Jason Kelce scorches Messi, MLS: ‘Like Michael Jordan on a golf course.’ Is he right?

Jason Kelce is getting better at this podcasting thing, and his latest scorching hot take about soccer star Lionel Messi was spot on, and maybe a tad bit harsh.

His brother, Travis Kelce, seemed excited to talk about Messi playing last week at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, in the same stadium Kelce plays in with the Chiefs during the NFL season. But then Jason Kelce stomped on his euphoria.

“Seeing Messi play with Miami is not the same as seeing Messi play for Barcelona or at the world stage of the World Cup. Seeing Michael Jordan on a golf course is not like seeing Michael Jordan in a Bulls uniform, alright? I’m just being honest. It’s not,” Jason Kelce said during the latest edition of the “New Heights” podcast released Tuesday. “The best soccer players ever at the World Cup is different than seeing Lionel Messi tearing it up in Kansas City — just saying, it’s different.”

    Ouch.

    Well, Jason, you’re right.

You could’ve said “not like seeing Michael Jordan play for the Wizards” instead of golf, but your point does stand.

Maybe, Messi will lead Argentina to victory in Copa America 2024 this summer and hoist another trophy – in what might be the last international tournament of his career.

    Tune in for that, Jason!

Messi’s run with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer feels like a World Cup victory lap before he ultimately retires.

That’s why soccer fans are clamoring to get a glimpse of him every chance they get, with 72,610 fans seeing Messi score a goal at the Chiefs’ stadium on April 13, setting a record for the most-attended soccer match in the state of Missouri and the third-most attended MLS game in history.

Messi is expected to play in front of another sellout crowd with at least 64,000 fans inside the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium, when Inter Miami visits to play the New England Revolution on Saturday.

“It’s great. It’s electric. He made the MLS fun to watch last year,” Travis Kelce said.

“I’m not saying it’s not good for MLS. I’m saying it’s not as good,” Jason Kelce added. “I’m not saying that, like, it sucks he plays in Miami. That’s awesome for the MLS and I think it’s great for American soccer. I just think it’s nowhere near when he scores a goal for Argentina, and the entire country is erupting in cheers because it means more to Argentina than any other sport on the planet. That’s all I’m saying.”

There’s no disputing Messi’s World Cup run – on the biggest stage in sports – was memorable and legendary.

Not just for how Messi performed, at the height of his game, in what many consider the greatest World Cup final of all time. But because of what it meant for Messi to finally kiss and hoist the World Cup trophy after leading Argentina to a thrilling victory over France in Qatar in December 2022. (A feat, Travis Kelce pointed out to his brother, that occurred just over a year ago.)

The victory cemented Messi’s legacy as one of the sport’s greatest players, putting a cap on one of the greatest careers the sport has ever seen, following heartbreak after heartbreak Messi experienced in an Argentina jersey despite the championship success he sustained with Barcelona.

It’s also unfair to compare Messi’s run with Inter Miami to the World Cup. There’s just no comparison. It kinda goes without saying before Jason Kelce said it.

Jason and Travis Kelce Mania! From Football to Family, Inside the Brothers’ ‘Surreal’ World (Exclusive)

    Jason and Travis Kelce cover

On Monday night, as Philadelphia Eagles fans watched the seconds tick down on their team’s season — and tears welling in star center Jason Kelce’s eyes, signaling an apparent decision to hang up his cleats — it was hard not to sense the end of an era.

“Thirteen seasons. Seven-time Pro Bowler. Six-time All-Pro. One Super Bowl. One No. 1 podcast. And one Sexiest Man Alive title,” ESPN analyst Pat McAfee said the following day on his show, ticking off Jason’s career accomplishments. “Hell of a run….”

But for the Brothers Kelce, “the run” seems nowhere near done, even if Jason has played his last down in the NFL.

Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce: Everything to Know About the NFL Brothers

If last February’s Super Bowl LVII, in whch Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs defeated Jason’s Eagles, touched off the dizzying hype of Kelce Mania, the ensuing months — crammed with their chart-topping New Heights podcast, the record-breaking Amazon Prime documentary Kelce, a slew of endorsements and Travis’ high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift (which helped boost the NFL’s female viewership by more than 2 million) — have only supercharged the fascination.

“It’s been really surreal and a fun ride to be on,” their mother Donna Kelce, 71, tells PEOPLE of her unique vantage of the phenomenon.

“Being able to be with my kids — the experiences, the places, enjoying people I’ve never met before. And I’m very happy they get to enjoy the fruits of their labor, because it’s [been] a tough ride to get where they are now.”

The secret to the Kelces’ success is their easy charm and undeniable authenticity (and their unfailing willingness to goof on each other about what their own personal scented candle would smell like) — and father Ed Kelce, 72, says that effortless brotherly banter is nothing new.

“I’ve been listening to the shtick between these [two] since they were toddlers,” he told PEOPLE last October. “The way they interact on the podcast, that’s the way they’ve always been. And that’s always been fun to watch.”

Jason and Travis grew up Cleveland Heights, Ohio, playing every sport they could and making their fair amount of well-intentioned mischief, like the time a bocce ball found its way through the family car’s windshield. (“Those kinds of things happened constantly when they were growing up,” admits Donna.) But they learned fierce commitment to each other through their parents’ commitment to them.

“My brother didn’t have any children, and my husband’s sister didn’t have any,” explains Donna. “[Jason and Travis] used to yell at me because they didn’t have any cousins to play with on Christmas. We were tight-knit, always trying to help each other as much as we could.”

As Travis told PEOPLE last April of what he learned from his parents, who remained together for the sake of their kids until Travis left to join Jason at the University of Cincinnati: “My entire upbringing [was about learning] to fuel people. . . . I was always taught to be a fountain, not a drain, [to] provide something instead of [taking].”

Recently, Travis’s management team revealed to The New York Times their vision to make the nine-time Pro Bowl tight end as “famous as the Rock,” referencing Dwayne Johnson’s transition from WWE star to A-list actor.

“He really enjoyed Saturday Night Live,” a source tells PEOPLE of Travis’s March 2023 hosting stint. “He had a blast. After he retires, he wants to lean into acting and hosting.”

For now, Travis will continue to hone his charisma on the New Heights podcast, opposite Jason, his worthiest foil. “They’re just as competitive as adults today, always jabbing at each other [about] who’s the best,” says Donna, laughing. “It doesn’t stop. They’re each other’s biggest fan.”

As Taylor Swift takes over Singapore with a bunch of Eras Tour shows, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to reunite with his older brother Jason Kelce and support an important cause.

A woman named Jess Viola shared photos from an event organized to support her cause, Team Rectify, created to raise money for cancer survivors through the Cycle for Survival: New York. The Kelce brothers were on site to support the family.

Led by Meghan R. McDermott, the team was started after her partner, Brendan McDermott, passed away last year after a battle with colorectal cancer. Now, the group raises money for various cancer survivors.

Viola wrote, “i’ll just leave this here. these two are awesome. i know brendan is smiling down right now. some legends wearing #teamrectify hats.” In the photos, Jason and Travis smiled brightly as they posed with a group of people, including some firefighters, and it seemed like they participated in some activities as well.

She added, “if you haven’t donated yet, here’s your sign,” providing the link to their fundraiser on her profile. As of writing, the team has raised $64,102 of their $150,000 goal ahead of the race on March 9.

As the brothers supported a good cause, Travis’ girlfriend Swift continued her concerts in Singapore, which began on March 2 and will continue until March 9. It’s currently unclear if Travis will attend any of the concerts there. He previously flew to Australia to see Swift perform in Sydney, with the couple enjoying a nice date at the zoo as well. After Singapore, Swift will have a much-deserved break from touring throughout the rest of March and April. The tour will pick back up at the start of May, moving through Europe with stops in France, Portugal, Ireland, Italy and more.

