Jason Kelce opened up about preparing to join ESPN and said the network ‘was all Travis and I watched growing up’

Jason Kelce has opened up on his move into broadcasting next season with the retired NFL legend set to join ESPN.

After months of speculation about his next move following his retirement in March, the Super Bowl winner’s next step was confirmed by New Heights earlier this week.

‘Monday Night Football just got even better, Congrats @JasonKelce’ read a statement on the official social media account of the Kelce brothers’ hit podcast.

It came shortly after The Athletic first reported that the former Eagles center was moving into the broadcasting booth.

Kelce, who was wanted by multiple networks, is expected to be part of the pregame show ‘Monday Night Countdown’.

Jason Kelce has opened up on his move into broadcasting with the retired star set to join ESPN

Asked about his next venture on this week’s episode of New Heights, Jason admitted he was thrilled to be stepping in front of the camera.

He said: ‘Yeah nothing has been officially inked or announced yet but there’s been a lot of reports out there about me going to ESPN and I think time will kind of take care of that.

‘It’s a tremendous honor to be even considered to potentially work there. That network was everything that Travis and I watched growing up. We talk about it all the time, had Rich Eisen on the show last year.

‘We talk about all these guys we grew up watching. We loved watching Sports Center. Before phones that was the only way to get all the coverage. We were glued to the TV each and every day so the fact I may, potentially, probably will be working there is pretty darn cool man.’

Travis added: ‘That’s awesome man. That’s some cool stuff to see come full circle because we used to live and die by ESPN on that TV growing up, man.

‘To see you up there with a microphone in your hand is going to be hilarious man. That’s awesome’

Jason continued: ‘I’m a talking head now. Well not officially. I do my due diligence. You want to make sure you’re really looking at things, talking to people in the industry, neither one of us has done something like this.

‘Throughout the whole process and meeting and talking to people at ESPN it became apparent that it was really the right fit and at the end of the day it’s something I’m really, really looking forward to in this next phase.

Kelce appeared on Amazon Prime’s coverage of Thursday Night Football last season

‘It’s a bit clearer now, which is something I’m excited about. I know, to some degree, who I’m working with and I think very, very highly of all of them.

‘I’m excited to learn. I know a lot about football but not a lot about this world so that’s jut another avenue to continue to expand your knowledge, create relationships because that’s what every business is about. It’s always about the people you interact with. I’m really excited.’

NBC, CBS and Amazon are said to be among those who were interested in hiring Kelce, who already offers his opinions on football on New Heights’ weekly episodes.

But ESPN has won the battle for his services, with Kelce expected to be part of the pregame show ‘Monday Night Countdown’.

That is despite Kelce previously appearing as an analyst on Amazon Prime’s Thursday night broadcast. He and his wife Kylie also filmed a documentary – ‘Kelce’ – on the streaming service in 2023.

It represents another coup for ESPN, following the news that former Patriots coach Bill Belichick will be joining the network as a weekly guest on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ during the NFL season.

Nick Saban will also serve as an analyst on ESPN’s ‘College Gameday’ following his retirement from Alabama.

  • This is Rihanna before famous – a strong girl aged 14, modelling and designing costumes in her hometown Barbados

This is Rihanna before famous – a strong girl aged 14, modelling and designing costumes in her hometown Barbados

Years before she rose to fame as a singer and fashion designer, 14-year-old Rihanna was showing off her artistic side in her native Barbados.

Pictures of the future pop diva show Rihanna making clothes and posing.

Anwar Muhammad, 72, a Barbadian designer, claimed that when Rihanna was “just Robyn,” she used to assist him in creating looks for a street festival.

Muhammad claimed that Rihanna was ‘destined’ to be ‘number one’ even at an early age.

Future superstar: Years before becoming a singing sensation and fashion designer, Rihanna was just a 14-year-old girl showcasing her flair for creativity in her home country of Barbados

Young designer: Muhammad said that Rihanna and her friends would visit his studio in Roberts Road, Haggatt Hall, St Michael to help him create costumes for the street festival Crop Over

Muhammad claimed that in order to assist him in making costumes for Crop Over, Rihanna and her pals would come to his workshop on Roberts Road, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.

Back then: Anwar also told the story of how he first met Rihanna 19 years ago at her alma mater The Combermere School

Anwar remarked, “To be honest, I wouldn’t say I had a major influence on her career, but I am still proud of her. Her designs are incredible, and I’m just glad I saw glimpses of that potential all those years ago.”

