US Basketball has announced a pool of 41 athletes who will compete for spots on the men’s national team for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris. The final team will consist of twelve players and will be announced at a later date. The pool of finalists includes players with extensive international experience and numerous Olympic or World Cup gold medals.
The selection process will be a challenging one, but US Basketball is excited about the extraordinary talent available. The head coach of the team will be Steve Kerr, with assistance from Mark Few, Tyronn Lue, and Erik Spoelstra. The team will begin its preparations with an exhibition match against Canada in Las Vegas, followed by international training and exhibition matches in London against the national teams of South Sudan and Germany.
The United States has already qualified for the Olympics by finishing in the top two in the FIBA Americas Zone at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
US Basketball will be represented by four teams at the 2024 Olympics, including men’s and women’s 3×3 teams and men’s and women’s 5×5 teams. The United States is aiming to win its seventeenth Olympic gold medal in basketball and its fifth consecutive gold in the men’s 5×5 competition. Further details about each of the US Basketball teams will be announced in the future.
