Taylor Swift performs with Sabrina Carpenter at Accor Stadium on Feb. 23, 2024, in Sydney, Australia.
Sabrina Carpenter said she was “communicative” with Taylor Swift about participating in a Skims campaign in April.
“As much as people want to believe you’re tuned into every little thing, I’m not because I’m constantly working,” Carpenter told Rolling Stone in an interview that published Monday. “In that scenario, I’ve been very, very communicative with her about that situation, and I just love her so much and support her till the end. So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do.”
Skims, Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand, has been enlisting celebrities and influencers for its campaigns for years. When Carpenter’s Skims campaign debuted, fans wondered if the “Espresso” singer, who opened for Swift on the Eras Tour, ran the idea by Swift, who has had a rocky history with Kardashian dating back to 2016. The latest hit came after Swift released her song “thanK you aIMee,” a song rumored to be about Kardashian.
Carpenter, who, along with tourmates, has become friends with Swift, was complimentary of Swift in her Rolling Stone interview, saying, “I hold her to such a different echelon. I could never compare my life, my career, my trajectory to anything close to what she’s done.”
She said Swift played her some songs from her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” before it was released, like “But Daddy, I Love Him.”
Carpenter added, “She always puts out music at a time where I didn’t realize I needed those songs.”
