Why Ken Bruce is no Swiftie!

Taylor Swift is hard to escape this summer, with even Sir Keir Starmer desperate to be pictured at her London concerts, but the US pop superstar leaves Ken Bruce underwhelmed.

‘Everybody is talking about Taylor Swift,’ the veteran DJ tells me at the TRIC Awards in Mayfair.

‘I am not, as I have not been to see her. If she could write something that is not about one of her exes, that would be good.

‘I know a lot of people have the same experiences [break-ups] but find something else [to write about].

‘We only play 70s, 80s and 90s on Greatest Hits Radio, so she is a bit young for us.’

Bruce, 73, adds of today’s hits: ‘You’ve got to have just three notes to sell a record today.

‘You can’t have an intro or a 40-second introduction. You have got to be straight in there.’

BBC Radio 5 Live star Nihal Arthanayake has revealed he was caught up in a serious car accident this week.

‘I genuinely feel that we are lucky to be alive,’ he says of the crash, in which his Mercedes was badly damaged on the M60 in Greater Manchester. ‘A lorry hit a car which came into my path and hit the back of my car.’

The presenter adds: ‘A reminder to me of how precious life is and how it can be taken away.

‘Thankfully, we all walked away physically unscathed.’

Social media is proving costly for gobby ex-footballer Joey Barton.

Last week, he apologised to Jeremy Vine and agreed to pay him £75,000 after making wholly untrue allegations that the Radio 2 star had a sexual interest in children.

Now, I hear that Barton’s being sued for ‘defamation — libel and slander’ by another media personality.

ITV football pundit Eniola Aluko has just lodged papers with the High Court.

The particulars of claim are not yet public, but Barton’s comments about Vine came after he compared Aluko and another female pundit to serial killers Fred and Rosemary West.

Given his most celebrated on-screen persona, you might expect Jack Ashton to seek spiritual renewal within the CofE.

But Ashton, 37, who made his name as vicar Tom Hereward in Call The Midwife, has opted instead to entrust himself to Suri Mana, a ’shamanic practitioner’ who trained in the Amazon.

‘I was hugely out [of] my comfort zone,’ acknowledges Ashton, who last year parted from his Midwife co-star Helen George, with whom he has two young daughters.

‘But it was brilliant,’ he adds of his ‘healing’ experience.

Describing his session with Suri Mana as ‘quite extraordinary’, he adds: ‘I would recommend it to anyone feeling a bit stuck.’
