Philadelphia Eagles’ Jason Kelce Reveals ‘Guarantee’ of Troubling Medical Issue: ‘I Have CTE’

Retired NFL star Jason Kelce is well-known as a “good humor man,” quick with a quip and quick with a smile and living the good live as an iconic Philadelphia Eagles folk hero.

But this one isn’t funny.

“I can virtually guarantee that I have CTE,” Kelce wrote on social media. “All the research would suggest I have some degree of it. I think it is entirely reasonable to assume I have some degree of that pathology.”

CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) is the brain disease that is now known to have impacted generations of football players. Repeated blows to the head are a cause. Kelce, who of couse played center, obviously experienced many of those during his professional football career. … and before that in college, high school and youth league.

The familiar line about football is that a game in some ways can “be like 60 car crashes.” That can certainly be true of Kelce’s old job description. There are tragic stories about players with CTE. Hopefully, Kelce, who retired this past winter after a Hall of Fame level career and now plans to move into national TV broadcasting, will experience a long and healthy life … with more “good humor” in his future.
