Michael Jordan shares his story about the power of failure for the first time
Born on February 17, 1963 in New York City (USA), Michael Jordan is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time in the American Professional Basketball League (NBA). The star of the Chicago Bulls team has won many awards and titles in 15 NBA seasons. Last year, he became the first professional athlete named on Forbes magazine’s list of the 400 richest people in America. However, to have this glorious career, he had to go through many failures.
In 1982, Michael Jordan was just a teenager and at that time he wasn’t even the best player on the University of North Carolina basketball team. However, as described in the documentary series about him, The Last Dance (released in 2019), Michael Jordan became an excellent athlete thanks to diligent practice and always knowing how to learn from failure. He once said: “I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career, lost 300 matches… I have failed over and over again in my life. That’s why I’m successful.”
It would be a mistake not to mention the contributions of this basketball star. Over the years, Michael Jordan has spent millions of dollars supporting charities and many different community programs. For example, in 2002, he donated his entire season’s salary to funds supporting victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack. In February 2023, when Michael Jordan turned 60, he contributed $10 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, to support children with serious illnesses. This is considered the largest gift given by an individual in the 43-year history of this fund.
