UPDATE: Chiefs Encounter Three Injuries in Critical Divisional Round Clash Against Bills
Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ hard-fought 27-24 win over the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round, head coach Andy Reid provided insights into the team’s injury situation during his opening statement.
Reid stated, ‘Mike Edwards had a concussion. [Willie Gay Jr.’s] neck — he tweaked his neck, and that was bothering him. Joe Thuney hurt his right pec.’
Edwards suffered a concussion early in the game, leading to Justin Reid and rookie Chamarri Conner stepping up to fill the void. Gay’s neck issue arose on Saturday, impacting his game participation significantly.
Regarding Thuney, Nick Allegretti took over after the chest injury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Thuney is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to assess the extent of the injury.
Notably, according to NFL NextGen Stats, Bills defensive linemen Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones failed to generate pressure on 38 combined pass rushes. This marked Oliver’s first game without a pressure since Week 13 of 2021. Thuney, who faced 10 one-on-one matchups against Oliver during the game, left an impact on the defensive line’s performance.
