  • NBA Rumors: Mavericks’ Jason Kidd among coaching candidates Lakers are ‘pondering’

NBA Rumors: Mavericks’ Jason Kidd among coaching candidates Lakers are ‘pondering’

The Lakers consider Jason Kidd for their head coaching vacancy, adding intrigue to their search for a new leader.

Lakers Considering To Hire Jason Kidd As Next Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers find themselves in a pivotal moment following the departure of head coach Darvin Ham after a disappointing first-round playoff exit. As they embark on their search for a new leader, an intriguing name has emerged in the mix as reported by Dave McMenamin: Jason Kidd, the current head coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

Amidst speculation and deliberation about potential candidates, McMenamin reported on Sportscenter that Kidd is being considered by the Lakers organization. With a desire to pivot towards an experienced candidate, Kidd’s name joins the list alongside other notable figures like Tyronn Lue and JJ Redick.

Kidd’s candidacy brings with it a wealth of experience and a connection to Lakers superstar LeBron James. Having played alongside a young LeBron during their time with Team USA, Kidd shares a history with the Lakers’ franchise player, potentially influencing the selection process.

However, while the rumors swirl, Kidd remains focused on his current role with the Mavericks. Following a decisive victory over the Los Angeles Clippers to secure a spot in the conference semifinals, Kidd emphasized his dedication to guiding his team through the playoffs.

With his sights set on upcoming matchups against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kidd’s immediate priority lies in leading the Mavericks to success in the postseason.

While the Lakers weigh their options and navigate the coaching landscape, the allure of securing a proven leader like Kidd looms large. His track record as both a player and a coach, coupled with his ties to LeBron James, make him an intriguing candidate for the Lakers’ head coaching position.

As the Lakers’ front office deliberates and the coaching carousel spins, the saga surrounding Jason Kidd’s potential move to Los Angeles adds an intriguing subplot to the NBA offseason narrative. Whether he remains with the Mavericks or ventures into a new coaching role, Kidd’s impact on the league is sure to be felt in the seasons to come.

There Is No Logical Reason For Jason Kidd To Join The Lakers

Jason Kidd’s potential move to the Los Angeles Lakers may seem illogical when considering the current state of both franchises. The Dallas Mavericks, led by a young and blossoming Luka Doncic, present a compelling case for Kidd to remain at the helm. With Doncic showcasing his superstar potential and the presence of seasoned players like Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks offer a promising future.

Contrastingly, the Lakers’ roster appears less stable, with LeBron James nearing the twilight of his career and Anthony Davis grappling with injury concerns. Beyond these two stars, the Lakers lack a cohesive system and a roster depth that can compete at the highest level.

Furthermore, the Mavericks boast a culture of dedication and ambition among their young players, creating an environment conducive to growth and success. In contrast, the Lakers are mired in uncertainty, lacking a clear direction and identity.

For Kidd, the allure of coaching a team with a budding superstar like Doncic, coupled with the Mavericks’ upward trajectory, provides little incentive to depart for the Lakers. The Mavericks offer stability, potential, and a roster filled with talent eager to succeed, making them an attractive option for Kidd to continue his coaching journey.

Additionally, the intense scrutiny and pressure that accompany coaching the Lakers may deter Kidd from making the switch. With expectations sky-high and a demanding fanbase, the Lakers’ coaching role presents a formidable challenge that may not align with Kidd’s aspirations.

While the Lakers may be a storied franchise with a rich history, the Mavericks offer a more compelling opportunity for Jason Kidd at this juncture. With a young superstar in Luka Doncic and a promising roster, the Mavericks provide stability and potential for success, factors that outweigh the uncertainties surrounding the Lakers.

Thus, from a logical standpoint, there is little reason for Kidd to entertain the idea of joining the Lakers when he has a promising situation in Dallas.

NBA superstars Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, who won two NBA titles together with the Golden State Warriors in 2016 and 2017, reunited in New York City on Sunday.

Durant, 34, hosted the festive evening with Boardroom partner Rich Kleiman, where Curry, 34, enjoyed catching up with his former teammate.

Other notable attendees included Fabolous, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and CBS’ Gayle King, who caught up with Curry inside the party.

Guests at the star-studded dinner, which took place at The Nines, were treated to wine from Curry’s personal collection and cocktails featuring Cincoro tequila.

For dinner, the NBA champs dined on crudités, twice-baked potatoes with caviar, shrimp cocktail, Gnudi, burgers, and chocolate mousse.

Former NFL players Victor Cruz and Justin Tuck also dropped by. Later in the evening, Tuck, 39, and former Yankees star CC Sabathia were “deep in conversation about business,” according to an attendee who caught the retired athletes mingling.

Curry and Durant took home two NBA titles for the Golden State Warriors together, before Durant signed a contract with the Brooklyn Nets.

NBA fans have been speculating about the possibility of Durant returning to Golden State after Curry’s September interview with Rolling Stone.

Curry told the magazine, “If you said, ‘Oh, KD’s coming back, and we’re gonna play with him…I’d be like, Hell, yeah!’”

The Golden State Warriors star’s brother, Seth Curry — who is currently Durant’s Brooklyn Nets teammate — also stopped by to celebrate the upcoming holidays.

Kleiman, 46, toasted with the group to “connectivity and bringing people together,” as he and Durant prepare for a busy 2023 with Boardroom and other ventures.

Most recently, the duo announced their investment into a Major League Pickleball expansion team, the Brooklyn Aces. Durant and Kleiman join athletes like LeBron James and Tom Brady, who have also taken claim in the league.

Durant’s team is set to begin competing in the 2023 MLP season. “Major League Pickleball is a league we are incredibly excited about,” Kleiman, a self-described “avid pickleball player, and fan,” said in a press release.