Jason Kelce is all smiles after finally beating brother Travis, coach...Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce finally defeated the Kansas City Chiefs for the first time in his NFL career, meaning he now also has a win over younger brother Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid. The Monday Night Football clash ended with the siblings hugging and laughing.

Travis, 34, told Jason, 36, the win was a late birthday present. They both shared a laugh before parting ways after Patrick Mahomes failed to lead a touchdown drive for the victory.

The first time the brothers had a chance to face each other was in 2013, but Travis was sidelined with an injury.

Their first head-to-head came in 2017, followed by 2021 and most notably, the 2023 Super Bowl, all wins for Kelce and the Chiefs.

While new fans of the Kelce brothers are familiar with their professional football careers and their popular podcast, New Heights, they also had just as exciting of a time in college as they played football and lived together at the University of Cincinnati.

After a bunch of their former teammates, roommates and more shared memorable stories of Jason and Travis Kelce‘s time in college with The Athletic, the two took a moment to remember that time of their lives in the newest episode of their podcast.

To say their college adventures sound wild might be an understatement as the two confirmed their friends’ stories, including one in which Jason, as a drunk freshman, ripped the sink out of a teammate’s bathroom at a party.

“That house was so special,” Jason recalled, referring to a house that he shared with Travis and a few other teammates. “The amount of parties and fun we had. I mean, listen, don’t get much better than the times that we were in that hustle.”

Another memorable story the two told was when the team had to practice on St. Patrick’s Day and Jason wasn’t happy about it, so he brought in a bottle of Jameson and drank it on the field, with Travis saying, “Sure enough, we’re getting psyched out by Jason trying to come ‘hydrate’ us and giving us a bottle of Jameson.”

The group of roommates also had a trash can in the middle of their living room that was filled with pizza boxes and more and didn’t have a lid, with the two saying that it “stunk up the entire place.”

But according to Travis, “It was exactly what we needed because we were a bunch of filthy animals.”

Jason began his time at the University of Cincinnati in 2006, while Travis followed close behind in 2008. They smoothly transitioned to the NFL after, with the elder Kelce getting drafted by the Eagles in 2011, and Travis by the Chiefs in 2013.

  • Kelce Brothers’ Net Worth: How Much Money Did Travis and Jason Make From the NFL in Comparison to Jalen Hurts?

Kelce Brothers’ Net Worth: How Much Money Did Travis and Jason Make From the NFL in Comparison to Jalen Hurts?

Travis Kelce and his elder brother Jason have spent more than a decade in the NFL. In that time, the duo has amassed a lot of wealth, the majority of which comes from their earnings in the NFL. But how do the siblings compare to superstar QB Jalen Hurts?

Hurts has only spent a fraction of time in the NFL compared to the Kelce siblings. However, he plays in the lucrative QB position, while the brothers occupy TE and center positions, respectively. So can the duo take on the star quarterback in terms of earnings?

Can Jalen Hurts overtake the Kelce brothers?

After the Super Bowl loss in 2023, the 25-year-old Hurts signed a blockbuster contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. This contract is worth $255 million over 5 years. Further, Lemon Perfect, Gillette, Pepsi, Louisiana Hot Sauce, and Kellogg’s are some brands he has deals with.

On the other hand, Travis Kelce signed a 4-year contract extension in 2020 worth $57.25 million. This secures him an annual salary of $14.3 million until 2026. In addition to his NFL earnings, the TE also makes money from endorsement deals with brands like Nike, Old Spice, and T-Mobile as well as fast food companies McDonald’s and Papa John’s.

