Jason Kelce may have retired from the Philadelphia Eagles. However, his legacy has continued to live on, and so have his rivalries with other teams from the NFL. While the former football center had continuously lost every match to the Seahawks since he had joined in the 2011 draft, the father of two finally seemed ready to take the blame for a mishap that had cost them the game just a few short years ago.

Although the blunder might have haunted Kelce for years, some of the 36-year-old’s fans believed that the whole thing had not been the former Eagles’ player’s fault. In a post on X, one such fan posted a clip of the 2020 match when the 7-time Pro Bowl athlete forgot to snap the ball. Although everyone saw it as a one-off that would probably never happen again, the retired NFL star commented, “It was totally my fault.”

Kelce had addressed the incident before. However, it was the first time clearing the air with a fan. While the internet tried to comfort him about the 2020 mess up, it did not sit right with the rest of the Eagles team as a veteran player had caused them a major setback. Unfortunately, they wound up losing the game with a score of 23-17. The 36-year-old may have been forgiven by his fans, but it looks like he is holding himself accountable.

While Kelce might not have been over his distracted behavior 3 years ago, the former NFL star made a similar fumble just a year before he announced his retirement.

Jason Kelce’s second fumble against the Seahawks

Before Jason Kelce retired earlier this year, he wound up playing his final match against the Seattle Seahawks. Although it might have been a chance for the 36-year-old to go out with a bang, he unfortunately stumbled the ball once more. This time, though, instead of forgetting to snap the ball, the seasoned center ended up moving the ball forward before the snap, which resulted in the team receiving a penalty. With the infraction forcing them to settle for a field goal instead of something better, fans were fuming.

The fumbled play left Eagles’ fans storming social media to air out their frustrations with Kelce. However, he chose the high road and took accountability for his unintentional mess up. In a post-game interview with ProFootballTalk, he said, “They’ve been warning me of that for years,” acknowledging the referees’ numerous rules.

However, he continued, “I think when you’re trying to get a forward lean and you really do that, I think I had a tendency to do that in the past, so they’ve definitely warned me before. I think that I just got to be smarter. Especially in that situation.” The older Kelce taking responsibility for his actions should come as no surprise.

After all, he was one of the main people who held Travis Kelce accountable for losing his cool at Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid during the Super Bowl final earlier this year. Apart from that, Kelce has always owned up to his actions. This is probably the reason why Jason Kelce is heavily regarded in the NFL community.
