LeBron James Expected To Lose $50 Million If He Joins Phoenix Suns With Son Bronny James
LeBron James endured a challenging season as the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. With a player option to extend his current deal with the Lakers, LeBron could become an unrestricted free agent if he chooses not to exercise it.
Amidst speculation about his future, the Phoenix Suns have emerged as a potential destination. Reports suggest the Suns might try to draft Bronny James in the first round, hoping to lure LeBron to join his son in Phoenix.
LeBron has publicly expressed his desire to play alongside his son at least once before retiring, and the Suns are looking to capitalize on this opportunity.
Eminent NBA journalist Evan Sidery shared insights into the Suns’ plans, stating, “The Suns are hoping to pursue LeBron James this offseason, which is why Bronny James is a very serious draft option at No. 22 overall to potentially lure him in. Phoenix appears to believe they can convince LeBron to join forces with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal to create a historic superteam.”
However, for LeBron to join the Suns, he would have to make significant financial sacrifices. His player option is worth $51.4 million for next season, but the Suns’ current payroll stands at $209 million, leaving them unable to offer him a lucrative contract. The only viable option would be for LeBron to sign a veteran minimum deal, as the Suns won’t have the mid-level tax exception available.
It remains to be seen how LeBron will approach this offseason and whether he will consider such a move to potentially play alongside his son in Phoenix.
