It’s probable that one of the all-time great players and his former colleague will soon get back together.
My favorite player is Luka Doncic, says the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James Is Possibly Trying to Trade for the Dallas Mavericks? – Sports Illustrated News, Analysis, and More about the Dallas Mavericks
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers might become a free agent this offseason if he chooses not to exercise his player option, which has betting markets set to go. Right now, DraftKings is accepting bets on which side King James will next deploy his abilities.
The Lakers are the overwhelming favorites at -500, with the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat and New York Knicks tied for fifth place at +2500. The teams in top are the Golden State Warriors (+1400), Cleveland Cavaliers (+1400), and Philadelphia 76ers (+1800).
The Mavericks are perhaps the best basketball team for LeBron. He was Kyrie Irving’s teammate during his second tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the two of them shared a championship in 2016. James has also praised Luka Doncic over the years, calling him his favorite player in the NBA.
Though it’s interesting to think about how James, Irving, and Doncic could compliment each other’s passing and scoring abilities, James would likely have to take a large pay cut to make it work out given the Mavericks are already expected to be a tax-level club. The Mavericks could make adjustments, including as releasing Josh Green and Tim Hardaway Jr. from their contracts, but doing so would severely limit their future financial options.
Bill Simmons predicted LeBron James will join Luka Doncic and the Mavericks.
Unsurprisingly, LeBron James has stated that he would like to play with his son Bronny, who has submitted an NBA Draft application. Dallas currently gets the final pick in the draft after being chosen 58th overall by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Draft. If Bronny James was still available at that point—which is a possibility given his inconsistent college play and questions about his long-term potential—it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take him to convince LeBron to come to Dallas.
Despite being 39 years old, James had a successful season, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds while shooting a career-high 41% from three. He still has what it takes to be a top player and wants to be in the running for the title.
