Anthony Davis Claims He Will Absolutely Do Everything To Keep LeBron James On The Lakers

LeBron James has a big decision to make with regard to his future this offseason and Anthony Davis hopes to convince him to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers. After their elimination from the playoffs at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, Davis was asked if he would recruit James to stay with the Lakers.

“Absolutely, I feel like we complement each other, we have done something special together,” Davis said. “Good thing about it, I’m going to be with him all summer, so have a lot of conversations and things like that. He know how I feel about him… If he kind of asks my opinion or whenever we talk about it, I’m obviously going to try to recruit him back.”

    (starts at 2:04 mark):

Davis and James will be spending a lot of the NBA offseason together as they are on Team USA’s roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics. I am sure the big man will try his best to convince the 20-time All-Star to extend his stay in Los Angeles.

Davis also mentioned that he would support LeBron no matter what he decides to do. The 31-year-old stated James wants to win championships in what little time he has left in the league and believes they can win together on the Lakers.

It was just last season, of course, that Davis and James led LA all the way to the Western Conference Finals. They were one of the final four left standing but got swept by the Nuggets.

Denver then eliminated LA once again this season in five games and it’s clear changes need to be made if that script is to be flipped. Davis averaged 27.8 points, 15.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 0.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game in this series against the Nuggets and James played well too, but it still wasn’t enough, so a roster revamp of sorts is needed.

The Lakers do have the assets to pull off a big move for a star and it will be interesting to see what they plan to do. Those plans might well determine what James does as well.

LeBron has a player option worth $51.4 million for 2024-25 and he is expected to opt out of that. He would then be free to go wherever he pleases and if the Lakers’ front office isn’t able to put in place moves to significantly improve the team, he might just pack his bags.

LeBron declined to comment about his future with the Lakers during his press conference when asked if Game 5 was his last outing for the franchise. He was never going to give a clear answer at this point, so it wasn’t a surprise. If I had to make a prediction, though, I think he will end up staying.

The Lakers Will Also Reportedly Go To Great Lengths To Keep LeBron James in LA

While Davis will be recruiting James during the summer, the team itself seems to have made it clear they’ll do whatever it takes to keep him around as well. The Lakers are reportedly open to offering LeBron a three-year, $164 million max extension and drafting Bronny James.

While the size and length of that deal might seem a bit much for a 39-year-old, the fact is LeBron isn’t like most men of that age. He just averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the regular season and certainly has gas left in the tank.

If the Lakers offer him that deal, draft Bronny, and make some good moves, then LeBron wouldn’t really have a reason to leave. You would think his family would ideally prefer him to stay as well, as they are now well-settled in LA.

Michael Jordan is still the greatest of all time in the eyes of NBA players, but his lead over LeBron James is narrowing.

On Monday, The Athletic released the results of its annual player poll, and 45.9 percent of the 133 players who responded regarding the GOAT question picked His Airness. That was followed by James at 42.1 percent and Kobe Bryant at 9.8 percent

Sam Amick of The Athletic noted Jordan’s lead over James is much smaller than it was in the same poll in 2019 (73 percent to 11.9 percent) and 2023 (58.3 percent to 33 percent). While part of that can be explained by younger players entering the league who grew up watching James and are only familiar with Jordan through highlights, some of the players who picked the King discussed their rationale.

“I’d say LeBron,” one player said. “Just to be able to do it for 20 years, it’s insane. I think it’s more of a longevity thing that you have to look at there, and (how) still every year he’s playing at the highest level. With the highest expectations (placed on him), he had everything to lose in terms of coming into the league.

“It would’ve been very easy for him to underachieve and not meet those expectations, I think he’s far surpassed them, all of them, somehow. … Being on the floor, the closer you are to the game, the more of a sense (you get) for how great LeBron is, how he sees things, how he talks. His impact on the game, his gravity on the game is felt.”

Amick noted those who voted for James consistently pointed to his longevity, which isn’t surprising.

After all, he is 39 years old and just completed his 21st season in the league. While he may not be the same player he was at his peak, he still made the All-Star Game for the 20th time in his career this season and helped lead the Los Angeles Lakers to the playoffs by averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

Nikola Jokić and Luka Dončić were the only other players in the league to average at least 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds this season.

