Bronny James is reportedly planning to visit only a few NBA teams ahead of next month’s draft, specifically his father LeBron’s Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Bronny is under consideration for the No. 22 overall pick in the draft by the Suns.
“It’s going to come down to the developmental plan and guaranteed money,” Charania said on the Run It Back FanDuel TV show, indicating that Bronny could be selected in the late first or early second round. First-round picks follow a set salary scale for their first four years, while second-round picks have more negotiation flexibility, though with less leverage.
Interestingly, Charania mentioned that Bronny received 10 invitations for pre-draft workouts but will only visit two or three teams, including the Lakers and the Suns. Team representatives did not immediately confirm these visits to DailyMail.com.
Bronny’s single season of college basketball at USC was disappointing, particularly after he suffered cardiac arrest while practicing in July 2023. Although cleared to return, he averaged only 19.4 minutes over 25 games, scoring just 4.8 points per game.
LeBron James has previously expressed a desire to play alongside his son, similar to how Gordie Howe and Ken Griffey Sr. did with their sons in their respective sports. Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports and agent for both LeBron and Bronny, addressed this possibility.
“LeBron said he wanted to play with his son. Bronny can’t do anything about that, and we shouldn’t push back on it. If it aligns where he can play with his dad, great,” Paul told Bleacher Report. “But my focus is on Bronny and the rest of our draft class, on a team plan, investment, and fit and opportunity.”
It remains to be seen how Bronny’s draft journey will unfold, but his visits to the Lakers and Suns indicate significant interest from both teams.