He showed pictures from a scrapbook he saved throughout the years of Rihanna working on the designs with her friends.

Helping out: Anwar explained that he was making costumes for a tribute to the popular Soca band Krosfyah. He asked the group if they wanted to assist him, a request to which they readily agreed

Anwar first got to know Rihanna 19 years ago while she was shooting pictures for her old mater, The Combermere School, for their sports day.

I was a photographer at the time, documenting Combermere’s sports day. I inquired if I may take her picture after spotting this one girl in the stands.

Reminiscing: One of the memories Anwar also shared was of Rihanna's love for the cherries he plucked for her from his fruit tree

She stood out from the crowd for no apparent reason. She was going to be number one even back then, he remembered.

Anwar clarified that he was creating outfits for a Krosfyah homage, a well-known Soca band. He asked the group whether they would like to help, and they quickly said yes.

Inspiration: The Barbadian cherries, known as Bajan cherries, would later become a major ingredient in her Fenty skincare line. Seen in 2018

Although the kids visited Muhammad’s workshop practically daily, Rihanna stood out for her commitment to the project because of her laser-like intensity.

In the mornings, her mother would drop her off. “That year we were paying special tribute to the music band Krosfyah so we designed costumes as such,” he recalled. “She wasn’t Rihanna then, just Robyn.”

Discovering a star: The songstress lived Barbados until she was 16, when she was discovered by American record producer Evan Rogers. Pictured in 2013

“I really enjoyed working with her,” he continued. “She was always focused, more so than her friends who would play around.”

Anwar also related a memory of Rihanna’s affection for the cherries he picked for her off his fruit tree.

Later on, the Barbadian cherries—also referred to as Bajan cherries—would play a significant role in her Fenty skincare brand.

At a digital launch event for Fenty Skin in July 2020, Rihanna reportedly recalled her early years of pinching cherries from her neighbor’s trees, according to The Zoe Report.

“I grew up climbing trees and stealing the Bajan cherry from my neighbors’ trees,” she remarked.

There was a cherry tree in the backyard of my mom’s cousin. Before, in order to reach the dogs, we had to sprint past them. I believed I was merely consuming a delicious little cherry.

Prestigious role: In September 2018, the government of Barbados appointed her as an ambassador for the Caribbean island country. Seen in 2017

Rihanna continued her story by describing how she eventually learned about the fruit’s health advantages.

“Then I’d go home when I started to find out the benefits,” she went on. When I was sick, I was told that the best thing to do was to drink Bajan cherry juice, which has even more vitamin C than oranges.

It feels like you get better in less than a day! Knowing that vitamin C is essential for healthy skin, I wanted to incorporate that into my skincare routine.

The singer, who was raised in Bridgetown, the nation’s capital, was born in St. Michael and resided in Barbados until the age of sixteen, when American record producer Evan Rogers found her.

Rogers sent an invitation to her to come to the US in order to record demo tapes that were forwarded to Jay-Z, the CEO of Def Jam Recordings. Jay-Z asked Rihanna to an audition for the record company after listening to her demos.

After seeing her audition, Jay-Z was so impressed that he immediately extended an offer to the adolescent for a six-figure record deal, which she accepted.

Despite her meteoric rise to international stardom following the publication of her debut album Music of the Sun, Rihanna has remained true to her Barbadian heritage.

The celebrity, who just made billions of dollars, frequently makes allusions to her native nation in her songs and music videos.

She was chosen by the Barbados government to serve as the island nation’s ambassador in September 2018.

Following her designation as ‘Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,’ Rihanna released a statement expressing her pride at assuming such a high role in her native country.

“I’m prepared and eager to take on the responsibility, and I know that every Barbadian must play their part in this current effort.”

Jason Kelce claims he and brother Travis are behind NFL’s idea to move Super Bowl to three-day-weekend

Jason Kelce joked that he and his brother Travis’ ‘New Heights’ podcast was behind commissioner Roger Goodell’s latest NFL proposal.

Earlier this week, Goodell suggested that the NFL could soon adopt an 18-game regular season (up from 17), which would cause Super Bowl Sunday to be moved to Presidents’ Day weekend, when US fans have Monday off.

And while the recently-retired Jason won’t be playing through those changes himself, he believes he and Travis were ahead of the curve.

