Travis Kelce’s Hollywood debut continues with his first major acting role in Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated new FX horror thriller Grotesquerie. According to reports, the NFL star—and global popularity due to his relationship with Taylor Swift—has been cast opposite Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville in the new series, which has only recently begun filming.
Representatives for FX, Murphy, and the producing studio 20th Television declined to comment. Grotesquerie, like all Murphy ventures, is shrouded in mystery, with no cast members confirmed beyond Nash-Betts, Vance, and Manville. The drama is set to launch in the fall.
The series’ premiere is expected to coincide with the next football season, when Kelce returns to the Kansas City Chiefs after his third Super Bowl title in five years. Grotesquerie is Kelce’s follow-up to his acting debut as Saturday Night Live host in March 2023. He also appeared alongside Swift on the NBC late-night sketch comedy show this fall.
Kelce has been in great demand since his high-profile connection with Swift made his name known around the world. He has been clear about his big Hollywood goals and has been expanding since joining with CAA last year.
He previously dabbled in unscripted TV with his reality dating series Catching Kelce, which aired for one season in 2016, and recently signed on to host Amazon’s Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? quiz show.
Travis Kelce is known for his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother and former NFL center Jason Kelce. He also just made his debut as an executive producer on the indie film My Dead Friend Zoe, which premiered at SXSW. He is preparing to make King Pleasure, a documentary about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Murphy is well-known for assisting talented individuals in transitioning into the acting profession. Several years ago, he handed Lady Gaga her first major part in American Horror Story: Hotel. She went on to shine in A Star Is Born, earning an Oscar acting nomination for her performance.
