Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has a big decision to make

LeBron James Drops Surprising Take On Ex-Teammate Kyrie Irving - Athlon Sports

The Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks will play Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night, and if Boston completes the sweep, the NBA offseason will officially be underway. The day after the NBA Finals end is the first day teams can begin negotiating with their own free agents, which is a new CBA addition, meaning some big announcements are coming soon.

Per Bobby Marks of ESPN, teams cannot negotiate with free agents from other teams until June 30th, and cannot officially sign free agents until July 6th, but there are some very key dates before then. Among these is June 29th, which is the last day for team and player options to be exercised.

The biggest contract option in basketball right now is the $51.4M player option Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has. Shortly after the NBA Finals conclude, it is expected James will decline his player option, which will then give him the ability to sign an extension with the Lakers or explore other options.

This decision from James will have to come not long after the NBA Finals conclude, because as previously mentioned, that June 29th deadline for his player option is quickly approaching. All signs have pointed to James declining his option and extending with the Lakers, but that first step needs to occur before any longterm decisions can be made.

There will be some big announcements coming shortly after the NBA Finals conclude, but none bigger than the one James will make on his NBA future.