‘The best part of this is that the Super Bowl’s getting moved to President’s Day,’ Jason said of Goodell’s idea. ‘Which, we talked about it before. I think we actually made this happen. I don’t think the NFL had this on their eyesight at all.

‘We talked about putting the Super Bowl on a three-day weekend way before this ever got released. So ‘New Heights’ – you can thank us for being able to celebrate Super Bowl weekend on a three-day weekend.’

BREAKING Kansas city overwhelmed and delighted ' Travis Kelce bought a house worth $3.3m for homeless Kids after signing $46m contract extension with the chiefs

Kelce signed a four-year, $57.25m (£45m) extension with Kansas City in 2020, which followed a $46m (£37m) five-year contract that he signed in 2016. The new extension is expected to once again make him one of the league’s highest-paid tight ends.

The 34-year-old, who was chosen by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 draft, is the franchise’s all-time receiving leader with 11,328 yards.

Kelce has also become a crossover star, thanks in part to his relationship with pop icon Taylor Swift and his appearances on shows such as “Saturday Night Live.”

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes celebrated the news by writing: “I told y’all I’ll never let him leave!! Congrats my guy!” on X.

Mahomes threw a walk-off touchdown to Mecole Hardman in overtime as the Kansas City Chiefs shattered the hearts of the San Francisco 49ers with a 25-22 victory at Super Bowl LVIII in Sunday’s thrilling Las Vegas finale in October.

The podcast Kelce hosts with his brother and former Eagles center Jason Kelce – ‘New Heights’ – has become one of the most popular across several genres, and he will soon host a quiz show on Amazon Prime.

Jason and Travis Kelce engaged in a hilarious discussion about how big butts can be advantageous in the NFL.

In the latest episode of their New Heights podcast, the brothers referenced a story from The Athletic that highlighted how players’ rear ends play a factor in NFL scouting reports.

‘We usually say it in a negative way,’ Jason said. ‘But it turns out a** is all these scouts are looking at.’

The former Eagles center also joked about how his wife says he has a ‘chicken a**’ after Travis named him as the ‘a** you think of when you think of the NFL.’

‘I don’t have an a**, Trav,’ Jason said, to which the Chiefs tight end responded: ‘Dude, ask Kylie, she knows.’

‘A chicken a**,’ Kylie confirmed. Travis later sighed and said: ‘She’s not looking at the same a**.’

Jason continued reading excerpts of the story from The Athletic – pausing ever-so-often to give their commentary. The recently retired Eagles star insisted that big butts are especially helpful defensive linemen.

During his segment, Burrow revealed how he wishes to see aliens but thinks the extra-terrestrial beings are too advanced in technology to be spotted.

  • Breaking Down the Gridiron Grit: Unveiling the Leadership Lessons in Jason Kelce’s Mental Toughness

Breaking Down the Gridiron Grit: Unveiling the Leadership Lessons in Jason Kelce’s Mental Toughness

Jason Kelce: Lessons in Leadership from the Eagles’ Iron Man

Jason Kelce has established himself as one of the best centers in the NFL during his 10-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. While his play on the field has been a key part of the team’s success, Kelce’s leadership extends well beyond the stats and highlights. Through persevering in the face of adversity, holding himself accountable, supporting his teammates, and keeping the bigger picture in focus, Kelce demonstrates qualities that have made him one of the most respected voices in the Eagles’ locker room. His approach offers valuable lessons that can inspire leaders in any field.

    Overcoming Adversity

One of the hallmarks of Kelce’s career has been his ability to battle back from injury. In 2014, he tore his ACL and missed the remainder of the season. Many questioned if he would ever return to form, but Kelce was determined in his rehabilitation. He worked tirelessly to get back on the field and has started every game for the Eagles since 2015.

Injuries have been a constant challenge for Kelce. He’s played through numerous ankle, knee, and elbow issues over the years that would have sidelined many others. Even this past season, Kelce suffered a torn elbow ligament in Week 6 against the Buccaneers. Rather than opt for season-ending surgery, he gutted it out with a brace and didn’t miss a single game.

His ironman mentality in the face of physical setbacks has been enormously inspiring for his teammates. As Eagles tackle Lane Johnson said, “The way he fights through injuries and is as tough as they come, that rubs off on everybody.” Kelce’s resilience sends a message that leaders can overcome any challenge through determination and grit. No obstacle is too great to prevent persevering toward the goal.

