How Does Chiefs’ Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl Speech Compare To Brother Jason Kelce’s Eagles Speech?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It must run in the family. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce delivered a memorable speech at the team’s Super Bowl parade Wednesday.

“Twenty-one years, y’all know what that means? Everybody here is thinking ‘oh that’s when I can legally get a drink.’ No, 21 years, that’s how long it’s just been turning for my guy Andy Reid,” Kelce said before cursing a bunch.

Of course, Travis got to learn from his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, who gave an all-time speech on the Art Museum steps after the Birds won their first Super Bowl in 2018.

So whose speech was better? We’ll let you decide, but as far as outfits go, it’s Jason by a mile.

Jason Kelce is celebrating little brother Travis Kelce’s big win at Super Bowl 2023.

The brothers are the first siblings in NFL history to faceoff for Super Bowl and Jason, 35, was clearly a good sport after Travis, 33, and his Kansas City Chiefs won 38-35 in the action-packed fourth quarter.

As time was officially called and the Chiefs were declared the winners over the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason gave his brother a big hug, just like he did before kick-off.

Trailing at the end of the first half 14-21, the Chiefs came up with three big offensive plays and three touchdowns in the second, even after Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes got injured just under two minutes before halftime. With just over five minutes left at the end of the fourth quarter, the Eagles scored another touchdown, tying the game 35-35 by successfully pulling off a two-point conversion.

The Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker then kicked a field goal to win the game 38-35.

Travis appeared to say something encouraging in Jason’s ear as he reacted to his brother’s words during their embrace, then the two parted so that the tight end could revel in his celebratory moment, hugging his teammates and cheering loudly for the cameras.

Before the two squared off in the NFL championship on Sunday, the brothers shared a hug in the spirit of healthy competition.

As the National Anthem played before the game, Travis and Jason were both shown on the Jumbotron, with tears streaming down Travis’s face.

“I wrote them both letters and I’m going to take them cookies,” Donna shared. Donna says she did something similar for her sons for Christmas, but this time she’ll be celebrating her sons’ historic NFL accomplishment as the first brothers to face off in a Super Bowl.

The brothers are no strangers to the Super Bowl, and they’ve always been happy for each other’s successes — despite their competitive nature. “The happiest I’ve ever been for him was seeing him win the Super Bowl and seeing how crazy he went on the field,” Travis told Sports Illustrated about his big brother Jason’s Super Bowl win in 2018.

Jason had similar feelings toward Travis’ Super Bowl victory two years later. “Winning it yourself is a very self-gratifying thing … but seeing someone you love and care about accomplish their dreams is potentially more gratifying,” Jason said to SI.

“It’s better in some ways because you’re watching a loved one accomplish their dreams.”

Kelce brothers; Super Bowl; Travis Kelce; Jason Kelce

In case you missed it, there was a big game at Rihanna’s concert on February 12. It was a historic game all around, but one history-making element was that it was the first Super Bowl where brothers played against each other.

Jason and Travis Kelce are NFL players for two different teams; Jason plays for the Philadelphia Eagles and Travis plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. Jason won the 2018 Super Bowl with the Eagles, but in the 2023 sibling Super Bowl match-up, Travis took home the ring.

There was bound to be some rivalry between the two leading up to and during the game, but who are we kidding? They’re siblings, so the Super Bowl likely wasn’t their first run-in with rivalry. In fact, Travis, the younger Kelce, revealed on their podcast “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” that he was pretty jealous of his older brother’s accomplishments growing up.

“You had just been AP, music man, getting hit up by Ivy League schools. ‘I’m going to go walk on and be a freaking superhero.’ Oh, you are. And then you get a scholarship and you made mom and dad’s life that much easier. Then you get drafted. Then you win a Super Bowl. It was just like, Travis (makes noise with his mouth),” the younger Kelce said in a clip shared to TikTok.