That longevity allowed him to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record last year, further cementing his legacy as an all-time great.

“Who would I draft in an all-time draft?” one player said. “That’s the way I look at it, you know what I’m saying? Some people look at it like, ‘Who do I want taking the last shot?’ Blah, blah, blah, all this other sh–. But in an all-time draft, I’m choosing LeBron. Why? I get 20 years of greatness, and I get somebody who plays one through five (point guard through center). And let me just say, the person I choose No. 2 would be Shaq (O’Neal), the most dominant player of all time. So in my GOAT debate, I would go 1-2 like that. And this is coming from a Kobe (Bryant) fan.”

    Another player highlighted that longevity.

“(LeBron) for sure,” he said. “I think him being able to literally do everything and win (titles) with so many different organizations (the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Lakers) and also having the most points in his career, along with figuring out how to have longevity in his career. Everybody’s looking to have longevity, and he figured it out. He figured it out at the highest level. It doesn’t make any sense.”

James is still chasing Jordan in titles (six to four), NBA Finals MVPs (six to four) and league MVPs (five to four), but even that might underscore the difference between the two.

Jordan’s peak might never be matched. Even retiring for nearly two seasons to play baseball didn’t prevent him from winning six championships during an eight-year span and taking over both the league and popular culture as a whole.

But he played 14 seasons that were interrupted by multiple retirements. James has continued to play at an incredible level across 21 different campaigns and doesn’t look like he will be falling from the ranks of the league’s All-Stars anytime soon.

    Jordan’s peak or James’ longevity?

It is a question that has split the NBA community, including the players.

  • Review: On ‘Tortured Poets,’ Taylor Swift Continues to Spill Her Own Tea (and the Flavor Is Mostly English Breakfast)

Review: On ‘Tortured Poets,’ Taylor Swift Continues to Spill Her Own Tea (and the Flavor Is Mostly English Breakfast)

On her first album since breaking up with English actor Joe Alwyn, Swift turns another page in her personal diary and bares it all.

Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' album cover.

If the song title “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” doesn’t say it all, wait until you hear the lyrics.

“Were you sent by someone who wanted me dead?/Did you sleep with a gun underneath our bed?/Were you writing a book? Were you a sleeper cell spy?/In 50 years will all this be declassified?,” Taylor Swift sings on track 14 from The Tortured Poets Department. “I would’ve died for your sins/Instead I just died inside/And you deserve prison/But you won’t get time.”

It’s clear songwriting is Swift’s specialty, and her new album features her superb storytelling. As she processes a breakup, the lyrics will hit you in the gut or smack you in the face — sometimes both on the same song. As she turns another page in her personal diary on her 11th album, Swift bares it all, and the songs reveal that she has been going through it. She drops f-bombs, sings about crying on several tracks and other lyrics point to depression (“What if I told you I’m back?/The hospital was a drag/Worst sleep that I ever had”). On the upbeat pop bop “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” she says it plainly: “I’m so depressed, I act like it’s my birthday, every day.” There are also multiple tracks where she’s in so much pain she compares the suffering to dying.

    Taylor Swift BETH GARRABRANT/REPUBLIC RECORDS

“Sometimes I wonder if you’re gonna screw this up with me/But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave/And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen,” she sings on the title track. “Everyone we know understands why it’s meant to be/’Cause we’re crazy.”

Tortured Poets (and the expansion album The Anthology) is the singer’s first project since her breakup with English actor Joe Alwyn, whom she dated for six years until 2023. Alwyn was also her musical collaborator — working as a co-producer and co-writer on Folklore, sharing the 2021 album of the year Grammy with the pop star; he also worked on her follow-up project Evermore. “Smallest Man” doesn’t sound like it is about him (fellow Englishman Matt Healy maybe?) but most of the album describes the end of their love affair — Swift’s longest relationship — and the songs hint at a possible engagement and babies, from the country-tinged “But Daddy I Love Him” to the title track to “‎loml,” where she sings: “You shit-talked me under the table/Talking rings and talking cradles.”