Kelce’s ability to battle adversity is a testament to his mental toughness. He refuses to let injuries derail him from his commitment to his teammates and the team’s success. In prioritizing perseverance over pain, Kelce sets an example that leadership requires facing challenges head-on and motivating others to do the same. His “play through it” attitude has been contagious in rallying his fellow Eagles.

    Self-Awareness and Accountability

While Kelce excels physically, one of his most impressive traits is his self-awareness. He doesn’t shy away from critiquing his own performance, openly acknowledging mistakes and areas for improvement. After the Eagles’ playoff loss to the Bucs in 2021, Kelce didn’t mince words about his responsibility for the team’s defeat: “The loss is 100% on me. I take that loss personally.”

This accountability is a hallmark of Kelce’s leadership approach. He holds himself to the highest standard and isn’t afraid to admit when he comes up short. Taking ownership of errors breeds trust with teammates and coaches, signaling that the leader is the first to raise their hand when things go wrong.

Kelce’s self-awareness was on display again after a Week 6 loss to the Cowboys in 2022 where he committed multiple penalties. As he told reporters: “There were a couple mistakes that were completely on me that really hurt the team…that’s something that’s completely unacceptable from me. I’ve got to be better.”

Admitting flaws shows humility and a commitment to growth. It allows a leader to learn from missteps and work to improve constantly. Kelce’s example demonstrates that accountability starts from within by acknowledging one’s own shortcomings transparently and constructively. This mentality cultivates an environment where others feel comfortable doing the same.

    Recognizing Strength in Others

Beyond his own play, Kelce has been one of Lane Johnson’s strongest supporters. In 2019, Johnson left the team to seek help for his mental health struggles with anxiety and depression. Kelce publicly backed Johnson’s decision 100%, saying his teammate’s well-being was far more important than any game.

As Kelce explained, “This is about life, about him living a happy, healthy life…football is a game, it’s entertainment…his life is way more important than a stupid football game.” He recognized the courage it took for Johnson to acknowledge his challenges and prioritize his mental health.

Kelce continues to champion Johnson’s brave journey. After Johnson won the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2021, Kelce said: “For him to overcome what he’s overcome and to be the best right tackle in the league, it’s amazing…he’s a great example for everyone.”

By spotlighting Johnson’s strength in facing his struggles head-on, Kelce sets an example of empathy. He understands that true leadership requires recognizing teammates’ humanity beyond just their physical talents. Creating an environment where others feel comfortable being vulnerable fosters deeper connections and a united purpose. Kelce’s compassion strengthens the Eagles’ bonds as a team.

    Focus on the Bigger Goal

Perhaps most importantly, Kelce leads with an emphasis on prioritizing the team above individual glory. He’s never been one for personal accolades, instead finding motivation in chasing Super Bowl championships. After the Eagles’ playoff loss in 2021, Kelce said “The business of hope is why we do this…that’s my driving force.”

Rather than sulk over personal mistakes or injuries, Kelce channels his energy into uplifting his teammates and keeping their collective goals in focus. As he told GQ, “My role is to make sure these guys understand we’re working for something bigger.”

By modeling selflessness and a shared vision for success, Kelce inspires unity. He demonstrates that true leadership is about empowering others and creating team-first accountability. It’s a fitting mindset for a position like center that touches the ball on every play but often goes unnoticed. Kelce leads quietly through diligence, consistency and prioritizing the objectives that matter most for the entire organization.

    The Intangible Leader

Through tenacious perseverance, accountability, compassion, and team-first priorities, Jason Kelce has emerged as one of the NFL’s most respected leaders. But beyond stats, his impact comes through intangible qualities that can’t be measured by traditional metrics. Kelce’s approach offers invaluable lessons for leaders in any field on the importance of:

    – Facing challenges with determination and grit while motivating others to do the same.

    – Admitting flaws with humility and using mistakes as opportunities for growth.

    – Recognizing and celebrating strength and humanity in teammates beyond just physical talents.

    – Empowering others by keeping focus on shared goals and objectives above personal glory.

While Kelce continues rewriting Eagles’ history books on the field as their longest-tenured player, his most enduring impact may be in demonstrating the invaluable role of mental toughness and selfless leadership. By displaying consistency, accountability, empathy and team-first priorities through adversity, Kelce inspires what’s possible when commitment to a collective purpose comes before any individual accolades. His quiet example of fortitude off the field makes him equally as respected as his play on it. There is much the business world and beyond can learn from the intangible leadership of Jason Kelce.