His older brother, Jason, was on a one-year contract with the Eagles. The deal amounted to $9 million. Between 2022 and 2023, he had an average annual salary of 14,250,000 dollars, which was the biggest contract of his career. Jason Kelce also had various endorsement deals throughout his career, including Old Spice and 6 Shooter Energy Shots. Even though there’s much disparity between Jason and Travis’s contracts, the duo overtakes Jalen Hurts. And by a significant margin.

As of 2024, brothers Jason and Travis Kelce have a combined net worth of $70 million, while Hurts’ net worth is around $30-35 million. Though Hurts is on a lucrative contract, the time factor plays in favor of the Kelce brothers since their career earnings are much more significant.

    Fruitful decades in the NFL!

The Kelce brothers have spent 24 seasons combined with the NFL, while Jalen only has four. And this disparity is visible in the money these athletes have made over their careers. These earnings are further increased, with multiple income streams, apart from the salary. Incentives and signing bonuses also play a part.

    USA Today via Reuters

Older brother Jason, in his 13 seasons with the Eagles, has made more than $81 million while Travis Kelce in his 11 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs has raked in almost $77 million. On the other hand, Hurts’ career earnings till now are only about $29 million. Will Hurts eventually overtake the brothers in finances over time? But for now, the Kelce brothers have a leg up over the star QB Jalen Hurts.

Philadelphia Eagles powerhouse and six-time Pro Bowl center Jason Kelce isn’t just making waves on the field.

The 36-year-old is steadily expanding his real estate empire across Pennsylvania, New Jersey — and even in Cleveland.

Kelce, the brother of NFL sensation Travis Kelce, who has been nabbing recent headlines of his own for his relationship with Taylor Swift, initially settled in a modest but elegant four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home in Pennsylvania back in 2018.

Purchased for $680,000 after tying the knot with Kylie McDevitt, Kelce found a deal, snagging the property for $120,000 less than its initial listing price.

The Haverford-based property, spread across an acre of land, boasts picturesque views and luxurious amenities, the previous listing notes.

Features include an in-ground pool, a circular driveway and a spacious wraparound deck offering views of the landscaping.

Just two years later, in 2020, Kelce made another move, acquiring the adjacent property spanning 8 acres for a staggering $3.96 million. Not stopping there, Kelce added a third one to his portfolio in September of this year, dropping $1.35 million on yet another adjacent home.

Insiders close to the athlete reveal that Kelce’s master plan involves demolishing the existing structures to create a single sprawling estate, an architectural wonderland decked out with every imaginable luxury and amenity.

However, Kelce’s property ventures extend beyond Pennsylvania’s borders.

Disrupting the Sports Podcasting Market in Just One Year, Jason & Travis Kelce are Set to Further Boost Their Combined $60,000,000 Net Worth With ‘New Heights’

After an Early Playoff Exit Jason Kelce Weighs In if He Will Pay the Chiefs a Visit at the Playoffs for Brother Travis KelceTravis and Jason Kelce are winning the NFL on and off the field as their New Heights Podcast literally reaches new heights just a year after its launch. It is believed that their profitable project will further boost their combined net worth of $60,000,000. Ever since the sports landscape has changed lanes from traditional broadcasting to player podcasts, the Kelces have done a tremendous job in luring all that audiences for themselves.

The New Heights podcast is undeniably a well-thought-out talk show that has consistently been at the top of sports podcasts. However, it caught even more fire when Travis and Jason reached the Super Bowl in the same season as the launch of the podcast. That said, they are certainly doing something different since the market is flooded with a lot of player-hosted podcasts.

New Heights Podcast is Well and Truly Exploding

The popularity of the New Heights podcast saw a massive uptrend even before Super Bowl LVII scenarios became clear. As Joe Pompliano says, it is primarily because of the incredibly talented siblings, paired with the precise hosting strategy and intelligent distribution of content that led to its success.

In just one year, the podcast has seen enormous growth in audience with over 3.5 million followers across all social media platforms. The content shared by the Kelces’ New Heights has been immensely successful in grabbing user attention unlike most of the other player-hosted podcasts.

