the first five minutes of the third quarter, a 19-point lead separated the Lakers from the Nuggets. Soon after that, it was 20.

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) calls for a review in the first quarter against the Denver Nuggets during game two of the first half during the 2024 NBA playoffs at Ball Arena.

The Lakers knew closing out the game would be an even bigger battle than building the lead was in the first place, but they felt ready for the challenge. Only, they weren’t.

Denver clawed its way back throughout the remainder of the half and eventually tied the contest with under a minute remaining. James missed a wide-open 3-point attempt on Los Angeles’ final possession, and then came Jamal Murray.

“A 20-point lead in this league, it’s not safe,” James said on the postgame podium. “Especially against the defending champion. We’ve got to do better, but we had our chances.”

The Lakers did. They had an entire half to stave off Nikola Jokic and Murray, but in a hostile environment, just weren’t able to get it done. In short, Game 1 proved the Lakers’ inability to win while playing from behind, and Game 2 proved the Nuggets’ ability to do that exact thing.

So, what about Game 3? How can Los Angeles knock off the defending champions after two straight losses?

The answer may seem like a simple ask, but is much more complicated. After all, a team losing 10 games in a row to another suggests a clear disparity in talent, but that’s not the case. Los Angeles has talent, with James, Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves, among others. Whether beating Denver is possible isn’t the issue.

But if the Lakers do want to steal a game, or come back in the series for that matter, they have their work cut out for them.

    Lakers must avoid cold streaks

First of all, the Lakers should get some credit. After being swept by the Nuggets a year ago, they showed some promise over the first two games of this series. It didn’t look like Los Angeles was out of the reigning champs’ league, especially in Game 2.

If the Lakers wants to steal Game 3 at home, they will certainly have to bring the same level of offense they did on Monday night—well, at least in the first three quarters. Before the fourth quarter commenced, Davis had north of 30 points, Russell was shooting the lights out and James was making circus and-1s.

The 20-point lead Los Angeles built wasn’t luck by any means. But neither was the collapse.

The Lakers went cold as the Nuggets found their stride, victim to a 14-5 run entering the fourth quarter. Ball Arena began to buzz again after it was silenced, and by the the crowd it was at its loudest, it Los Angeles that went silent.

Step one for the Lakers is achieving that same offensive production without a cold streak. Yes, they showed they were capable of shutting down Jokic for periods of time, but between the other weapons Denver has and their veteran experience, going cold is never an option—especially down the stretch. Davis has played a huge role in Los Angeles’ success this season, so him notching another 30-point performance is almost going to be required for Los Angeles to beat the Nuggets.

    And then there’s Russell.

Russell lost his favor with Lakers faithful a year ago after a large disparity between his shooting abilities in the regular season and playoffs. Where he was an X-factor in the regular season in transition and behind the arc, he wasn’t nearly as impactful in the postseason.

That was the case again in Game 1, but in Game 2, Russell’s hot streak to begin the game allowed the Lakers to get out to a strong start and build a lead. Russell called his own shot after the first contest, stating his “excitement” to hit the floor and prove himself, and that he did. He finished Game 2 with 23 points on 7-11 shooting, and if Los Angeles wants to compete and get a win on its home floor, he’ll need to perform similarly.

The Lakers are allergic to beating the Nuggets.

Lakers, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Nuggets, Magic Johnson

On Monday evening, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers suffered their tenth (!) straight loss to the Denver Nuggets and went down 0-2 in their current first round playoff series vs the reigning NBA champions by blowing a 20-point second half lead and ultimately falling victim to a fallaway jump shot from Jamal Murray at the buzzer.

The Lakers played about as well as they could have for the first two and a half quarters of this game, as the team got a vintage performance from Anthony Davis and also saw James turn back the clock for parts of the first and fourth quarters en route to what looked like a tied series heading back to Los Angeles.

Lakers, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Nuggets, Magic Johnson

Instead, James missed a wide open three with under twenty seconds remaining that would have put the Lakers ahead, and Murray cruised down to the other end of the court and hit an insanely difficult jumper in front of his bench, which Davis then promptly crashed into.

One person who was so devastated by the loss that it took him a full 12 hours to articulate his emotions was none other than franchise legend Magic Johnson, who took to X, the social media platform formerly referred to as Twitter, to express his thoughts on Tuesday afternoon.

“Last night I was so devastated I couldn’t even tweet… An unbelievable shot by Jamal Murray, and an outstanding comeback by the Nuggets,” wrote Johnson.

Magic then wrote another tweet breaking down what he thought went wrong from the Lakers’ perspective.