Kleiman said he and Durant’s 35V is “committed to investing in the future of sports and emerging opportunities.” The creative partners “can’t wait to build this team from the ground up.”

They not only bring passion for the game, but also unrivaled expertise to help us grow.”

Durant is one of the NBA’s most dominant players — he’s gunning for MVP this season — but the Nets star has managed to take on a handful of outside ventures in sports and entertainment. In 2020, he and Utah Jazz player Mike Conley were part of a team of executive producers of Two Distant Strangers, a short film about police brutality that won Best Live Action Short Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.

The chances Tyronn Lue leaves Clippers for Lakers, per Woj

The LA Clippers are still in a heated playoff matchup against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Even with a Game 6 on Friday night, there are already a lot of rumors flying around Tyronn Lue and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lue is coaching with just one year left on his contract following this season, and following the Lakers dismissal of head coach Darvin Ham, everyone is eyeing a potential replacement on the market.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania named Lue as a possible candidate for the Lakers coaching job should he find his way off the Clippers.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, however, says he doesn’t believe Tyronn Lue is going anywhere.

Tyronn Lue, Paul George, LeBron James, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers

“I don’t believe it’s realistic based on this: Ty Lue still has a year left on his contract and the Clippers are determined to do a long-term deal with Ty Lue, I’m told,” Wojnarowski said on ESPN’s NBA Today. “They want him to be their coach for a very long time. And so, listen, that’s a conversation that will happen after the playoffs are over, but they love the job he did this season. They love the job that he’s done there. This is an organization that, by all indications, however this series ends up, wants to re-sign Paul George, James Harden, try to improve that roster around those two, of course, and Kawhi Leonard. And that Ty Lue will still be the coach for them.

Woj: “The Clippers are determined to do a long-term deal with Ty Lue, I’m told. They want him to be their coach for a very long time. That’s a conversation that will happen after the playoffs are over, but they love the job he did this season.”

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski also mentioned that former Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer is something that the Lakers will look at in their pursuit for a new leader.

“Of course, the Lakers, they offered the job to Ty Lue back before Frank Vogel got it. They couldn’t come to terms on a deal and so you start to look out in the marketplace. Mike Budenholzer is probably the most accomplished coach available. He won a championship in Milwaukee, was also coach of the year in Atlanta.”

Lue has coached 318 games as Clippers head coach for four years now, leading them to a 184-134 record (.579). Lue also has a 13-16 playoff record with the Clippers, with 10 of those wins coming in the 2020-21 season. Since that postseason, the Clippers have been significantly hampered by injuries to their stars, playing 15 of the 29 playoff games without Kawhi Leonard and five without Paul George.

In his eight seasons as a head coach, Tyronn Lue has accumulated a 312-217 record (.590) in the regular season and a 54-36 postseason record (.600)

The Clippers take on the Mavs tonight at 6:30PM PST, and there’s still a chance that Tyronn Lue’s team finds a way to force a Game 7 back home in Los Angeles.

Draymond Green drops truth bomb on why Lakers’ Darvin Ham shouldn’t be fired

Draymond Green drops truth bomb on why Lakers’ Darvin Ham shouldn’t be fired

The first thing most of the Los Angeles Lakers faithful did after their squad got bounced in the NBA Playoffs yet again was hurl vitriol toward someone.

Who was at the receiving end of comments that insisted that they get fired? Well, it was Darvin Ham.

From comments about being lost delivered by Anthony Davis to LeBron James being defiant, one can see why the collapse could be his fault. But, Draymond Green sees the situation differently.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James mentor Lakers Darvin Ham with Draymond Green

The Golden State Warriors forward argues that there is not a singular person responsible for how horrid the Lakers play. This squad should be able to take the blame collectively from LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, to the rest of the squad until ownership. Draymond Green outlined why giving Darvin Ham the boot would just be an odd move to kickstart the Lakers’ offseason, via The Volume.

“I think it’d be wrong to fire him. He’ll catch a lot of flak for the season that they had but their roster didn’t get better than last year and they were a play-in team. Yeah, they made it to the Conference Finals with LeBron James and Anthony Davis playing the way that they were playing but they didn’t get better,” the Warriors legend declared.

Last season, the Lakers finished the regular season sitting seventh in the Western Conference standings. They had the 20th-ranked offensive rating that clocks in at 114.5 and a defensive rating ranked 11th at 113.9 value. There was not much that changed in the personnel, schemes, and even in their rotations. So, the league caught up to them.

The Lakers then finished eighth this year. Their offensive rating got better at 115.9 which propelled them to have the 15th ranking. On the other side of the floor, the defensive execution of the LeBron James and Anthony Davis-led squad got worse. They dipped all the way to 16th and had a 115.3 rating.

Lakers didn’t move the needle too much

Green does not only think that they ran nearly the same Lakers squad back from last year. He also posits that the squad lost key rotational players in the point guard spot.

“They lost Dennis Schroder. I don’t think they replaced him well. Gabe Vincent didn’t bring anything to the season. Obviously, he was hurt,” he added about the Lakers’ point guard conundrum.

So, the conclusion was quite simple for Green. Ham did not have much to work with anyway. This meant that there may be blame to go around but it should not solely be on the Lakers head honcho. He even blasted the fans calling for the coach’s firing after they got eliminated in the NBA Playoffs.

“I don’t think the roster got better but you expected better results. But, everybody would blame Darvin Ham like it’s his fault. Is it really? Hopefully, they don’t just fire Darvin like it’s his fault and no one else’s fault. I think that’s garbage,” he concluded.

The Lakers have yet again entered a lengthy offseason. Will they use it to get better and be propelled into a higher seed in the NBA Playoffs next year?
