Watch Steph Curry’s Dad, Dell, Sink a 3-Pointer From 40 Feet Away
Like son, like father
Last night, Steph Curry notched 39 points and 8 assists in a Golden State Warriors win against the Charlotte Hornets, but his most memorable play of the night wasn’t one of his 11 3-pointers. Actually, it didn’t even come during the game itself. During Curry’s now-famous pregame warmup routine, he spotted his dad, Dell Curry, who does color commentary for the Hornets, pacing the sideline. Steph picked up an extra ball and chucked it at his pop, who scooped up the toss, lined up for a deep shot, and banked it in from 40 feet. It was an astonishing instance of Dell pulling an I’m-still-your-father power move, and it was even better to see the dad and son laughing and joking afterward.
It’s important to remember that Dell Curry was no slouch in the NBA. Steph’s pop recorded 16 productive years in the league, and he retired as the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer. His career 3-point percentage, 40.2 percent, still smokes the modern NBA average of 35.9 percent. Dell could shoot the lights out if he wanted, and it’s wonderful to see that he can still remind his son of that.
After sinking the shot, Dell pointed to Steph and called out, “Your turn.” And because Steph is like if you injected a ray of sunshine straight into a person, he laughed and pumped his fist in return. Of course, he also went on to hit those 11 3s. That’s pretty okay. Wonder if he could’ve done it wearing Dell’s suit though—maybe that’s still more impressive.