Pretty sure most siblings have been in Travis’s shoes. It seems like most families have one child that just knocks it out of the park no matter what they try to do, and the other siblings are left feeling a bit like they’re standing in the shadows. But Jason wanted to make sure Travis knew the immense emotion he felt watching him win the Super Bowl.

“It’s better in some ways because you’re watching a loved one accomplish their dreams,” Jason told his brother.

The conversation was such a great display of sportsmanship and brotherly love that you can’t help but to smile throughout the whole video.

Super Bowl LVII will mark the first time two brothers will face off on football’s biggest stage.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his older sibling Jason, a Philadelphia Eagles center, are both headed to Glendale, Arizona for the February 12 clash.

Jason, 35, had his Super Bowl ticket punched earlier on Sunday when he helped the Eagles beat the visiting San Francisco 49ers, 31-7, in the NFC title game as Philadelphia gained 148 yards on the ground. Then, in the AFC Championship, 33-year-old Travis hauled in seven catches on just eight targets for 78 yards and a crucial touchdown in the 23-20 win over the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.

‘Officially done being a Chiefs fan this season!!’ tweeted Jason after watching Travis win his third AFC title game in four years.

Earlier, Jason announced he would wear a ‘Kansas City sweatshirt’ for ‘the next three hours.’

‘Then that’s it for the rest of the year,’ the laughing Jason told reporters. ‘Win or lose, I’m done being a Chiefs fan in three hours.’

Cleveland natives who went on to star at the University of Cincinnati, Travis and Jason both rank among the best at their respective positions, and each have already won a Super Bowl: The older brother in 2018 and the younger sibling in 2020.

When asked about seeing her sons playing each other in the Super Bowl, their mother Donna recently told the Washington Post she would ‘root for the offense.’

The Kelce brothers are close off the field, and even launched a podcast together last year.

‘We are two brothers from Cleveland Heights who, as kids, had a dream of turning pro, and now we’re here to give our thoughts from inside the game,’ read a statement about the show, titled: ‘New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.’

‘We’ve been waiting for the right moment to do this show, and with 12 Pro Bowls and 2 rings between us, we have a few things to say about the league, the new talent on the field, the upcoming season, and our lives off the field. There will be a few notable names to join us on episodes, but for the most part, this will be a raw dialogue between two brothers who had the chance to live out their childhood football dreams together.’

  • Kelce Brothers Are the First to Face Off in Super Bowl — and Their Mom Says It’s ‘Awesome’

Kelce Brothers Are the First to Face Off in Super Bowl — and Their Mom Says It’s ‘Awesome’

The mother of all football games will be of particular interest to the mother of two of its players.

When the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles square off in Super Bowl LVII, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 33, will take on his older brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, 35, marking the first time brothers will play in the NFL’s marquee game. It also means their mother, Donna Kelce, will be watching intently.

Kelce says she’s looking forward to the matchup between her children, each of whom has already won a Super Bowl.

“I’m a true fan of football. This is going to be so awesome,” she said Feb. 1 on TODAY while sporting a combination Eagles-Chiefs jersey.

“They’ve already got the first win under their belts, so this is just going to be pure joy. We’re going to really enjoy this, have a great time. Obviously, there’s going to be somebody that’s going to go home heartbroken. They won’t have the bragging rights at the Thanksgiving table, but this is going to be an awesome event and I’m really looking forward to it.”

“My mom can’t lose,” Travis told reporters after his team advanced to the Super Bowl.

While that may technically be true, Donna Kelce says she will have a lot of mixed feelings when she’s watching the game.

“I’ll just be so elated,” she said. “Probably some tears. And it’ll just be a very, very emotional moment.”

While one of her kids is destined to feel the thrill of victory, the other is bound to endure the agony of defeat. Kelce knows as a mother there’s not much she can do in such a tough moment for the son who loses the game.

“There isn’t anything I could possibly say,” she said. “Just give him a hug and tell him that I love him, that’s it. That’s all you can do.”