Furthermore, their new project saw a surprisingly huge sell-out in merchandise sales within the first few weeks of the launch making six figures off of it. The podcast has consistently secured the top 5 spot in sports podcasts which only shows how much the Kelces have been in demand for the new age sports viewers.

Travis and Jason Kelce Set to Ramp Up Their Combined Net Worth of $60,000,000

The New Heights Podcast, as per Forbes, has been so successful that it charges up to 100% higher CPMs than its industry standards. Also, they have worked with some major brands like DraftKings, LinkedIn, and Athletic Greens. Additionally, as per Joe Pompliano, they have also sold substantial inventory for the 2023 season.

Witnessing the growth of their podcast is only going to tremendously boost their combined net worth of $60,000,000 ($40 million for Jason Kelce and $20 million for Travis Kelce). The New Heights Podcast is certainly one of the best business decisions of the Kelces since they are not only occupying a space in the media industry, but are also securing a post-NFL career just like Pat McAfee.

Ed Kelce’s Net Worth: From ‘Blue Collar’ Town to Raising 2 Super Bowl Stars

Ed Kelce's Net Worth: From 'Blue Collar' Town to Raising 2 Super Bowl Stars

When your kids are Travis and Jason Kelce, it’s only natural that people are going to wonder about your family—and that even includes finances. While Ed Kelce’s net worth can’t quite compare to how much his sons make as NFL players, the father of two definitely carved out a successful career and life for himself.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Ed Kelce was the oldest of two children. He grew up in what he described as a “blue collar” neighborhood, revealing on an episode of his sons’ podcast “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” that he had “a lot of fun” in his hometown. Like his sons, he played football in high school—but he ultimately had to drop the sport due to a knee injury. After graduating from high school, Ed attended Ohio State University for about a “quarter and a half” before heading home. While he went on to take a few credits at two other schools, he soon turned his attention to the military, as generations of his family did before him. “Everybody in my family prior to me was in the service,” Ed told his sons on their “New Heights” podcast. “We’re also talking about family [that] lived through World War II, so that’s what everybody did because that was the background.”

Unfortunately, the Army rejected Ed’s application due to the same knee injury that ended his football career. He went on to enlist for the Coast Guard—only for his dreams to be cut short again. During boot camp, Ed learned that he had Crohn’s disease: “I’d never had that before, and I was sick. I went through most of the basic training with some severe gastrointestinal issues,” he said on his sons’ podcast. “They don’t need sick people in the service, they need people who are ready to perform.”

Forced to pivot once again, Ed went on to have a successful career in the steel industry. He even made a habit of bringing his sons to work with him from time to time so that they could experience his job for themselves. “I’d take them there — hard hat, safety glasses, boots, the whole nine yards,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “I’d tell them, ‘You can have a job like your mother’s, or you can have a job like mine.’” Travis and Jason Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, graduated with a Masters in Business Administration and worked in finance until she retired in 2021.

Donna Kelce net worth, Taylor SwiftEd’s love story with Donna began when they both went to the same bar one night. As it turns out, Donna was actually on her way to another date before she decided to grab a drink first. Ed stopped by the bar after work, still covered in dirt from head to toe after working at the steel mill all day. “I’m in coveralls that are covered in cement,” Ed said on an episode of his sons’ podcast. “We started talking and she gave me a ride home.” Donna ended up skipping her original date! Not wanting the night to end, Ed took a quick shower before taking her to another bar. “She came in and I told her ‘hold on, let me change.’”

Donna and Ed went on to tie the knot in the late ’70s. About five years after their wedding, the pair welcomed their oldest son, Jason, followed by Travis two years later. They went on to raise their boys in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, before sending their sons off to the University of Cincinnati. Jason and Travis would each go on to play college football before they were both drafted by the NFL in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

After both of their sons graduated from college, Ed and Donna went their separate ways, filing for divorce from each other after about 25 years of marriage. The former couple opened up about their divorce in the 2023 documentary, Kelce. In the doc, the proud parents talked about their decision to stay together as long as they did for the sake of their kids. As Ed explained in the film, “If we had split as we probably both would have preferred, that would have been a nightmare with the logistics, getting kids where they had to be and providing all the support.”

