Matthew Modine is incredibly proud of those who brought Stranger Things to life.

At the premiere of his new Netflix series Zero Day, the Stranger Things actor spoke to PEOPLE exclusively about the beloved sci-fi show’s highly anticipated final season. Modine portrays the villainous Dr. Martin Brenner — “Papa” to Millie Bobby Brown’s character Eleven.

The fifth season will be “the biggest season ever,” Modine shares. But with the show ending, there’s more than usual to reflect on, including the next career steps for his costars and the show’s creators.

Brown, with whom Modine spends the most time while filming, is early in her career and has many great prospects in her future, he said.

“Most of my involvement with the show is really with Millie, so I’m happy that she has a really robust post-Stranger Things film schedule ahead of her, so she’s going to be fine,” he said.

Since Brown’s breakout role on Stranger Things, she’s starred in the popular Enola Holmes franchise, featuring as Sherlock Holmes’ equally intuitive detective sister, and Damsel, a fantasy adventure film in which Brown stars as a young princess.

She also recently married Jake Bongiovi, and Modine was their wedding officiant. Modine expected it to be “really funny and silly,” he revealed on the Today Show on Feb. 19. But on the actual day, he felt honored to be the one declaring the young couple as husband and wife.

Post-finale, though, Modine’s even more excited for the creators of Stranger Things — Matt and Ross Duffer, commonly referred to as the Duffer Brothers. The actor shared that they have big plans for the future, following the massive success of their latest pursuit.

“I’m most happy for the Duffer Brothers,” Modine added. “Because they’ve been doing this for a long time now and they’re such talented filmmakers that I know they’re looking forward to their lives and the films they’re going to make you post Stranger Things.”

Stranger Things season 5 does not have a premiere date just yet. In the meantime, you can catch Modine’s new show Zero Day, premiering on Feb. 20 on Netflix.
