Devin Booker’s Phoneix Suns are looking to secure a playoff position as the NBA season draws to an end. During the latter half of the 2023-2024 NBA season, Booker began to wear his signature sneaker with Nike, the Nike Book 1. Though the model’s rollout was criticized by many for the overwhelming amount of PEs that Booker previewed before the sneaker had a global launch, the model has seen solid success from fans and ballers who can appreciate the lifestyle approach infused with performance technology. Booker has again shown up to the Suns game in a PE version of the sneaker, now taking inspiration from the iconic Nike Cortez Forrest Gump wore in the movie.

The timing couldn’t be perfect for Booker to rock this specific PE as Nike is plans to bring back the Nike Cortez Forrest Gump this May, returning for the first time since 2021. Previously, Book has taken inspiration from various classic Nike sneakers and their colorways for PEs, aiding the model’s lifestyle and retro design language that Booker described as a “future classic.”

Booker’s Nike Book 1 Forrest Gump PE is an homage to the iconic sneaker Tom Hanks wore in the beloved film, which was famously sported when Forrest decided to run across the country. The sneaker boasts a mix of leather and canvas twill on the upper, adopting the serrated leather eyestays and vamp directly from the Cortez’s design. It predominantly features crisp white shades, complemented by vibrant red accents on the Swoosh, heel tab, and Booker branding — a nod to the classic Cortez color scheme. The silhouette is grounded by a Zoom Air-cushioned Cushlon midsole, detailed with white rubber and a distinctive blue accent on the heel, mimicking the Cortez’s original style, and finished with a white outsole.

Although Devin Booker’s Nike Book 1 Forrest Gump PE will not be released to the public, its appearance on the court is an exciting preview of what Nike has in store for the Cortez’s return. As stated previously, the Nike Cortez Forrest Gump is making a comeback in May this year.