    Taylor Swift BETH GARRABRANT/REPUBLIC RECORDS

One of the best songs is “So Long, London.” Over a soft, electropop beat, Swift is recovering as she sings about “getting color back into my face” and being “pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free.” Near the end of the song, the singer, who is now dating NFL star Travis Kelce, proclaims: “So long, London/Had a good run/A moment of warm sun/But I’m not the one.”

“Florida!!!” is also a winning track, especially thanks to Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine’s eerie and badass verse. Post Malone is also a highlight, blending vocally with Swift on the downbeat track “Fortnight,” which opens the album.

Sonically, Poets Department feels like it pays homage to Swift’s past work: “But Daddy I Love Him” could easily fit on Speak Now or Fearless; “Fortnight” and other tracks are reminiscent of Midnights, Swift’s last album; while other songs could live in her Folkore/Evermore era.

The production throughout the album is light, and some more experimental sounds would have made it better. But maybe that was done on purpose, so that the strong lyrics could do all of the talking.

BREAKING: Lakers Are Open To Offering LeBron James A $164 Million Extension And Drafting Bronny James

The Lakers are willing to give LeBron James a max extension and draft Bronny James.

Lakers Are Open To Offering LeBron James A $164 Million Extension And Drafting Bronny James

LeBron James could potentially leave the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency in the upcoming offseason, and the team seems determined to pull out all the stops to ensure he stays. As per The Athletic, the Lakers are open to giving James whatever deal he wants, even the max.

“The Lakers, team sources say, would be open to discussing any deal that involves James coming back — including even the maximum three-year, $164 million extension they can offer.”

The 39-year-old James would be 42 when that deal ends. Normally, it would be seen as a crazy move to give someone this old a three-year max deal, but LeBron has always been an exception to the norm.

James averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the 2023-24 campaign, which was his 21st in the league. Prior to this, no player in NBA history had even averaged 10.0 PPG in their 21st season.

While James would not be putting up these kinds of numbers in his 24th season, there is little reason to believe, injuries aside, that he wouldn’t be contributing at a fairly high level even at that stage. That might seem outrageous to some, but who would have thought five years ago that LeBron would be this good in 2024?

I wouldn’t knock the Lakers for giving him that kind of a deal, but if you’re LeBron, should you want it? Wanting to win more championships is a big reason why he is still playing, and if he takes a bit of a discount, it would help the Lakers build a better team around him. The 20-time All-Star has not shown a willingness to take pay cuts over the last 10 years or so, however.

The other big reason why LeBron is still playing, of course, is his son, Bronny James. The four-time MVP has expressed multiple times that he would like to play with Bronny, who has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, and as per this report, the Lakers are open to selecting him as well.

“What’s more, team sources say the Lakers are very open to the prospect of helping LeBron fulfill his dream of playing with his son Bronny by potentially drafting him.”

There remain doubts as to just how good a player Bronny can be in the NBA, but this pick really would be mostly about appeasing LeBron, rather than them having great belief in his son. It does make sense that the Lakers would be willing to go to great lengths for LeBron, as they are not going to even come close to competing for championships if he leaves in the offseason.

LeBron James Was Not Interested In Talking About His Future

As for what LeBron had to say about his future, well, he didn’t want to say much. After the Denver Nuggets knocked him out of the playoffs, he was asked if this was going to be his final season in LA and James declined to comment on his future with the Lakers.

LeBron also stated he just wants to return to his family after the first-round elimination. He is holding his cards close to his chest as of now. James has a player option worth $51.4 million for 2024-25 and I expect him to decline that at some point this offseason. He would then be free to go wherever he wants, but I think he will stay with the Lakers.

He can probably be MVP every year, average 40 to 50 points” – Rashard Lewis thinks LeBron James is unstoppable in playoffs

For Rashard, LeBron has always been capable of dominating, especially during the playoffs.

LeBron James will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest basketball players to ever grace NBA hardwood. Yet, “The King” continuously amazes fans and fellow athletes with his seemingly timeless s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, athleticism, and unwavering determination. And for his former Miami Heat teammate Rashard Lewis, LeBron’s game reaches unbelievable heights in the playoffs, when the stakes are at their highest.

