Xavier Tillman Set to Make Celtics Debut After Injury Spell
Boston Celtics fans have reason to cheer as Xavier Tillman, the newly acquired forward sidelined with a knee injury since joining the team, is poised to make his debut on Thursday.
In a flurry of last-minute moves just before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 7, Celtics’ President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens orchestrated deals bringing in Tillman and Jaden Springer to bolster the team’s roster.
Tillman, the former center for the Memphis Grizzlies, has been itching to hit the court in Celtics green but has been sidelined due to his knee injury. However, Celtics management announced Wednesday night that Tillman has been removed from the injury list, hinting at potential playing time for the talented big man.
The timing couldn’t be better as the Celtics gear up for a crucial matchup against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night. With Tillman’s reputation as a skilled off-ball defender with playoff experience, his presence is expected to be a boon for the Celtics down the stretch, offering valuable relief to starters like veteran Al Horford as the postseason approaches.
Tillman, at 25 years old, brings a solid resume from his time with the Grizzlies, where he averaged 6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game during the 2023-24 season.
Speaking about Tillman’s integration into the Celtics lineup, Coach Joe Mazzulla emphasized his versatility and defensive prowess, highlighting his ability to add speed and adaptability to the team’s defensive strategies.
With an impressive record of 43-12, the Celtics currently lead the league standings and hold a comfortable six-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. As they aim to extend their seven-game winning streak, all eyes will be on Tillman as he takes to the court against the Bulls at 8 p.m. on Thursday night.
