“How Could Michael Jordan Practice for 2 Hours”: Bulls Coach Offended Owner Jerry Reinsdorf Over 14 Minute Rule in 1986

Michael Jordan’s foot injury caused tension within the Chicago Bulls organization. Head coach Stan Albeck was unhappy about limiting Jordan’s playing time, which led to a conflict with Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf. In a game against the Indiana Pacers, Albeck took Jordan out of the game right at the 14-minute mark to prove a point to Reinsdorf.

Although the Bulls won the game, Albeck angered Reinsdorf. Eventually, Reinsdorf decided to lift the minute restriction on Jordan when they realized they had a chance to make the playoffs.

However, Reinsdorf later regretted his decision and believed he should not have let Jordan play that entire season.

The Bulls were also considering tanking to get another high draft pick, but Jordan was not in favor of this approach.

Overall, the minute restriction and the team’s approach to the season created tension between Jordan and the Bulls management. Fortunately, Jordan did not aggravate his injury, but the relationship between him and GM Jerry Krause was never the same.
