Could it happen sooner rather than later?
Los Angeles Lakes basketball will resume this week, and their fight for a top-six seed will commence soon. The Lakers have been playing their best brand of basketball in the last few weeks, and they’ll look to ride that momentum into the second half of the season.
Things are looking up for the purple and gold; however, that may not be true for their head coach, Darvin Ham. According to BetOnline, Ham is tied for second with the shortest odds of the next NBA coach to be fired.
Ham is tied with Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford at +250 odds. Portland Trail Blazer head coach and former NBA champion Chauncey Billups leads the pack with +200 odds.
Although the Lakers have found their groove recently (they’ve won their last three games in a row and six out of their last seven), and we hope that continues, Ham’s job security could be in serious jeopardy. Los Angeles was in a rut for a month and a half. The players had some part in it, but most blame can be pointed to Ham. His rotations, questionable coaching, and lineup decisions massively hurt the Lakers.
Hopefully, that’s all behind them, but they could have been in a better place without Ham. Lakers brass Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka have been advocates for Ham, but another shortcoming this season may push them over the edge.
It’s not a sure-fire thing. However, if Ham cannot get the job done with a healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis, this season could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for Ham.
Lakers fans aren’t Ham believers, but winning could solve all that.