Ultimately, we’d say it all worked out for the best: Donna and Ed raised two NFL superstars, both of whom have made it to the Super Bowl twice. They had to get their hard work ethic from somewhere, which also begs the question: what is Ed Kelce’s net worth? For everything we know about how much the father of two is worth today, keep on reading ahead.

What is Ed Kelce’s net worth?

While Ed Kelce’s net worth is not confirmed, Players Wiki lists his net worth as $100,000 as of 2023. Considering that he’s raised two Super Bowl stars, however, it’s possible that Ed Kelce’s net worth is even higher today.

Ed Kelce's net worth, Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce As for his sons, Travis and Jason Kelce’s contracts make them among the highest-paid NFL players in the league. Travis Kelce’s net worth is currently around $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The Kansas City Chief tight end renewed his contract with the team in 2022 for $57.25 million, landing him an annual salary of $14.3 million until 2026. The football star also has brand deals with Nike, Old Spice, T-Mobile and Dick’s Sporting Goods, McDonalds and Papa Johns, among others.

Compared to his brother, Travis has joked about how he doesn’t get paid enough, telling Vanity Fair, “My managers and agents love to tell me how underpaid I am. Any time I talk about wanting more money, they’re just like, ‘Why don’t you go to the Chiefs and ask them?”

Meanwhile, Travis’ brother Jason Kelce‘s net worth is estimated to be slightly higher at $40 million. The Philadelphia Eagles player is considered to be the highest-paid center in the NFL. Jason’s contract was renewed for one year in 2023 at $14.25 million, which includes a base salary of $1,165,000 and a $10,335,000 signing bonus. The athlete’s fortune is also made up of lucrative endorsement deals and real estate investments, including a property in his hometown of Cleveland and a nine-acre farm in Pennsylvania.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ed relocated from Cleveland to Philadelphia to be closer to Jason, his wife, Kylie, and their three children. He currently lives a mile away from the farm where Jason and Kylie are raising their kids, and he regularly visits to help with growing and picking produce from their garden, per the Los Angeles Times.

Jason and Travis Kelce are just like us in that they also can’t seem to turn away from an episode of Law & Order.

The brothers opened up about their love of the show during the Wednesday, Nov. 29, episode of their podcast New Heights, and ironically enough, Travis’ new girlfriend Taylor Swift is also a huge fan of the series–even going as far as naming one of her cats after Mariska Hargitay‘s character Olivia Benson.

“We watched enough Law & Order [growing up] that I think we got addicted to anything crime-related,” Jason shared.

His younger brother didn’t deny the claims. Instead, the 34-year-old agreed with the Philadelphia Eagles center’s recollection. “Honestly, if Law & Order is on, I’ll just sit there for like five minutes and if I catch on, I am just there for an hour,” he added.

“If I ever just hear ‘Dun-dun,’” Jason replied, leading the two to chuckle. “I just sit down and ‘hear we go.’”

“Oh nice, I caught it from the beginning, so I can get all the details,” Travis shared.

The 36-year-old father of three interjected, “Were you original Law & Order or SVU?”

“I was whichever one Ed Kelce was watching,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end quipped, noting their father didn’t discriminate against any one of the spinoffs, “I think it was pretty much all of them.”

“I think they’re both good; SVU is just more diabolical. Original Law & Order was just like murder,” Jason said, shaking his head. “SVU, there’s something about SVU crimes that you’re just like, ‘this guy’s a bad dude.’”

Well, it’s probably safe to say SVU was one thing that the Kelce family bonded over with Swift.