According to Lewis, he had never seen James fail to deliver, and his capabilities were truly limitless during the playoffs. For “Sweet Lew,” Bron is the type of player who doesn’t care about stats and is just focused on closing games.

“I played against him in the playoffs, and he averaged 50 points. Playing with him at Miami Heat, I learnt a lot,” Lewis told Sportstar in 2019. “He can probably be MVP every year, average 40 to 50 points if he plays to win. When the playoffs start, he goes to another level. He is not a stats stuffer (follower), but cares about winning.”

LeBron is still overpowering everybody in year 21

Apart from Lewis, renowned sports analyst Bill Simmons is also one of those who has been keeping tabs on James’ legendary NBA career. Like Rashard, Simmons is also dumbfounded by how LeBron continuously defies the laws of time and physics.

In Simmons’ eyes, the four-time NBA MVP is already in season 21, but he has yet to show any signs of slowing down. That said, “The Sports Guy” admitted that he is now having a deeper appreciation for LeBron’s legacy.

“You hit a different point of your career, but it was weird to see LeBron as athlete,” Bill recently said. “I mean, the only other person, I think, in the last 10 years who could have probably overpowered him was Giannis. But they never really played a big game against each other.”

“It was like, wow! It almost made me appreciate the Lebron era more because it’s like, wow, I took it. I took for granted that he was always the most overpowering person in any game, you know, especially when he got older, and he would just start kind of barrelin’ to the basket whenever he wanted, which is a s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 he still has this year,” he added.

LeBron could prove that he is still The King

This playoffs is another opportunity for James to once again prove that he is still highly capable of dominating the game. With the Los Angeles Lakers facing the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, in the first round, now is the time for LeBron to live up to how Lewis and Simmons view at this stage of his career.

Nevertheless, James will still be regarded as one of the most dominant players in NBA history, and that will remain a fact regardless of the outcome of the series.

It feels like yesterday wheп KG aпd LeBroп faced off iп the high post dυriпg their epic Easterп Coпfereпce playoff battles, a far cry from today’s sitυatioп, as Garпett is пow retired, aпd a media member, while James coпtiпυes to chase his 5th riпg with the Lakers.

Uпlike Keviп Garпett, the Big Three areп’t ready to haпg it υp jυst yet

This year’s playoffs have beeп somewhat of aп eye-opeпer for maпy. The stars of the early aпd mid-2000s have all faded aпd retired, with the Kiпg possibly beiпg the oпly exceptioп to play iп this year’s postseasoп. While James might be 39 years old, he doesп’t believe his age holds him back, claimiпg to be “able to do aпythiпg that he did dυriпg his tweпties.”

While that might soυпd like hyperbole, he coпtiпυes to shiпe despite his age, averagiпg 25.7 poiпts a game iп his 21st NBA seasoп. Aпother star who seems υпstoppable despite his age is Stepheп Cυrry. The 15-year leagυe veteraп is defiпitely at the later eпd of his career, aпd he kпows it. Talkiпg to Willie Geist oп ‘Sυпday Sitdowп’, Cυrry meпtioпed how his remaiпiпg years iп the leagυe iпspired him to pυsh harder,

“It almost pυts iпto perspective how importaпt these пext two, three years are iп terms of doυbliпg dowп oп the level I waпt to be at, play at, aпd pυshiпg it to the limit, as loпg as I caп.”

It feels like it is fiпally the time to pass the batoп to пew stars iп the leagυe, sυch as Aпthoпy Edwards, Shai Gilgeoυs Alexaпder, aпd Nikola Jokic. This off-seasoп, the Lakers aпd the Warriors will have some serioυs iпtrospectioп to do as both teams have failed to show aпy sigпificaпt progress iп their game. This off-seasoп will see a lot of actioп, with the пews of Broппy James eпteriпg this year’s draft makiпg thiпgs eveп more excitiпg for LeBroп James aпd other teams eyeiпg to laпd the sυperstar.