“The Lakers have nobody to blame but themselves. They did everything they were supposed to do but win the game! AD and LeBron both did their part, they got scoring help from Russell, and they still lost,” wrote the Hall of Famer.

    An inevitable collapse
Although they went up by 20, there was never a point during the Lakers vs Nuggets game on Monday where the LA lead felt completely safe. Watching the Lakers play throughout the second half was like watching a structure on the verge of collapse slowly begin to buckle, as the Denver avalanche was inevitable.

LeBron James Gets Real On His Return To Crypto.com Arena For Game 3

LeBron James Gets Real On His Return To Crypto.com Arena For Game 3

LeBron James opens up on returning to Crypto.com for NBA playoffs.

On the eve of a must-win game for the Lakers, 39-year-old LeBron James spoke candidly on his return to the Crypto.com arena for the first time this postseason. In a chat with the media, James admitted that he’s excited to see the home fans again for the first time in weeks.

“We already know what we’re gonna get from our home fans. I feel like it’s been forever since we’ve played here, to be honest… Hopefully, they’re excited because we’re looking forward to it.”

The Lakers were 28-14 at home this season, the fourth-best record in the West.

    LeBron James

With a classic stadium and one of the loudest fanbases in the league, it’s not an easy feat to beat the Lakers on their home court. As a franchise rich with history and lore, the Lakers have enjoyed plenty of historically great moments on their court and they are hoping to pull off a miracle tomorrow against the defending champions.

In Los Angeles, the Lakers just seem to play with more energy and life, and they’ll need a lot more of both to have any shot of beating the Nuggets in Game 3. While LeBron James and Anthony Davis have both been holding their own, the rest of the supporting cast has not stepped up at all outside of D’Angelo Russell. So far, veteran guard Taurean Prince is the only bench player to score any points in the series and he scored just 6 in the loss on Monday.

In short, the Lakers must be better if they want to steal Game 3 and avoid a clean sweep in the first round. Being back in the Crypto.com arena should help them finally get a win, but it won’t be easy to pull one out against this team and the 2x MVP.

The Last Dance For LeBron James?
With the King at 39 years old now, it’s a very real possibility that these next two games are the last of his career. As an NBA free agent this summer, LeBron’s future is entirely unknown right now and only he has all the power to choose his next path.

With averages of 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game this season, LeBron is clearly still one of the best players in the game, and the Lakers are more reliant on him than ever to keep their offense running smoothly and efficiently.

Unfortunately, with limited options on the perimeter, the Lakers can only get so far and LeBron may be trying in vain to force another lengthy playoff run. If they lose in the first round or get swept, it could lead to drastic changes across the roster and even LeBron may re-think his NBA loyalties.

With so much at stake this summer, the Lakers need to do everything they can to win Game 3 and LeBron expects the fans to show up in droves to support their team. If they can win at least one or two games against the Nuggets, it will show progress toward making up ground in the West. If not, then this final stand at Crypto.com arena could be one of the last for LeBron James and it’s far from the ending he deserves.

Carmelo Anthony Reveals Heartfelt Origins of His Close Bond with LeBron James

It is common knowledge that Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are close friends in the NBA. However, Anthony has now disclosed the origins of their friendship, which dates back to their adolescent years.

As their off-court friendship continued to develop unaffected by competitive rivalry, they engaged in numerous on-court confrontations over the years. During an appearance on the Shotime program “All the Smoke,” Melo recounted the events that transpired during their high school years. Expectations surrounding the two teenage prospects had already generated a rivalry between them at the time. “At the time of my arrival at Oak Hill Academy, LeBron was a student there from the previous year.” I thought to myself, “I must play against him; it’s on the schedule.” “We must ensure its success,” Anthony advised. “Once we arrive at the hotel following the prime-time shootout and receive the jersey, Melo, are you present? Yeah! Additionally, it was All-Star weekend in Philadelphia. Furthermore, we spent hours seated on the steps prior to that contest.

“Both of us know nothing about the other; you know nothing about me.” After that moment, we simply felt as though we came from comparable origins; we both grew up in the hood and shared a broken family home. As a result, we became acquainted prior to basketball. “I was in search of a relationship akin to brotherhood.”

Since that momentous first encounter, the two individuals have maintained a strong friendship. In 2003, much adversity surrounded the prediction of the first overall pick in the draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers ultimately selected LeBron, while Melo was at third overall and was selected by the Denver Nuggets. After nearly twenty years have passed, the acquaintances are once again colleagues and will line up for the Los Angeles Lakers in the same lineup for the upcoming season. Finally, after much anticipation, Anthony and James have reached a juncture where their paths converge.
