Steрhen Curry doeѕn’t wаnt to рressure hіs сhildren іnto рarticiрating іn ѕportѕ: ‘I’m tryіng to enѕure thаt they enjoy beіng а сhild аnd fіnd joy іn everythіng they do’

Stephen Curry isn’t pressuring his children to excel in athletics. In an interview with PEOPLE regarding his collaboration with Rakuten to highlight Black designers during the 2024 NBA season, the 35-year-old Golden State Warriors player reveals that he’s exposing his three kids to a variety of sports at home.

“We’re all about backyard sports right now,” says Curry, who shares daughters Riley, 11, and Ryan, 8, and son Canon, 5, with his wife. “Nothing too structured, especially for Canon, who’s only 5. We have plenty of time. He’s into all kinds of sports. But, you know, he’s got the attention span of a typical 5-year-old.” He emphasizes the importance of building confidence and finding joy in activities rather than feeling pressured to succeed or compete with others. “I just want to ensure that whatever they choose to do, they’re enjoying themselves,” he explains. “Children today face numerous challenges and perceived pressures. So, my goal is to ensure they relish being kids and find happiness in everything they do.”

Curry has previously shared that his eldest daughter, Riley, is showing a keen interest in sports, revealing that her determination is reminiscent of his own. “I’ve introduced them to pretty much every sport,” Curry said in July. “And Riley, she’s really into volleyball at the moment. This year, something clicked for her, and she’s enthusiastic about going to practice, dribbling or passing the ball around the house, and all that sort of stuff. She’s discovered something she’s passionate about and loves to put effort into it.”

In May 2021, Curry’s spouse, Ayesha, discussed her experience of becoming a mother for the first time at a young age. She explained the challenges of balancing her career while raising her children. “I began to realize that I was assuming the responsibilities of a woman at a young age, at a time when others might still be in college or discovering their identity,” she shared during an episode of Skimm’d From The Couch.