The big question, of course, is who mom will root for. She says she does have one side she favors.

“Absolutely, the offense,” she joked, in a nod to the fact that each son plays on that side of the ball. When pushed, she said there may be a wild card that tilts her rooting interest one way.

“I think that Jason would say I am going to root for the baby of the family, which is Travis. And I keep trying to tell him, ‘No, you’ve given me grandchildren,’ so we’ll leave it at that,” she joked.

While Travis and Jason, who both played in college at the University of Cincinnati, will be the first brothers to play each other in a Super Bowl, the big game has featured brothers on opposing sidelines before. Most notably, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh faced his brother, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, when the two teams met in Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. The Ravens won that game, 34-31. Still, Kelce is surprised no brothers have actually played each other in the Super Bowl yet.

“Well, you knew it was going to happen eventually to somebody because there are so many brothers in the NFL right now that are playing at a very high level,” she said. “It just happened to be that we were the lucky ones first, so I think it’s probably going to be more and more prominent.”

Eagles or Chiefs? Donna Kelce Reveals Who She's Rooting for at Super Bowl 2023 – NBC Connecticut

Travis and Jason have played each other before, as the Chiefs and Eagles have squared off in regular season games before. Playing in the Super Bowl, though, adds a new layer to the sometimes heated relationship these brothers had growing up.

“There were a lot of fights,” Donna said. “Everything was a competition. It was a competition to see who could get to the table first, who could get in the front seat of the car. It’s just typical sibling rivalry. They egged each other on. Travis was always trying to get at his older brother, to (make him) pay attention to him, so there were a lot of fights. That’s the way boys are.”

Kelce is reveling in how her sons have made it this far, thinking back to how they played a multitude of sports growing up, only for them to become two of the most important players on their respective teams.

“It’s just been a pure joy to watch them compete and be able to do it for this many years is just amazing.”

Travis and Jason will battle it out for the ultimate sibling bragging rights when the Chiefs and Eagles duke it out in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER Jason Kelce Is a Little Nervous for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

    Jason Kelce

Jason Kelce may not be a safety on the Philadelphia Eagles, but he’s concerned for brother Travis Kelce’s nonetheless. While Jason is a center, it’s little brother Travis who’s been the center of attention lately amid his rumored romance with Taylor Swift.

Speaking with NBC Sports’ Peter King after work (that would be a nationally televised football game) Sunday evening, Jason shared that while he’s “really, really happy for my brother,” he’s also little worried about the level of scrutiny he’s facing. “This is another level of stardom that typically football players don’t deal with.”

“It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” he said. “On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about, that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’ There’s paparazzi talking about him fueling his car before the game today and I’m like, ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’”

“There’s some, I think, alarms sometimes with how you know, over-in-pursuit people can be,” Jason said. “Overall, he can deal with some of this. As long as it’s not, you know, becoming a threat to his safety and things like that.”

Travis recently purchased a new home in Kansas City for $6 million, reportedly in search of more privacy, turning to a gated community for his next abode. Physically, however, fans have noticed that he can hold his own, even catching some comments for seemingly pushing Swift’s security out of the way to usher her into a car on a recent night out in New York City. Travis, for his part, insisted on his podcast last week, “I didn’t push them. I placed my hand on the gentleman’s back to let him know I was behind him. If I would have pushed him he probably would have turned around and Tased me.”

On the latest episode of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, released Wednesday, Jason ribbed Travis about comments Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid made about Swift’s attendance at the weekend’s game. In a post-game press conference, Jason reported, Reid responded to stats showing Kelce’s explosive performance when Swift was around versus merely great stats without her, “Kelce gets better with time. Taylor can stay around all she wants.”

“What a guy,” Travis said, laughing. “Listen, when you’re getting Big Red’s approval and blessings, you know you’re doing something right.”

