Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, Joe Burrow issued a warning to Patrick Mahomes and the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback holds a 3-1 record over his bitter rival in Kansas City, previously beating the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game in 2022.

After suffering a torn ligament in his right wrist, Burrow missed the last seven games this past season as the Bengals finished with a 9-8 record. However, with Burrow expecting to return with new reinforcements, the former LSU star believes they will have the upper hand over the Chiefs this season.

‘I think we both work really hard,’ Burrow said, per the Bengals website. ‘They have great players, we have great players. I think we match up pretty well with them.’

‘I think we’re built to beat them. I always appreciate the legendary battles we have.’

The Bengals quarterback praised Mahomes for being ‘out there making plays’ for the Chiefs

While confident in his team being superior, Burrow still praised Mahomes, who now has three Super Bowl MVPs. He also credited both teams’ ability to play defense.

‘Guys are out there always making plays,’ Burrow added. ‘Patrick is always out there making plays. Both teams have big-time defensive lines. It’s a great matchup.’

The Bengals’ acquisitions include former Chiefs offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. Cincinnati also brought in Trent Brown, giving them two of the biggest tackles in the NFL to surround Burrow.

Additionally, the Bengals sent Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans, opening up cap space to acquire Sheldon Rankins for their defense. They also added the safety duo of Von Bell and Geno Stone.

Their last meeting came on New Year’s Eve when the Chiefs bested a Burrow-less Bengals squad, 25-17, on their way to the playoffs. While the schedule is yet to be released, the Bengals will play Kansas City on the road again in 2024.
