Now that the confetti has finished falling after Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, the talk is now turning to the possibility that LeBron James could play in the NBA with both of his sons.

Bryce James, who will be draft-eligible in 2026, is skeptical that will happen. He told Aron Cohen of Lakers All Day Everyday his dad’s “gonna be 42, bro” when asked if LeBron would wait to retire before he enters the NBA.

LeBron has been vague about his future plans, though he has acknowledged he doesn’t have much time left in the NBA.

The future Hall-of-Famer can become a free agent if he opts out of his contract with the Lakers.

Per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are “committed” to keeping LeBron and are prepared to offer him a three-year max contract if he declines his option.

A three-year deal would run through the 2026-27 season, which would be Bryce’s rookie year in the NBA if he turns pro as soon as he is eligible. In the aftermath of Bronny being drafted, there were already memes being created about the possibility of the three members of the James family playing together.

James was already the oldest player in the NBA during the 2023-24 season at the age of 39. He was also still playing at an elite level with an average of 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game in 71 starts.

Until there is any indication James is slowing down, it would seem likely that he keeps playing long enough to have the possibility to play with or against Bryce.

Bryce is entering his senior season at Sierra Canyon. He is a 3-star prospect in the 2025 college recruiting class, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. The 17-year-old has offers from Ohio State and Duquesne.