  • Jason Kelce admits to suffering from CTE amid social media backlash

Jason Kelce admits to suffering from CTE amid social media backlash

Legendary Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce faced much backlash on social media after suggesting famous racehorse, Secretariat, was on steroids last week.

In particular, a former horse racing reporter did not like Kelce’s comments and threw out a CTE jab.

Just going to put this out there, you know who else makes unsubstantiated claims not backed up by facts. People suffering from CTE. I’ll admit I don’t know whether @JasonKelce suffers from CTE or not, it’s impossible to know…”, Jay Privman wrote on Twitter/X.

Instead of ignoring the troll, Kelce took a moment to educate his fanbase some more.

I mean I can virtually guarantee that I have CTE, all the research would suggest I have some degree of it,” Kelce responded. “I think it is entirely reasonable to assume I have some degree of that pathology.”

Privman tried to back up his snarky CTE comment by saying he wouldn’t wish the illness upon Kelce.

I dont take offense at all. what I’m saying is that it’s completely reasonable to think I have CTE,” Kelce wrote back. “Even though there is no test to see if I currently have CTE, The evidence suggests I probably do. Just like the reality that a lot, if not most of the high level horses of the 70s and 80s were doping because adequate tests were not available. But it really doesn’t accomplish anything to bring this up, I don’t know why I started, Secretariat was still a fantastic horse and legendary specimen.”

CTE, aka chronic traumatic encephalopathy, is a brain disorder caused by repeated head injuries and blows to the head.

Considering Kelce took many hits while blocking for Eagles quarterbacks for 13 years, this is far from shocking news.

According to many research studies, CTE can slowly get worse over time and eventually lead to dementia, so it’s probably for the best that Kelce chose to retire when he did this past March if he’s experiencing symptoms.

During a conversation on social media last week, Jason Kelce admitted he thinks it’s likely he has CTE.

While speaking on the New Heights podcast, the former Eagles center suggested that racehorse Secretariat was on steroids. Afterward, he faced backlash on social media and the topic of CTE was brought up by a former racehorse reporter.

“I mean I can virtually guarantee that I have CTE, all the research would suggest I have some degree of it,” Kelce wrote. “I think it is entirely reasonable to assume I have some degree of that pathology.”“I understand, I dont take offense at all. what I’m saying is that it’s completely reasonable to think I have CTE. CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a degenerative brain disease that has contributed to the death of many former NFL players, is caused by repeated blows to the head. It’s emerged as a premier issue for the league and has impacted generations of football players.

A statement like that from a widely-adored former player will certainly grab the attention of fans, as well as the NFL as it tries to implement rules to avoid head-to-head contact between players.

Jason Kelce believes he could turn LeBron James into the ‘greatest redzone threat in the NFL’

The debate over whether NFL and NBA players could immediately play and succeed in their opposite sports raged during the week, and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce weighed in on Saturday.

ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark first pushed back on NBA guard Austin Rivers’ notion that 30 basketball professionals could play in the NFL. Clark pointed to Draymond Green trying to play in the green and white Michigan State spring football game in 2011 and not handling it well.

However, Kelce responded to Clark’s post saying there was one person he would be able to turn into a “redzone threat.”

“I love this argument and passion from Ryan, and as a football player my mind is screaming hell yea!!!” Kelce wrote on X.  “But, if I was an NFL GM, and it was an option, I’d sign Lebron today and within one offseason he’d be the greatest redzone threat in the NFL.”

The debate started when Rivers said last week he could take 30 NBA players and work them seamlessly into the NFL.

“You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA,” Rivers said.

The former Duke standout replied to pushback from J.J. Watt, saying he only believed some could play in the NFL.

“@JJWatt played 11 years [in the NBA] broski. Might play next year in fact…that would make it 12,” Rivers posted “..like someone I know. Respect your [sic] a football legend holding it down for the bros. My comments weren’t meant to be disrespectful. Only a point to how athletically gifted SOME NBA players are…
