Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo ascended the Acropolis on Wednesday, taking a group selfie in front of the Parthenon while proudly carrying their souvenirs, following their return of the NBA championship trophy to Greece this week.

Giannis received the MVP Award for the Finals after turning up a fantastic effort in the series against the Phoenix Suns. He posted several pictures from their trip to social media.

Before going back home, the Antetokounmpo brothers were meant to attend a party in their neighbourhood of Sepolia, Athens. Giannis announced that the event would be delayed due to the wildfires that have ravaged multiple Greek provinces in the past three days.

Antetokounmpo tweeted, “We hope the fire hasn’t claimed any lives.” It should go without saying that the celebration in Sepolia today is called off. We will notify you when the new day and time arrive.

The Antetokounmpo brothers were compelled to sell DVDs and bracelets in order to make ends meet. They were born in Greece to immigrants from Nigeria. They grew up afraid of being deported because Greece does not recognise children of immigrants who were born abroad.

Their Greek citizenship was finally obtained in 2013, after they were selected in the NBA draft.

The brothers’ extraordinary journey from Sepolia to the NBA has captured the attention of Greek fans, where basketball is frequently less popular than football.

This same region will serve as the focal point of a Disney film on Giannis’ rise to prominence in the NBA. Filming for the biopic is expected to begin in September.

The pride that Giannis’s success has caused in their old neighborhood—which is rarely highlighted in the media—is demonstrated by a massive mural of him wearing his Milwaukee Bucks jersey, which is situated across the court from where he and his brothers practiced and played.

“This trip has been quite crazy. He remarked, “I would say you’re crazy if you told me eight years ago that I would be here with Thanasis, and that we could take the NBA trophy anywhere we wanted.”

However, we haven’t stopped working hard to complete it all. As a family, we never stop. We witnessed our parents working nonstop to provide for us when we returned home from school or practice. That is what we were raised to witness throughout our lives.
